When you step into the Anchor Motel, you are revisiting a piece of Americana. Sure, this motel has been updated — probably many times over the years — but the crushed pink rocks and pink cement of the walls lets you know that this Motel was something from the 20th century. Right off the bat, if you’re looking for a free breakfast, indoor pool kind of place, this will never be that. But if you want to relive a holiday from the 1960s, definitely consider the Anchor. To begin with, the staff is just about the absolute nicest folks I have ever met. They really couldn’t have been nicer. Small requests(extra towel please!) filled with a cheery smile. They supplied us with an on-street parking badge, and offered us beach passes. If you have a large family, this could save you a good chunk of money. The rooms are not huge and, like beach hotels since time immemorial, have a tendency to have sand on the floor, but it was mostly very clean. Flat screen TV, refrigerator and microwave. Combined with the location — 3 blocks from the boardwalk right at Casino Pier, one block from a 24-hour 7 – 11(and next to that Bobber’s breakfast place — ,) it was just about perfect for a Seaside Heights Motel. There is a small pool. Nice place to meet the other folks staying there. It’s not heated, so expect the main topic of conversation to be how cold the water is. But clean and nice to have, especially if you have kids. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony staring out at the random street drama. The A/C units were in good repair and did not smell moldy. All four of my group are sensitive to mold and not one of us was made sick by the air. That’s a HUGE plus in my book. Things you must take into consideration before booking, They may be of concern to you: The motel is as clean as it can be, given that no one is getting on the floor scrubbing. Sheets, walls, and bathroom are all clean. There is mold in the corners of the shower that someone would have to bend down to see. I hope they do. The bathroom is small and cheesy, but it is new. Our shower curtain was held on with a curtain rod, just laid on the shower stall. It fell regularly. Two people in my group had a hard time navigating the toilet, which had almost no leg room between it and the wall. The bathroom and room really needed some wall hooks to hang suits and towels. Thank heaven for the TV, which was our drying rod. The motel is next to the police station and fire station. We heard a fire alarm when we arrived and two days later as we left, but did not have to deal with one late at night. If there was an alarm, you *would* wake up. There is no sleeping through that. It’s loud and it’s right over the motel. In a perfect world, the balcony would be a little bigger. But I’d stay there again, at the very least for the amazing kindness and hospitality of the motel staff and the convenient location for the price.

I’d say closer to a 3.5. It’s a typical shore motel. If it weren’t a shore place it would get a 2. That means the beds were fine. Slightly firm is a good thing. Ask any chiropractor. Pillows come 2 to a bed. You’re gonna have to fold it over if you’re sharing a bed. The room had a t.v. and microwave. The staff is friendly and tries to help how they can. I asked if they had a lost and found and they searched behind the desk and immediately called housekeeping to check. Beach passes are lent. $ 50 if you lose them which they tell you up front. Parking is kinda first come first served and then leave it if you want a spot out front. Not enough towels? Just ask at the desk for more. Dead bugs in room? Only on floor in a way that suggests extermination efforts. The real problem is the bathroom. The toilet is close to the wall. So if you sit, your knees might hit the wall in front of you. I’m pretty sure most guys probably stand off to the side to go. Its close to the beach and the police and volunteer fire department are it’s neighbors. They aren’t noisy and kept the partiers too afraid to get too bad outside on balconies or in the street. If you can roll with it, this is a decent place. If you want the standard of certain hotel chains, than go there. This is basic and good enough for sleeping or taking a quick shower in between activities.

We stayed there just one night on the way to another destination. The Anchor is an old motel, 1950s I’d say, and nothing fancy. The location is good; close to the Seaside Heights boardwalk, but far back enough to be quiet. In fact, the Police Station adjoins the property. Parking is tight, so the operator loaned us a special street pass at no cost, that allowed us to park anywhere. Street parking is more than ample. The room and all paperwork was ready as agreed thru when we arrived. The rooms are small, but nicely equipped with a flat screen TV and mmi-fridge. The pool is very small but refreshing and nicely maintained. The operator is very friendly and helpful and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. At checkout time, we weren’t hurried off. I believe that, for the price, the Anchor Motel is a good value.

Overall, the hotel was clean, comfortable, and close to the beach/boardwalk.(About 2 – 3 blocks walk.) We only stayed one night, but the staff were friendly and even let us check in very early(around 12 instead of 3), when we had only hoped to be able to leave our car and come back. The room was not shabby, but could stand some small improvements, such as perhaps a new mattress. For $ 150, you don’t get much luxury, but the price is competitive with similar hotels in the area, so they are not being unfair.
