Thursday night and I just missed the happy hour which runs from 3−6pm. After reading the reviews of this place I decided to give it a try. After all it looks like the place is full of customers so that’s a Good sign. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a side of sweet potato fries, the sandwich is a little pricey for around $ 12 and some change, if I was able to find parking in Main Street I would’ve made it to the happy hour where the sandwich only costs $ 6 and some change but oh well… My sandwich came along with the side of sweet potato fries, the condiments selection in the table doesn’t have ketchup only the 2 kinds of barbecue sauce(sweet and spicy), vinegar and mustard so we have to request for some ketchup. I took a bite of my pulled pork sandwich and its missing something… It lacks that barbecue flavor that I was looking for. Even the barbecue sauce on the table did not help much. The sweet potato fries were good and just seasoned right. Maybe when I come back I’ll order something else and give it another shot… I guess it’s just the pulled pork but I love the service here and the bathrooms are also clean so for that it’s a 4 star for me.

For drinking, I can only speak to the beer list, as I’ve never been here with anybody who has drunk anything else. Beer list is uniformly excellent in my experience: no matter what you like, there will be something for you — often something you have never had before — ask the bartender — these guys(have always been male the ten or so times I’ve been here) are sommeliers of craft brews and their pairings. And the current board is on the website, so if you wish you can see what is on tap and research ahead of time. I dunno about some other peoples’ comments on the food — chacon a son gut and all that. Then again, I vastly prefer NC style BBQ to either TX or KC(NC and Memphis as styles roughly tie for me). Also, this is definitely an interpretation — if you are looking for down home authenticity I’m sure you can do much better — maybe some of the other places that better gruntle the reviewers who don’t like it here. And it’s not cheap and portions are modest in size. Menu is online — check before committing. Pulled pork — the meat isn’t the absolute best I’ve ever had, but it’s more than serviceable(3.5 stars), the bun is very good, and you have more than enough materials to make the sauce what you want. Andouille is a different take from hardcore Cajun(e.g. I’m not sure what it’s smoked over but I doubt it’s pecan), but if you take it on its own merits rather than expecting something from Lafayette I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Chili is good if you read the ingredients and take it on its own merits rather than expecting something in different style. Favorite sides for me are smoked asparagus, garlic ginger roasted carrot, and green bean, bacon & onion ragout Other people I’ve brought all seem to love the fried pickles, although they are meh for me. I do have to agree with the complainers that cornbread is unremarkable.

My friends and I were craving BBQ so we decided to stop by Beachwood BBQ to get our fix. Overall, I’d say it was pretty hyped up with the BBQ being dry and tasting bland and if it wasn’t for the sauce tray they have at the end of the table I don’t know what I’d do. Like many of the other reviews, this place has a pretty good selection of beer on tap at average prices($ 6 a pint). The BBQ was $ 21 for the pick 2 brisket and pulled pork with sweet potato fries and tangy Cole slaw. Verdict: 3⁄5 for the great service, great beer selection and cleanliness. I really wanted to like this place but failed to see where the hype is all about here considering the lack of flavor on the pulled pork and brisket. Sides were decent, except the cornbread we got was super dry. My hunt for a decent BBQ joint in Orange County continues.

Got the smoked albacore app, brisket sandwich and butter lettuce salad. Awesome! The best part though? Their sweet potato fries! It’s hard to find good ones and they knocked it out of the park.

Overrated. I’m simply posting a picture of the comment card I left at the table. You can also see from the picture of the smothered fries that they are definitely lacking.

Took a Sunday drive to Long beach gave this place a try. Good service and pet friendly even had a water bowl for my dog. Also have plenty of beers on tap. Worth the trip to LBC.

This is my goto place for a quick(or not so quick) pint and grub after work. Their taps are always rotating and the menu is pretty steady, every so often there is something new to try. But really the high light is the ale, all craft brews and the house beer’s, well they are top notch!

My buddies love this place because of the beer selection. And they told me that this place has great BBQ. Their beer was good, but I came in hungry and usually when people are hungry the food tastes better. And honestly the food was just ok, and it was really dry, for food that’s supposed to be juicy. Their prices are a bit on the high side, but the portions are ok but a bit on the smaller side for the choose 2⁄3. In the end, the BBQ was pretty lacking but the beer was great. If you’re looking for a good BBQ joint, I’d probably look elsewhere. But if you’re looking for a place to get great beers and have appetizers this is a great place.

I Love this place!!! I tried the oatmonster stout A+ very chocolatey but not to heavy. The thrillseeker ipa A+ as well very fruity aroma. Killgore american style stout, heavier than the oat but very good. The beef brisket sandwich was amazing slow cooked and cubed to perfection side of sweet potatoe fries with a nice selection of house sauses. This visit sold me as this will b my goto spot in lb or seal b from now on.

Just thought I would update and say nothing has changed. If anything, my time away from Orange County has made me much pickier about where I spend my time and money when I come back — and so frequently, it is here. The staff is great, the beer is great, the food is great. It’s so small, and yet somehow we never need to wait for a coveted spot at the bar. Part of me wants this place all for myself, but as a Unilocaler, I MUST Unilocal!Beachwood is perhaps the best establishment in the County of Orange — and I have been nearly everywhere. Take the Pepsi challenge. I dare you. This is the spot — and when I say the spot, I mean THE spot.

Super, super reasonable prices on awesome beers! I think the food was good, but not mind-blowing. But overall, I was satisfied, this place had a great vibe, and I’d go back, if only for the great beers and the chips and dip. Chips and Dip: Amazing. Get it. It’s simple, and the dipping sauce they give you is fantastic. Thank goodness they give you a lot of it. I scooped a bunch of it and put it on my plate to put it on everything else I was eating. Baked Mac & Cheese: The flavors were on point. It was creamy, comforting and the pasta was perfectly cooked — not mushy or soggy(that’s no small feat!). The cheese sauce was velvety, not gritty in the slightest(also no small feat). But honestly, I think the panko topping wasn’t necessary. Maybe this is just personal preference, I’m not a huge panko fan, but it gave it a bit of a Shake-and-Bake kind of texture to me. That’s my only nitpick, but it was a well-executed mac & cheese in all other aspects. BBQ Chicken Nachos: They give you a good portion, and they don’t skimp on the guacamole. I think there may have actually been a bit too much of the toppings, but that’s not really a complaint, though, is it? Brisket: Decent. Not bad, but not great. It wasn’t meltingly tender. I still needed a knife to cut through it – which isn’t in an of itself a huge problem, but when you’ve had brisket so tender that you could cut it with the side of a spoon, that’s the standard you hold brisket to. Sorry, but the unctuous, fatty moist brisket from Maple Block in Culver City still has my heart. As far as sides go, the cornbread was too crumbly and powdery. I like my cornbread with a tad more moisture to hold it together so it doesn’t disintegrate at the touch of my hand. The kale & barely salad was good, well balanced and well-dressed. The blue cheese grits, to me, didn’t taste incredibly blue cheese-y.

I’m sad I’ll have to minus one star for the sides. I’ve tried both types of coleslaw(tangy and sweet) and coming from a girl that loves her coleslaw, they are both not good. The blue cheese grits are ok, they sound better than they are. The potato salad is ok. The greens are less than ok. The fries are typical. The corn is good and has that grilled taste that reminds one of summer. Ribs and corn for me!

Their chicken nachos are to die for! I have been here a couple of times to try the pulled port, chicken, salad and chicken nachos. Both experiences went well and I will return because of it. Parking is always horrendous since it is on main street. There is often a paper clipboard you write your name on when it is a bit busy. The turn over time with dining customers are pretty quick and we have never needed to wait over 30mins thus far. The owner is very kind and the staff is pretty on top of customer service. It is a hole in the wall, mini pub like place. I am not a big fan of beers, ales or alcohol so I really cannot describe much about what they have. However, everything that we have ordered in the past with exception to the hush puppies are pretty good. My all time favorite is the bbq chicken nachos. Keep in mind it is an appetizer so it does not hold much of a portion but for those with small appetites, this can easily become an entrée.

Yum! This is a 2nd location of the Beachwood brewery. They don’t have all their beers available here, but there are several on tap, as well as several guest beers. They don’t do flights, but will give you a taste of anything you want. I really liked their IPA and pale ale. It’s rather small, so seating can be difficult when it gets crowded. We narrowly beat the dinner rush and were able to snag two seats at the bar. We weren’t too terribly hungry, but I couldn’t pass up trying some of their BBQ. We opted to split a beef BBQ platter, which came with two sides. For the sides, we opted for potato salad and the blue cheese grits. They have a variety of BBQ sauces on each table that you can add to the meat. All the sauces were tasty, but I liked the vinegar and spicy ones the best, especially mixed together. The beef could’ve had more flavor, but the sauces fixed that up nicely. The potato salad was wonderful and very tasty. The blue cheese grits were amazing. I’ve never liked grits before, but these were so crazy good. Be sure to get them! They were super smooth and almost had more a mashed potato consistency. The service wasn’t exactly stellar. But we were sitting at the bar and the one bartender was definitely overwhelmed with a large crowd. All in all, this is a cute spot right by the beach with tasty eats and great beers.

My first experience with Beachwood was their Long Beach location and I wasn’t impressed. Here however, the local quaint feel really won me over. It’s the same food menu as LB, and though they don’t have AS many beers on tap as the other location, they have enough to give anyone a good time. I’ve tried a bunch of their menu items from the brisket sandwich, fish and chips, fried pickles, pickled shrimp on fried green tomatoes, etc. Everything has not disappointed thought at times their brisket is more dry and not as moist as some moments of having it. Being that there are not many BBQ places around, this place would be one of the better options.

I stopped in here after going to the Long Beach Grand Prix. I have heard some good things about this place. So, I wanted to give it a try. It is located on Main Street in downtown Seal Beach. The restaurant and bar are very small. I ordered the Tater Tot Casserole and the Smokehouse Burger. The Tater Tot Casserole at $ 8 was a little pricey for what you get and it was just basic tater tots topped with smoked cheese curds accompanied by duck gravy. It was kind of a play on poutine. The tater tots were pretty good. The smoked, melted cheese curds made the dish. The duck gravy was nothing special. The Smokehouse Burger was a little disappointing. The burger patty did have a nice smokey flavor. But, it was dry and lifeless. The rest of the burger was uneventful with the bun being a little dry and nothing else about the burger was memorable. It was priced at $ 12.
