Stopped here after a long drive and lo and behold a Gyro from a fast food restaurant that was pretty good I will rate this four stars because service was pretty good there was no wait in line and the Gyro was pretty top-notch I did have a slight problem with the spinach and cheese pockets as they were great tasting but small and expensive for the amount they give you

This is oasis fast food… it was decent fast food and higher than average fast food prices… I got a Gyros, Fries, and a Coke and it was all good and what you would expect from a Chicago Gyros place. The seating the in Oasis is clean as were the bathrooms. All in all, if I find myself in the oasis and I am hungry I would eat here…

So I’ve dropped my husband off at the airport, it’s 5:20 on a Thursday, and the southbound Tristate is jammed. As usual. I’m hungry, so I figure why not kill a little time and fill my tummy at the Oasis? The Kronos café fit the bill. I got a veggie pita(hummus and Greek salad on a pita) and Kronos fries(fries with lemon and oregano) for right about $ 5 with those crazy Cook County taxes. The flavors were really good. Creamy hummus, awesome dressing, nice chunks of cucumber and tomato. And putting lemon and oregano on fries is near genius. My only problem? Hugely messy. There was SO much dressing on the pita that I made a puddle on the table. And the pita was no longer fluffy; it was chewy. If I find myself at an Oasis in need of a meal again I will surely consider Kronos, but maybe next time I’ll just get the salad, hummus and pita separately so the dressing will stay where it’s put… :)

The little lady had to use a rest room and while I was waiting I thought I would wander around the rest stop. What a find. The Gyro was first class.

FYI this is a food vendor in the oasis. Most times it is dead out here so don’t be surprised to see employees lounging or on the phone. The cook however is just waiting to jump on the burners and whip up something. Kronos is a Greek name and subsequently also the largest producer of gyros in the world, so if you know this little factoid you’ll remember or always think of char Greek food when you see the name. A few memorable signs from Kronos, of course are pictures of their gyros, mention of roasted turkey legs and the newly added sweet potato fries. The turkey legs are mounted on a rotating rotisserie, kept warm all the day long and never seem to grasp my attention. Not like; seeing turkey legs freshly grilled at festivals, just not the same. Never yet brought myself to have a gyro, but have had the fries and sweet potato fries. I wish Kronos was open late night; it would be a better option than the typical fast food giant on the other side of the oasis. Speaking of the giant, when grabbing food to go from Kronos, I’ll head over here to use their ketchup spigot. So long as I have a navigator with me, I can get a tiny tub of ketchup for dipping my tasty, sweet potato fries. What I dig most about Kronos is that there is never a wait other than the time it takes to prepare the food and it’s fresh char food. Not overly greasy.
