Updating my review. Its been almost two years and I haven’t had a bad experience in quite some time. Great place to go in a pinch and friendly service, they are likely going to have what you need for weekend projects.

Merchandise is low quality and hard to return once used. The only thing I liked was the full line of miniwax stains, the aluminum cooking pans, pyrex., and the small hardware. Good for replacing screens
Avoid all paint supplies (only has lousy sheetrock compound, one shot), plastic mop pails cracked,
OK for household cleaning supplies selection and shelf liners. Rubbermaid makes a pail that doesnt crack which I found elsewhere. Owners dont care about finding better quality.. They dont have stainless painting knives, good decorator hardware. Home depot on line and the larger stores and amazon has much better brands for a painting job. The expensive non stainless hyde brand knives rusted or the thin film quickly peeled. At least local Ace hardware stores would order the better stuff if you needed it. Tuckahoe has better paint supplies and a range Disappointing in that the owner wont tell you about the pitfalls of his goods.

I have incredibly mixed views on this store. It’s greatest plus is that they are local and convenient, although parking can be difficult. They also cover a fairly wide assortment of products and therefore, will often have what you need. On the minus side they are pretty expensive. However, I’ll typically pay for the convenience and prefer to shop a local small business, if I can.
The biggest problem and the sole basis for giving the store two stars is the guy working downstairs, George, I think. I have dealt with him a number of times. Some words that come to mind: obnoxious, curt, slightly pugnacious and hostile. I suppose I could handle all of that if he was knowledgeable, but that’s not always the case. He literally sold me the wrong product three times. Although I tried to have a discussion with him to ensure I was getting the right one, the «obnoxious» and «curt» part of his personality made that difficult. I can’t tell you I won’t ever shop there again, but I’ll have to be on my guard with that guy because aside from the bad attitude, his advice can’t be trusted.

Very rude. When I was there they were watching tv. Not very helpful. Downstairs the man was very unfriendly. Also not much of a selection. Total lack of items.

My plumber required some parts that he was missing, and I really did not want to hike to Home Depot, that always turns out to take 1.25 hrs. My other consideration was to help out our local «mom and pop» business. On my first visit this afternoon, the owner is extremely helpful, and quickly ran down with me to get the two parts I needed. When I returned 3 mins after they closed for my second trip, the owner was extremely nice and ran down again to help me. The owner should look into hiring folks that are more interested in helping out clients. I recall the last time I walked in, I ran back out because no one was interested in helping me.
They may be expensive, and the owner was himself surprised at the labeled price of one of the items I picked up, but for a couple of things, I’d rather not spend time running to Home Depot.
They are open 10am-​2pm on Sundays.

The guys that work here are very nice and I like to support local businesses, so I try to go here when I can. Like any other independent hardware store, they cannot complete with the big guys. Items are double and triple the price that they are at Home Depot, the inventory is very thin and the return policy is «NO!». While kind, the service is not nearly good enough to make up for the other shortcomings.

My dear Scarsdale friends, we have choices and this place is just simply not mine any longer.
I have to say I agree with the previous reviews: they really think they are doing you a favor by helping you!!! Seriously? With their prices, they should be providing you white glove service.

TOO MUCH TROUBLE and NOT open Sundays
I don’t know how this store stays in business. Not only is it overly expensive, it’s hard to get attention from the staff because they’re always glued to the TV watching the game.
Once a kid acted like he was doing me a favor when I asked about paint.
Another time the young man waiting on me mixed my paint wrong and I couldn’t take it back. How about training some of these employees?
Then an old man refused to let me buy an extra drop cloth because I «didn’t need it.» Have you ever heard of a store employee stopping a customer from buying anything??? I went else where to get what I wanted.
This hardware store is just too much trouble. I won’t be back.

Yes, these guys are EXPENSIVE but when one considers that they are in the heart of Scarsdale (that rent can’t be cheap) and they are actually open 7 days per week AND they are very knowledgeable about how to go about your DIY home projects and everything else (saving $$$ on calling a repair guy if you can do it yourself) these guys are worth every penny. I didn’t realize the store was actually two floors (the basement has everything!) Biggest plus: saving yourself a trip to Home Depot on the weekend. Yikes! These benefits offset the extra $ you spend here. My only complaint is the guy downstairs in the basement has a standoffish attitude.

This is a small neighborhood hardward shop that carries almost everything we ever need. What I really like about them is the advice and service you get. You may
pay a bit more vs. a mass chain store, but they will talk you through any do-​it-​yourself home project. They really know their stuff and are happy to talk about it.

Scarsdale Hardware is simply the best place to go to for any house project, even if you don’t know where to begin. They are generous with their advice, referrals and have a large variety of items. Glenn and his staff are knowledgeable, professional and have worked hard for many years to keep our community supplied with sound advice and a helpful inventory of supplies. Regulars and newcomers are equally welcomed! There is also a parking lot located behind the store.

I had a very good experience here shopping for a Weber Genesis grill. The employees were friendly and knowledgeable. I wanted to buy the grill from these guys but they couldn’t deliver it 25 miles away (I don’t blame them). Unfortunately my car was too small to fit the assembled grill inside.

both reviews here are accurate. It is way over priced but if you need a screw or some obscure part they are very helpful. Also, they are not open Sundays which kills me

Great service. Great selection. Go here before going to Home Depot.
