You’ll never find a smaller place that’s more fun. or as busy with such a good crowd. When you’re in there you feel like you’re on a pirate ship the way it’s decorated/built. Some people need to stay away from the jukebox. The main bartenders on FRIDAY night are all awesome(Don’t go Saturday’s). There is this one Bartender who looks like a lumberjack and stands in the corner /gives you dirty looks. Their popcorn is literally the best on earth. Def have gotten trashed and fallen asleep on the stage outside. Everyone made sure I got home OK. Love the portly.

If you are in the West Sayville area and in the mood for an iced cold beer and a great sandwich… This is your place. This is one business that does it right, they don’t try to do everything. They do two things only and do it perfectly. Beer and sandwiches! Nothing more and I love that. The crowd age range is a melting pot of 25 – 55. No punks, no drunks just a real clean, cute, cozy local bar that you feel comfortable walking into. Now i’m in the mood for a Porty special and a cold Corona. Cheers

This place is what a pub or tavern should look like and be. It’s definitely got ambiance, character and gives off an inviting vibe. It’s small, quaint and cozy. The food is solid. Sandwiches are typical bar fare, although well made with quality ingredients. The potato salad was delicious. Great beer selection. During the day it’s best to sit at the bar and give the bartender your order — chances are him and the cook in the back are the only ones working. This place is worth a try.

One of the best roast beef sandwiches, I’ve ever had! On the way to Montauk Point for the day, we needed a to-go order and I remembered driving past The Portly Villager. ‘Yelp-ed’ the TPV, and didn’t find it in Sayville’s– Top 40 eateries… what! Undetered, I sent L.C. in to make the choice, and pick-up our lunch. When minutes run by alone, the mind wanders. I jumped out to make some final road trip preps before our drive. Their numbered menu is huge, and varied. If you can’t make a choice, you’re not hungry. On the road, L.C. unwraps the foil to reveal #1 on the menu– the TPV. Stacked four-fingers high on a lightly-dressed, warm pair of slices of marble rye, the TPV was a lunch made-to-order. The roast beef was cooked and sliced like you’d make it. The horseradish dressing was mild in taste, and didn’t overwhelm, with the rye, warmed like you would forget to do. All that… and a bag of chips(and a ¼ slice of pickle). Wished we’d returned, to relax in their easy on the eyes colonial environs. What seems a block past the main drag of Sayville, is where to find the TPV. Enjoy!

If you’re looking for a low key, yet comfortable bar, with ICECOLD beer in frosted mugs & bartenders who know their product AND their regulars… Come here. It’s the type of place that you walk into already planning your next 30 visits.

I went here for a birthday party on a Saturday night and I must say that I was impressed. The beer selection is fantastic, the décor is cool, and the food is sufficient. Bartenders are courteous and well-dressed. Plenty of TV’s but not a sports bar in the traditional sense. Had a caesar wrap with potato salad that was pretty good(it hit the spot). Not crowded, but not dead either. Good place to grab a drink or hang out with friends.

I have been here a couple of times for Sayville Soccer fundraisers. Although I didn’t have pub food, just drinks, they were tasty. I appreciate how the owner offers the place to help the local teams. Kudos to the Portly Villager!

It’s a revolutionary war theme, I feel like I’m plotting against the loyalists for the battle of Long Island in this place. A few good seasonal beers on tap, very reasonably priced, a real local place. If you’re not from Oakdale or Sayville make sure you go with someone from there or else you’ll be shunned from conversation with any girls. Very small and hard to get around inside even when it’s not that packed.

My preferred bar in the area! Always friendly bartenders, great deals on drinks, and a really nice small cozy environment. Sometimes it can get packed, but if you’re looking for a bar to just hang out at and relax with your friends, this is it. No blasting music and obnoxious people, just groups of friends having some drinks. Just my type of place!

Pub Great little pub right on Montauk highway. After a few hours of hanging with Captain Morgan over at Kingston’s, we decided it was still too nice out to go home… so we just tooled along slowly until we saw this place with the cute name and in we rolled. The interior is set up in basically a big square complete with emergency escape back door(you know, in case your wife comes in when you are with your hoochie mama) and there are plenty of pub-ish decorations around the place. Overall friendly help and we settled in and decided to do a little more damage to our already overtaxed livers. Bartender was great and the locals at the bar were friendly, which is usually the case when you have a hottie along… prices were average and the bathrooms were clean– so what more could you ask for? We didn’t eat so cannot comment on that but would definitely hit the place again. Parking sides and rear.

Cozy is the perfect adjective. An energetic and fun Saturday night crowd. The bartenders gave off a great hometown vibe and they had pickle-backs! If I recall, there was dancing and decent music. I wish this place was closer to me, but then again, I’m not sure I need to add to my «they know my name here» list.

been there once but excellent selection of draft beers(about 10) and large sandwich menu. I had the Portly Villager, roast beef with all the fixin’s and it was very good. my wife had a sliced chicken with bacon, dressing and it was huge and very good, too. they have about 6 flat-screen TVs around the room. seats 12 – 18 at the bar and about a dozen tables. nicely decorated, clean and cozy. I’ll go back.

Absolutely the best bar I’ve been to on Long Island(not that I’ve been to a ton, but at least a few). I’ve been there twice, both times on Saturday night. Perfect amount of people, not crowded and not empty. The sandwiches are very good. The bartenders are nice. Told us that they recently added a whole bunch of taps, and that is a huge reason I’m giving 5 stars. It’s a pretty nice selection of(mostly local) microbrews. The place is small, but has a sort of lodge-y feel to it. The fire place was going both times I was there. Sports on the tv and some surprisingly good music playing.

The Village Porter is cozy, no-frills tavern in an open A-Framed room. A nice bar and fireplace. They have Smithwicks, Guinness, Blue Moons, and Blue Point on draft.. . pair it with some Powers for a nice boilermaker to get going.. . a lot of folks like to catch an early buzz on Thanksgiving morn’, when they open at 9am. A good spot.

Great beer and liquor bar, good heros and sports. Forget the fruiity drinks girls, no blender drinks made on site. The Portly Villager hero is delicious; warm roast beef with havarti cheese and horseradish. Will definitely return!
