**This review is regarding beer only** Rams Head Tavern is located in an old mill, which is super cool! The location is awesome and their patio seating is really unique! My fiancé and I stopped by for a cold beer and saw that they offered a flight of their five signature brews($ 6), so obviously, we opted for the flight. I really hate to say it, but the beer was just… bad. Like, really bad. Idk if I have been spoiled lately because it is summer and we have been popping into a lot of good breweries, but this was not good. I liked the setup for the flights, a place mat that described each beer. The service was good. I just have a hard time giving this place more than 2 stars because the beer was terrible. Anytime I see a flight offered, I usually snag it because that tells me the place is pretty proud of their beer products and give you an option to test them all out. The only one I really enjoyed was the IPA, which I find is kind of hard to mess up. There were some items on the menu I would be interested in trying, probably won’t make it back to check them out. Sorry, Rams Head.

American food. I had a burger. It was a decent burger. The bacon was pretty great, but the over all burger was just okay. The food was a bit pricey for some things, but very cheap for others… A bit weird. Staff was very nice, though, so that’s good. Ambiance? Meh, just normal bar/pub/restaurant kinda thing, a bit loud at times.

I will preface this review by stating the service and drinks were fine. The food however… left much to be desired. Two apps, wings and nachos were ordered. Wings were small and had all the moisture fried right out of them. The nachos were haphazardly tossed together with barley any cheese. The chicken breasts pieces were so rubbery they were close to inedible. Rams Head bills itself as an upscale dining experience. Clearly, we did not experience this.

I’m not sure why we keep giving this place a chance. The patio has a nice vibe but the service is horrendous. Today I had guests visiting and the weather was just right so we decided to take them to Rams Head and sit on the patio. When we arrived, the rude host informed us that they didn’t have room for 6. When we questioned him further, he begrudgingly told us «ok maybe 20 minutes». He then told us that they were about to have live music and that it would be really loud. It was like he was trying to encourage us to go somewhere else. We decided to wait it out and half an hour later we had a table. All said and done we got through the meal with only a bowl of soup that was never brought out, which was actually not bad for this place. Long story short, every time we go here it’s the same story. Unreliable service, unreliable food quality, piss poor management.

Eh, way overpriced for the food and selection. $ 12 cheese steak with fries. I guess people go there for the beer and music. Took forever to get served.

I haven’t been here in years but stopped by with my wife for Happy Hour yesterday. We relaxed out on their patio in the woods overlooking the old mill on a nice fair weather day. Louisa was our server-friendly and helpful… before we ordered an appetizer, she gave us the low-down on the free stuff. Prices for drinks marked down and it was free wings day for Happy Hour(starts at 5)-other free selections during the week like loaded potatoes. 2 draft beers, 2 glasses of wine, and 16 wings for less than $ 14. I’not a buffalo wings fan, but that’s Ok because the Old Bay wings were exceptional! Crispy and tasty and… free!

Had a great experience there this weekend. Our server Chloe rocked the house! We sat on their cute outdoor patio, had drinks, and an amazing salmon dinner. Food took a little longer than usual, and the manager discounted our check. There was a fun band playing downstairs. The bartenders were great. Will definitely come back if I’m in the area.

I am saddened to give what was once my all time favorite place a one-star rating. I love my favorite server, Ben, but I am more than disappointed in those in his leadership chain. There is an area in the basement that is often used by large crowds. I needed the area for my very own farewell gathering and called weeks in advance to ask if I could reserve it and was told they didn’t reserve ANY spaces in the basement. So I showed up early to claim it at 2:45pm. They officially open at 3:00pm by the way. My server came up to me around 4:30 to say that the manager had forgotten that she reserved that area for people at 5:30. Suddenly that area was now up for reservations! After plenty of back and forth with my server, I gave up. I waited for the group to show up before leaving the section because I already amassed a large group of people. At 6:45 the other group showed up. My group was still going strong but we had to move from an area I was ALREADY sitting into another area because the section I tried to reserve was magically not reservable and reservable at the same time! My crowd left the bar at 10:30 by the way and the other crowd that took my spot left at 8:30. I wonder which one really paid the most!!! Anyways, I’ve been going to this place since 2012 and am an official member of their World Beer Club(See my name on your wall!). Not anymore. I am moving away for a short time but when I come back I’m never going back to this Ram’s Head or any Ram’s Head for that matter. My only regret is paying so much for all of the beers on the World Beer Club. Way to treat loyal customers. Never going back now.

Nice little place in Savage. Upstairs is the relatively upscale dining room with a nice deck. Downstairs is the more grungy(still nice) basement that has more high table seating and a good sized bar. Upstairs: Is a very nice restaurant/sit down dining room. You get a full menu with a variety of options. So far I’ve tried the Mac’n’cheese, chicken sandwich and the turkey holiday dinner. The mac’n’cheese is made with white cheddar Both are pretty good and the fries are similar to the seasoned fries you get at popeyes. The portions are a good size, you’ll definitely get a good meal. Every time I’ve been here service has been on point. Downstairs: There is a small stage for bands, a pool table and an area for darts. It’s a little more dark and my type of drinking bar. They brew in house as well as carry a variety of beers. The menu is still the same I believe and the food I’ve had has been good. This place is definitely versatile, good for couples, good for drinking buddies and good for sports. There are plenty TV’s downstairs to watch your favorite team(it is a Ravens bar though). Definition of a nice local watering hole.

The food was just okay. Wouldn’t come back. We are here at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon and it’s empty. I got fish tacos and my husband ordered the Mac Burger. My tacos were cold and very soggy and bland. The lemons that came with it were dried up. My husband ordered a burger medium rare. His cane out dried up and well done. The Mac and cheese on top was hard. Barely edible

This place is one of the highlights of Savage Mill ~ definitely a go-to place for happy hour and hanging out when I was working in the area. They have free food during happy hour and they have a good beer selection. It’s also good for lunch! Most recently came for a late dinner~ tried the Old Dominion Cherry Blossom lager which was refreshing and slightly sweet but not overpowering cherry flavor. We also got the crabby tots(tater tots with crab and covered in cheese) and the pretzel dough brats, pretty standard bar food.

We were a party of 30+. Attentive and friendly staff. My dynamite burger was off the chain. And the rams head IPA was deli. Shout out to Mike our waiter, he was on point all night. He handled our entire party by himself.

Cool place for happy hour. During warm weather, I love to be out on the large patio. Historic area that’s very charming. The food is okay, nothing too exceptional in my opinion. During happy hour, you can get tickets for free food. The day I went, it was loaded potatoes. Not amazing, but hey, it’s free! Nice beer choices on tap. You could go for the sampler as well to try a bit of several beers. Come here for a nice time with friends in a unique area. Don’t expect amazing food, but it’s not bad either. Unrelated, before or afterwards, check out the large antique store in the same building. Lots of cool(and creepy) stuff in there!

In a very charming old building that used to process cotton, you’ll find the most perfect plate of duck. Cooked to perfection, it’s soft and reddish inside with a wine sauce that really showcases the best flavors of the duck. I wasn’t a fan of the collard greens; very bland, but that could be a personal preference. The crab dip appetizer was above average, and the calamari was on par for a quality restaurant. The peanut butter pie was amazing and generously portioned. Smooth, soft, airy and rich — but not too rich, which is tricky to do with peanut butter. Ask for their drought root beer, it’s masterfully crafted to be all the flavors you love and none of the bitter bite you don’t. A great place for a date, friends, and large groups.

Love their happy hour which features free appetizers on week nights & $ 3 drafts! I’ve found this is also a very suitable place to bring my parents & friends to dine when they’re in town. I highly recommend the outdoor patio in the summer! Some faves: Copperhead ale(similar to yuengling) Crab tots Hey Mac, Pacific Rim, & Breakfast Bomb are awesome out of the box burgers!

I used to like this place a lot. They do have my favorite Firestone Double Jack IPA. However, the service couldn’t be worse. The wings are good but I needed napkins and no waitress was around to be found. Also beer was empty(insert sad face here) and still no server. Would have been a better experience if I sat at the bar where you can demand someone to look at you and actually give you what you need. Felt like I was in time out stuck at a table with no service. On a positive note, when I went in this summer we took our dogs and the waitress who came out to the patio to accommodate us. Yes she got our burgers wrong but she got them fixed, and we were able to enjoy one more beer while we waited for our remade burgers. I give them an A for dog friendly and beer and food but E for service. Id give 2 ½ stars if I could.

I absolutely love the restaurant section. They have a wonderful black bean burger for vegetarians and also black bean soup. Both are amazing! The atmosphere is wonderful. It is nice knowing that you are eating in an old Mill. The service was amazing and the prices can’t be beat. I would certainly recommend this to a nice little place to have a nice meal. Definitely a good place to take you girlfriends and have a good evening out with the gals!

This is a pretty solid lunch staple for me and my friend. Have been frequently and the service and food are always consistently good. I’m eating meat-free for the last several months and they have some really nice options for this too, which can be difficult to find at some places. My two favorites: the Don Cornycado(a nice avocado/veg salad) and the Quinoa salad. Price is about average($ 20 – 30 for two at lunch, and my lunch usually includes a bottle of Sam). Bonus: beautiful outdoor balcony patio overlooking brook and woods, and proximity to a little French bakery(so basically don’t waste your time on desert here!). If you’re in the area this is definitely a stop you won’t regret.

My husband and I wanted to give the place one more chance after the whole hidden camera bust. We went there for lunch(not busy) The food was, ehhhh. Not impressive in any way. Tasted like they opened a box and put food in the microwave. The service was even worse than the food. The entire meal we had no idea who our server was. We had to keep flagging down staff as they walked by. They almost lost a customer because of the scandal, now they have def lost two customers from the bad food and bad service.

This place has fallen wayside since the criminal investigation of the owner. Despite the news, I tried the lunch there. I order the«Don Cornycado» salad:($ 14.00) Mixed lettuce with blackened shrimp, scallops, roasted corn salsa, sliced avocado and jalapeño cilantro vinaigrette. Food isn’t fresh. Scallops were the flash frozen bagged ones from the discount section of the supermarket; they use plain Old Bay seasoning, The avocado was far too unripe– about as enjoyable as a raw potato; and the ‘fire-roasted’ corn salsa was straight from a can of corn. Not flame roasted at all. *disappointing* I wouldn’t recommend it for a meal; Maybe for a happy hour.

Atmosphere on the patio is excellent in the evening with a nice, quiet, wooded view(in contrast to the lively basement which often has live music). Due to the distance from kitchen and bar, expect service to take longer on the patio. Food and beer are routinely decent. Skip the club sandwich and opt for a burger or another sandwich instead. Too much bread and mayo on the club.

I went to Ramshead and happened to look up their business online in the Washington post. Low and behold as my server was asking my order I saw that they had been in legal trouble for voyeurism. I asked my server what this was about and they told me to search«rams head savage filming women»(do it yourself if you’d like). It ends up the owner of this franchise set up cameras in the women’s bathroom to film women as they use the restroom. My server«told me don’t worry he is no longer here, but just so you know he still gets money for every purchase made here» My family and I promptly left as we do not want to support this sort of establishment.

My department’s first visit back since the whole situation with the owner recording women in the bathroom thing happened. You can imagine the conversations we were having with an all male department. You can’t blame the employees here for what happened here, they are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. I personally love this particular location of Ram’s Head Tavern. Food is always delicious and the service is top notch. If you get a chance ask for outdoor seating they have a huge area outside with a bunch of tables. You can’t beat it on a nice day. I have tried several different things on the menu from the Rt.178 cheesesteak to the crab cake, you really can’t go wrong. Definitely would have been 5 stars if it wasn’t for the piece of garbage owner. He should be ashamed of himself for almost costing hard working people their livelihood. Regardless, I still recommend giving this place a try!

I was surprised by the variety of good pub grub here. Our waitress was so happy to share her recommendations which worked for me, ’cause I had never been before! The food’s pretty solid bar fare with some items being a nice step up from the usual. Fried pickle chips? On point. Tuna Tartare? Super good(if you can handle the loads of wasabi!) as a shared item or a light lunch. The pretzel dough brats were okay; I think I’ll try something else next time. The sandwiches and salads look absolutely great; regrettably, I only had room to try one: the chicken and waffles, which was sooo good. These great food options, local beer selections, and great service are why I’ll be back soon.

The service for our giant, unexpected group was awesome. Justin took care of everyone all evening. Our drinks were always quickly replaced, the right food came to the right people, and our checks were easily split at the end of the night. The food left a bit to be desired. The appetizers were pretty awesome – the spicy mac and cheese balls and the crab dip were great. But my Cuban sandwich was kind of dry and bland, and the fries were cold. Overall I’d say this place is sufficient for a meal, and pretty good for a large group. Maybe it’s my fault the food was below par since I chose such an oddball sandwich. Secret genitalia videotaping aside, I’m not eager to return but I didn’t leave angry or hungry, and our server really did do a great job handling such a large(20+). You can do a lot worse.

I went here today for lunch with a mentor of mine. The atmosphere is pretty nice, during brunch time(10 – 2) there is an ensemble that plays, which is pretty cool. I ordered hi mac, which was a burger with mac and cheese. It was a bit dry, but it comes with fries(which is really good!) so it balances out. There wasn’t too much Mac and cheese in there however. The portion is huge, so be aware. For dessert, I had funnel cake fries, which is a MUSTHAVE. Very innovative, delicious idea! It’s crispier and fuller in taste compared to the normal funnel cake and regular potato fries. Mmm delish!!! Downside is that food takes a long time to come out and our server was pretty new so she kept forgetting about us. I would’ve appreciated more professionalism. Other servers seemed good, so I won’t count that against the entire restaurant. Overall, pretty good, I would return.

Big crazy place, with multiple entrances and several levels. Somehow, we all got to the same place and sat down. While I waited, they kept me in Diet Coke. Very good salad. The salad I ate(at another place) the day before was very sad and what stood out was how crisp and tasty this salad was – I really liked it. There were several salads on the menu that looked good, but the one I had was the Church Circle Cobb. The one with pears looked great as well, and my friend had the Mediterranean something which he said was excellent. The parking sucks – this restaurant is at the old Savage Mill which has been repurposed. There was a short walk from the upper lot to the entrance and some confusion on where to go. But certainly not an insurmountable problem.

After a Valentine’s Day couple’s retreat at Terrapin Adventures, we were given 10% off coupons here for a meal so my husband and I decided to check it out prior to heading out of Savage Mill. Since it was Valentine’s day of course the fancy dining floor was booked up so we went to the floor that was more casual. My husband ordered the Round Up burger and I got the Baja bird. Both came with fries. Both items were very tasty and satisfying. With our discount we paid only $ 22! Perfect ending to our trip!
