Smithsonian or De Young quality collections, rotating. They opened with Ruth Asawa. They have had Imogen Cunningham, and so many others. Gregory Colbert is in the restaurant building, permanent on loan. Lots of local people, as well as world class, from Jay Graham to Arno Minniken. Epic. This isn’t just the gallery, but the restaurant, the spa, and all the rooms. But the gallery itself, by the mercantile, is the hub. The below is taken from the website:

Artwork in Historic Guest Rooms & Suites
In our Historic guest rooms and suites, you’ll find nationally and internationally recognized contemporary artists working primarily in black and white photography. In each guest lodging, one or two artists are highlighted. Each has worked with Edition 1 Studios to publish an artist monograph to accompany his or her work in the rooms. These monographs comprise the Cavallo Point Portfolio, a collection of 20 books featuring all participating guestroom photographers.

Artwork in Contemporary Guest Rooms & Suites
The Contemporary guest rooms and suites also include a number of black and white photographs, but focus on a collection of large-​scale color photography. Both the architecture and dramatic landscape provide a perfect setting for more conceptually-​based artwork. One artist is featured in each of these guest accommodations.

Artwork in Common Areas
Guests and visitors are invited to enjoy the fine art collection at Cavallo Point, which includes Imogen Cunningham, Gregory Colbert, Phil Borges and others. In addition, our common areas showcase historic photographs of Fort Baker. Also featured are prized botanical specimens collected by naturalist John Muir, which have been photographed by Stephen Joseph and documented by Bonnie Gisel.

Beautiful, custom-​bound books with works from select artists are available at the Mercantile.

The Gallery at Cavallo Point is charmingly small, yet packs an artistic punch. Currently there are four local photographers-​three black and white, one color. All have above average imagery, which speaks well for the gallery director.
The staff is friendly and not pushy. Coupled with the Mercantile Store, it is a hidden gem of a place to shop, or collect fine art.
