Four stars for Walmart? Yes, and here’s why: the international food section. I needed masa flour, mole mix and corn husks to deal with Thanksgiving turkey leftovers and totally struck out at Price Chopper on these ethnic standards. Wally World had them all, with a nice selection of each category. Or, if you are interested in Asian, there’s three kinds of coconut milk and Shin Lamyan – which as any Asian teen will tell you is a hallmark of a place that knows its clientele. If you want to make jokes about people shopping in their underwear or the lack of parking near the entrance because shoppers would rather wait in their cars for a space to open up than walk, Walmart is an easy target. But the prices are good, I’ve occasionally scored bargains on quality sweatpants on the clearance racks – and, mole sauce!

If you want to get my attention with a «loss leader» as soon as I walk in the door, you might want to make it actually the best price in the area for that item. In this case, it was bananas, in my face, at both the grocery and non-grocery entrances. Trouble is, the price was a bit more than nearby Hannaford charges. I know, because I was there 15 minutes earlier, and I understand Price Chopper meets Hannaford’s price for bananas. The same holds true for the boxes of brand-name cereals to the left and right of the bananas. The store itself is well stocked and fairly clean, which is much better than I’ve seen at other nearby Walmarts(e.g., Queensbury), and yes, some prices are indeed better here than anyplace else local. But it does seem a bit dreary, with antiseptic lighting, and a number of employees just standing around chatting. If your grocery employees want to learn how a grocery area is done right, look at Market Baskets in New England. Everyone is always busy. Checkout wasn’t that great either. They have 22 checkouts — only 5 were in use, all backed up. The self-serve checkouts were busy, and they at least had someone staffed for them. The express checkout, which had the longest line of any, was a bit unusual. The guy manning it was friendly and efficient, but he went through some very unusual vocal variety as he was talking to the customers. Maybe he was just bored, but it isn’t my business to question it anyway. But it would not surprise me if some of the customers felt a little awkward because of it.

I can’t stand going here. I feel physically unclean as I walk the aisles cluttered with Chinese made garbage. If not for the fact that I’d have to drive over to the other side of town to get the type of auto supplies I need, I wouldn’t even come in here. In addition, several years ago I had a terrible experience with a cashier AND the customer service desk. I wrote a letter to the company and all I got in was a rubber-stamped letter saying how much they value my business, blah, blah, blah. Wal-Mart truly doesn’t give a rats behind about it’s customers. They just want your cash. I once had an issue at Stewart’s, the store manager called me personally and sent me a $ 10 gift card. THAT is how you keep your customers happy!

They have recently started remodeling this Walmart, and its a good thing, it was starting to look a little ragged around the edges…

I loved shopping at this Walmart, before they added the SuperCenter. For me, it’s lost a bit of product variety because of it. That said, I still enjoy shopping here but the merchandise and shelf maintenance was lacking a bit today. I appreciated the good customer service I received from two men in electronics. There was a young lady I encountered in another aisle and she was complaining about being made to work in this area that was not her«normal» area. My reply to her was see it for the gift that it is. In this economy, no one should be complaining about having a job! She needs to be enlightened that her role is to make the shopping experience more enjoyable — as in true customer service.

I understand that people have bad days. I also understand that when it comes down to the end of your shift, employees get frustrated because they want to leave. But, being a veteran of the customer service industry I look at my work ethic as I do my Sports and athletic ethic. 100% until the end of the clock. So, when i go into the store where an employee does not leave there bad attitude at the door when they come to work, it bothers me. September 3rd, 2011 Register 25, South Carolina. She needs to be spoken to and warned about of her quick abrasive attitude. Thank you. PS. She’s probably a really nice girl that had a bad day. She just needs it not let it effect other people.

Its Wally World and its 24 hours! They have all walks of life their and its never a dull moment of people watching while shopping. I go when I am super bored and want to look at blue rays or I need medicine that tends to be cheaper than at Walgreens. The outfits what some people leave the house wearing could be reason alone to go as well.

When this place first opened a few years ago, I shopped here every day(that I was in town). Oh we’re out of Milk, lets go to WalMart, nothing to do at 2AM and passing through on the way to VT Mountains, let’s stop at WalMart and pickup a few items. Now I realize I dropped so much money here and the prices aren’t the lowest! Although it’s huge and open 24hrs, it’s not the best place to shop. WalMart and the idiots shopping there just make you think that. Target and BJ’s Wholesale club offer the same items for much less. Also Nick P. is right, the lighting is off in the store. Everyone looks fat, pale, and overweight. I recently bought a lot of house hold items here, only to find them cheaper at BJ’s. I returned them and saved half my money. WalMart gets it’s consumers with their visual marketing aids. Such tactics and trickery aimed at the lower income families. Not saying I didn’t fall for them but I’ve learned my lesson. Also what’s up with the seniors and overweight staff? Are they intentionally hiring staff who are willing to accept their low wages and no insurance. I partially watched the WalMart documentary. It’s no wonder they can’t get one of these in NYC.

I have a love-hate relationship with Wal-Mart. I love the fact that they usually do have the best price for many everyday products. While I wouldn’t buy my clothing here, I have no qualms about coming here to buy essentials such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc. But wow. Going to Wal-Mart is usually a major culture shock, considering what I’m used to living in NYC. You want to know why America has such a problem with obesity? All it takes is a visit to any Wal-Mart. Every aisle in the food section is basically full of unhealthy processed foods which most Americans will gladly buy because they’re cheap, quick and easy to prepare. It’s sad to see so many overweight parents teaching their overweight kids that this is how to shop for food. Back to this Wal-Mart in particular. They do have a limited number of organic foods. I bought a can of Amy’s organic soup(of which they had only two varieties). I believe they also sell organic milk. They also have a fruit and vegetable section where the stuff seemed pretty fresh. I wish Wal-Mart would use their market power to make more organic foods available to regular people.

I don’t know. Everytime I go to Wal-Mart I wonder if it’s worth it. Yeah, things cost less, but what of our soul? What if Wal-Mart has a tight grip on the heart of a beloved consumer and it’s closing it’s hand in a warm, lulling fist of mediocrity. Does buying this shit, usually shipped in from all over the world, usually of low quality, makes us feel wealthy? There are lots of families at the Mart. Sometimes they looks like they just can’t afford to buy this Mart-cart full of crap. They bleakly obey consumption compulsion. They go home and produce some trash and watch TV. The florescent Mart-Llights make everybody look really fat and dumpy and it makes their skin bad, and it look like they have terrible fashion sense. I’ve seen myself in a Mart-mirror that costs $ 3.97 and I’m not immune. I dont care what I look like when I go to the Mart. Screw you Marty-McWall-a-lot. I don’t feel this way at Target.
