Kayaks weren’t an option for our dog the day after they were for someone else?! Get your policies together. My dog loves paddle boarding & swimming and she wears a life jacket… not sure what you guys are worried about. Update: lake local board shop down the street is totally accommodating to dogs for both paddleboard & kayaks and they were super friendly and helpful!

My friend and I went to the Kayak Shak today in hopes of renting paddle boards. We had been looking forward to this all week! I brought along my dog(a 38 lb well trained australian mix) who loves paddle boarding and swimming with me. We went into the Shak with my dog, filled out paperwork, and went back to our car to put some things away. As we were heading down the beach to the paddle boards, an emplyee approached us and said, «So what’s up with the dog?» He informed us that my dog couldn’t go paddle boarding with us, but that he’d let us go kayaking if we wanted. We decided against it. As we were getting our refund in the Shak, the same employee was having a conversation with a woman who taught the SUP yoga class by the window. He was rude and condescending towards her; it was uncomfortable to overhear. I’m not upset about not being able to bring my dog paddle boarding — I understand that they don’t want to scratch up their boards(although I’ve taken Molly several times in Lake George and this has never happened). That employee was either having a bad day or has impaired people skills. The way he approached us and spoke with us was unprofessional and unfriendly, and the way he spoke with the yoga instructor left a bad taste in my mouth. My friend and I won’t be coming back or recommending this place to anyone. If you have a dog and want to rent, go up to Kayak Lake George in Bolton Landing — it’s worth the extra drive.

As its name implies it is a multicolored shack on Fish Creek that rents kayaks. $ 20 for a ½ day rental or $ 35 for a full day, which includes a single boat, paddle, and personal floatation device. The people who work here are chill and laid back. There are lessons, but I’ve never taken one. It is not top of the line kayaks, but its great for someone like me who enjoys kayaking, but does not do it often enough to justify purchasing her own(not to mention the whole storage issue). They also have canoes and row boats for rent and tandem kayaks if you’re bringing a kid. . There is also a marina at the location for the big boats. When you leave the marina and go right you go down stream which is pretty quiet and full of nature. If you go left you will run into some boat traffic.(I like to brave the boat traffic so that my paddle back to the marina is easier than paddling up stream after 3 hours of kayaking). They are also on facebook.
