Came here for lunch on Saturday afternoon. We waited over 10 minutes before anyone even came to our table. If it was busy I would understand, but it was relatively slow. Ended up waiting over 45 minutes and our server didn’t even come by to ask if we needed anything or to apologize about the delay. Don’t waste your time or money here. If you want food Mediterranean food go across the street to La Med.

Average food and average service. They ran out of a key ingredient in a salad, but didn’t inform us or offer a substitute until we asked. The lamb bacon was fatty. And the calamari was flavorless. The only saving grace was the kenefe dessert. The baclava was burnt.

OUTSTANDINGTAKEONTURKISHFARE Thoroughly enjoyed the brussel sprouts and, separately, grilled calamari to start; followed by mounds of ribs and, separately, a subtle and extravagantly good beef dumpling dish that, to me, was best of show. All topped off by baclava with homemade vanilla ice cream. Familiar food on a delightful tilt, fresh and light and good. Service was attentive and quick. Was too late in evening for Turkish coffee, but as good a reason as any to return.

A great neighborhood gem! The server was lovely and recommended the best wine I’ve had in ages(maybe ever!) Ooooo that cauliflower dish is to die for!!! Simply the best dish we had by far! Calamari was excellent as well. Lamb bacon was an interesting try, although the plating was super weird/ugly and the hummus was average. They need to rework this dish and it could be great. Lamb kebabs were excellently cooked. All in all a beautiful food experience!

I’ve been going to Troya since they opened and absolutely love the food. The kitchen does an exceptional job with the food and presentation. If only the wait staff were up to par with the kitchen. My experience last night had me dismayed and disappointed. Our server pretty much treated us with benign neglect all evening. I’m not sure what was going on, but it seemed as if she and the other employees were just going through the motions. What was very disconcerting was how they began stacking chairs on top of the tables before we finished dinner! Clearly, this sends the message that the staff is ready to go home, so finish up and move on. Overall, the experience was unfortunate but I can see where the staff was taking their cues… from the manager. Although he greeted us and led us to the table, the rest of the evening he was more concerned with ‘closing the books’ than ensuring the patrons were enjoying the evening. Starting with the manager, the entire staff need updated training on customer service. Sadly, Troya will not be one of my Top 5 choices on Fillmore.

Don’t go for lunch. While their dinner is usually pretty good, I just came from eating lunch there. I truly feel ripped off. We ordered the three spread appetizer, and it was obviously old. Like they didn’t even try to warm it up and they were both obviously stale, both the hummus and the pita.(like when you leave a bag of chips out and try one the next day) It’s $ 16 for this item. The the lunch itself, Chicken Kebab. Burnt and mostly just rice and greens. For $ 14 that seems ridiculous, 3 measly bites of chicken(emphasis on bites). Then it was all greens and rice. Two of the cheapest ingredients out there. Overall the service was bad, the food worse, and the price the worst of all. My last time going here.

Taste:6/10 Ambience: 6⁄10 Service: 4⁄10 Price: 6⁄10 Value for money: 3⁄10 Went for Lunch on a Saturday. Waitress sat us immediately at a table but unfortunately it was dirty and un-bussed. We had the honey braised lamb wrap with tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles, feta & yogurt. It was ok but not as flavorful as lamb wraps I’ve experienced at other places nearby. It was also very wet and dripped constantly in my plate. It gave the the sense that it was pre-made because it was also not very warm either. Our second selection was the superior farms lamb kebab with pistachio, tahini yogurt, basmati rice & greens, Again it was decent but with all those ingredients it was also lacking flavor and tenderness I’m accustom to. In fact, if the edges of the lamb weren’t charred it wouldn’t have had any flavor at all. The char overstated the meat.

Noisy, expensive local spot that makes a nice pureed lentil soup. I’m not a fan of their grilled veggies or dry chicken kabob. Pleasant servers here.

I have seen their food truck all over the place so I was excited to try the brick and mortar location on Fillmore. Everything we had was super tasty and we loved the brussel sprouts, flat bread, and chicken kebab. The baklava was some of the best I have had — up there with Kokkari’s. I will definitely be back as the food and experience was solid!

This review is for their food truck. Their lamb is amazing and is good enough to carry a 4-star review, even though their falafel bowl was quite a letdown(maybe 2.5 stars). So be careful what you order. Kinda makes me want to check out their restaurant and pig out on lamb. So tasty. Braised Lamb Wrap: One of the best wraps I’ve had in San Francisco. It appears that the lamb is slow braised to make it tender, but then grilled/griddled to give it a bit of crunch. Seriously better than that mass produced gyro meat others tend to sling. The wrap bread was fresh and tender(albeit a bit too bready by the ends). Loved the spicy/creamy sauce. Just the right amount of veggies without being overwhelming. But wow, I still keep thinking about that lamb meat though, so good! Falafel Bowl: A bit disappointing. The outer edges of the falafel were a bit soft instead of that just out of the fryer crunch. Also, the inner texture/taste wasn’t that memorable. And it was a bit annoying that there was no rice in the falafel bowl(unlike the chicken or lamb bowls), so it felt like a really unsatisfying salad.

The location is good, but foods are not good! If you order the steak, then it is a waste! Calamari order is very tiny but not cheap. Waitress had no smile! It’s not a good place to eat!

Very cozy and intimate place — a hidden gem. They start you off with homemade crackers while you wait. This is my second time here. Both visits I had the same dishes: chicken kabob with warm bean salad and spicy dip and olive oil poached salmon with turnip and potato purée. I was equally happy with both visits — they are pretty consistent here. Both dishes were great both times. The chicken and salmon were cooked perfectly — moist and flavorful. I have to say the spicy dip/sauce that comes with the chicken dish is so good! Ask for extra sauce!!! It was so good that I enhanced my salmon dish with it — gave it a good kick.

I went to Troya for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The place was half full so I was initially suspect because every other good breakfast place had a long line outside the restaurant. I sat down at the bar and ordered freshly squeezed Orange juice and a mushroom omelette. For someone who grew up in India always drinking juice freshly squeezed and rarely having drunk out of the bottle, I have high expectations of freshly squeezed OJ and this place met it. It was cold and freshly squeezed and delicious. The mushroom omelette was sumptuous and came with a salad and sliced avocado. The omelette came with an incredibly tasty sauce whose name I forgot to ask as I was worried about my parking meter running out. Overall, great place to take kids too. There is a lot of room in the restaurant so there is no jostling of elbows when you eat.

Food was good, nothing mind blowing but so many great options. I’m giving it 4 star because the foods great and I think more people should patronize it. The service wasn’t as great. We seemed to be rushed a little bit. There were people ahead of us to get a table and they were asked to wait 10 – 15 minutes when the restaurant was practically empty. The wine and beer selection was weak. I think this place is suffering from Groupon fatigue. Everyone around us had a Groupon and if we knew this before we would have never bothered coming here. However, since so many people had one I decided to buy one on my phone to save $ 15. This place can totally stand on its own; just need better management.

I have not bought a Groupon in a while. I have been to the Troya up on Clement, and Meh…(now closed) But I had heard this one was better. We had 3 small plates and a lamb flatbread. Small plates were scallops, the platter of lamb bacon, figs, hummus and pita and the Hallumi cheese and peach salad. There was plenty of food. The Lamb bacon was great, loved the scallops and the peach salad was a nice light touch. Our server Veronica was a doll and the food was well paced. There are plenty of other things I would like to try — the cauliflower, the brussels sprouts, the kebob. It was a great deal on a Groupon, and glad I finally hit this spot.

Things I love: dining solo and getting the chance to sit at the bar. Things I love more: the fig, hummus and lamb bacon dish I ate while at Troya. There’s something incredibly satisfying in this dish’s simplicity and paired with the brussel sprouts, and olive oil poached salmon my little ginger soul was content. Weeks later I am still contemplating the fig, lamb bacon and hummus dish and have even gone so far as to try and recreate it at home. Alas, the joy of it will be something I hold dear until I can wander up Fillmore to Troya once again. Cliffnotes you’ll want to know: — This is just as easily a venue for you to dine with a few friends. Solo dining isn’t all Troya is good for. — They do offer take-away(or at least did while I was in town in July) — 3 dishes were more than ample for one. I dare say they would have been equally suited portions if I had a dining companion to share with. — Take the suggestions from the waiters. They know their stuff!

I’ve eaten many Mediterranean dishes in the past, and Troya applies the Turkish version to most of their items. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts, Scallops, Lahmajun flatbread and the Manti. The waiter was very friendly and provided great service. All of the food tasted good, yet I would say the cuisine is an acquired taste. The one dish that I missed and will try when I come back is the Cauliflower.

I’m salivating just thinking of it now, three days later. Every bite was amazingly flavorful and delicious and unique. We will definitely be going back. Interestingly enough, the dish I was looking forward to the least was my favorite – definitely get the Roasted Cauliflower. I can also recommend the Lahmajun Flatbread, the House Made Manti, and the salmon(which doesn’t appear to be on the Unilocal menu at the moment). Just be aware that you’re going to spend quite a bit(I think that Troya should be listed as $$$ instead of $$) and you probably won’t have leftovers.

Between two, we split 4 small plates: calamari, cauliflower, scallops, and halloumi cheese. And the lahmajun flatbread. The amount was perfect for us, taking home a few slices of the flatbread to-go. We weren’t really impressed by any of it though. The calamari came out smelling amazing, and the seafood was all fresh, but they were also very small portions for the price. Same with the halloumi cheese, which tasted great, but only had like 3 tiny slices of fruit and a tiny slab of the cheese. On the other hand, the cauliflower plate was huge. I think you’re supposed to get complimentary chips, which we didn’t get, but received after asking. We agreed that we may have just ordered the wrong things, considering that I usually come into a Mediterranean restaurant craving lamb and hummus. This time was a bit more adventurous.

Hit and miss experiences here. The halloumi omlette they sometimes have at brunch is really good if you like salty halloumi, and it’s an item I haven’t seen anywhere else. Same goes for the dinner salad with halloumi and persimmons, which is salty, lightly sweet, and complex. The lunches are overpriced and twice I’ve had my chicken kebabs come out undercooked(I will say they replaced them with fully cooked ones ASAP). The lentil soup is very creamy but needs a lot of salt and the squeeze of lemon it comes with to get the depth of flavor to shine. Troya is a good stop for the neighborhood, but not a destination for Mediterranean food.

Instead of saving room for kebabs, we should have grazed through the top part of the menu because the small plates at Troya really shine. If I could rewind dinner, I’d order a smörgåsbord of roasted brussel sprouts & cauliflower in addition to the seared scallops & trio of dips we picked(with the best undoubtedly being the walnut, which we killed.) We abandoned the Turkish bread, which was too doughy & not fresh tasting, in favor of the complimentary spiced crackers. The roasted sauces that accompanied our chicken & lamb kebabs were spectacular(red pepper & eggplant, respectively), but I thought the chicken was tough & not properly seasoned. Really enjoyed the fresh flavors in the arugula salad & in the chickpea salad, but the protein was a bust. What I would order in its place next time — a flatbread(pear, lemon, goat cheese one sounded amazing.) Lastly, side of basmati rice with slivered almonds was fluffy & nicely flavored. Stick with sides & small plates & you’ll be feeling fine in the modern Pac Heights eatery.

I’ve seen queues out of this place. Popped in for lunch and was greeted with friendly staff. The lunch menu is reasonably priced, great food particularly the fact the wraps can be made as salads too. The char grilled chicken has the perfect char grilled taste. Good serving sizes for lunch too, not too much that there’s food wastage. Would definitely come back. Oh and their Turkish peppermint tea is delicious!

TL;DR: Had a good dinner but the food wasn’t mind-blowing. Service was great. Tagine was flavorful and interesting; beef dumplings were just ok. Maybe try multiple small plates. AT and I came here with a LivingSocial voucher(which I sometimes purchase to force ourselves to try a different restaurant in town). Getting a reservation was no problem, and when we arrived there were plenty of open tables. The service was great, and the food came out quickly. AT and I got two main dishes(tagine and beef dumplings), but the table next to us opted to get several small plates to share. AT’s tagine was good – it’s a vegetarian dish with plenty of flavor. My dumplings were good but got boring halfway through. It’s basically mini beef dumplings covered in a yogurt sauce. I think it would have been better with a smaller serving and maybe something on the side. The baklava threw us for a loop: it looked like a cinnamon roll but tasted like baklava. Don’t get me wrong – it was still good, but just strange. Overall, things were good, and I want to try getting multiple small plates next time. But for the price point, I think I want to try a few other places first before coming back immediately.
