EH, is the word to describe this place. I got my haircut here a couple times. They did not do a good job even after i explained how i wanted it cut. I felt like i was rushed through my haircut.
Also the place it small and not very modern. That fine by me cuz im not spending an hour there like some girls when they get their hair done. 3 stars because i didnt have to wait…

if you value your hair, DONT ever come here ! I would give this place negative stars if i could. I have had my share of bad haircuts but this is by FAR the worst place I have ever been to.
I went in looking for a half inch to 1 inch trim because my hair was getting a bit dry and my bangs were getting way too long and thought you cant go wrong with a little trim and even if you did you can always get it fixed elsewhere. I was totally wrong about that…
I dont know the name of the woman who cut my hair but she was one of the older ones and had red hair and was a bit chubby. WATCH OUT FOR HER !!! So she asked me what I would like and I told her in both english and chinese, to ensure that she would understand, that I only wanted a little trim off the ends just to remove the dry parts. She began by wetting my hair with water spray, which is fine, but then she took her comb and started yanking at my hair with full force. It was actually so painful that I started to tear up a bit. But i thought ‘okay this is probably my fault because i did just get out of bed and headed straight here’ so i sucked it up for what was a painful 5 minutes of hair yanking. When she was done with that, she proceeded to grab a large chunk of my hair and cut off what looked like 2 inches… thats when i began to worry. Yes I know my hair is dry but its not 2 inches of dry !! If i wanted that I wouldve asked for a haircut not a trim !!! She spent no time at all butchering my hair, cutting off 2 inches here and there and was done within 5 mins or less ! Then she proceeded to cut my bangs. I specifically told her to keep them long and just layer it a bit more. What did she do? She cut it ALL off. My bangs right now are literally an inch long. 1 INCH !! I typically have side swept bangs that go past my eyes. Right now they are half way up my forehead and you can forget about the side sweep ! And some parts is even shorter than an inch, it sticks up like a boys hair ! Its so short that its beyond the point of repair !!
I’m honestly so upset with this place, I don’t know how this woman even got her license but it should be revoked or something. It was an $ 11 haircut totally not worth it, I couldve done a better job cutting my hair in the dark. I seriously look like a prepubescent boy right now with there horrendous bangs and I just want to hide for 3 months until my hair grows back. I’m sad that its beyond the point of fixing and bangs are the most important part of a girls hair imo. FML for ever stepping foot in here :’(

Not great, not bad. It’s what you’d expect for an $ 11 haircut or trim. I’m growing my hair out to donate so I’ve been putting off cutting my hair but I’ve been seeing a few split ends so I thought it would be best to try and grow my hair out while keeping it as healthy as possible =). I’ve had short hair for a few years so split ends had become obsolete for me. Anyway, I wanted somewhere cheap where I can get a trim and my friend suggested Top Design Beauty Salon. It’s not bad but just a bit far for me since I’m in San Mateo. I need to see if I can find a place closer to home. Otherwise, I’d probably be back for my trims.
He did cut a little bit more than what I had wanted…=(but at least now I (hopefully) don’t have any more split ends.

I’ve been coming here about 3 years ago, I found this place on accident driving by and I passed by it a lot. I am the type to get a cut like 1nce a year SERIOUSLY. So I didn’t want to go to a place that is insanely expensive since I don’t really think its worth that much of a cut. Now I come here whenever I need a cut, my stylist here is Anna; she’s great. Kind of old fashioned with her cuts, but she listens to me when I specify. I made sure of it! That she’s not one of those stylist that just chops off your hair b/​c «THEY» feel that you have too many dead ends. But she definitely ADAPTED to how I like my cuts now, so if you ever come here feel free to ask for her; SHE WILL LISTEN. As long as YOU PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN. She’s great at dying hair too! I had highlights done here like 2 years ago & she maintained it for me. It turned out awesome, btw my dye costed the ranges of $ 30-​$ 60! So it is quite cheap and it STAYED IN TACK for a long time. One down side is that their english isn’t all that great, they speak chinese; but its easy for me since I speak cantonese: T

I really dislike giving low reviews, but idk, just hear me out.
So after getting out of the shower, i look in the mirror, and I really just have A LOT of hair, it was time for a cut!
So I had this place in mind, just because it was close to home. I was nervous, cos you know, its a girl’s hair! if it goes wrong, i will have to go to another place to get it fixed, which means, cutting off MORE hair.
But it eventually grows back. So i brought my moral support, andy. Who was also going to get a haircut.
He told me he didnt go to the place i had in mind anymore. He used to go there regularly, but since the guy that usually cuts his hair moved across the street. i.e. THIS PLACE.
So I went to check it out… there was a wait! gah. So we spent some time picking a haircut for andy. He usually gets the military cut, and said he didnt want that anymore. So we picked out something that looked like Beckham while we waited and sorta went with that. Most of the customers seemed to be old people… men and women. All the women were getting their hair colored and permed. how stereotypical of old chinese women.
The lady talked the talked and said she can do it…
Anyway, i was having 2^nd thoughts about getting my hair cut here, but i overheard the guy is in need of money or something, and he works really hard, and lives in chinatown. So i thought, im here, might as well help the guy. So i went up to him and asked him if he could cut my hair too while andy was still getting his. He told me to ‘hold on’ so that he could finish having a convo with this other lady. So i said, ok. And waited, andy finished his, which does NOT look like anything in the pictures… i paid and tipped and said, i’ll just get it next time.
We went across the street to the place I originally wanted to go and got my haircut there. Read next review to find out what happened!

I’ve gotten my hair cut here a few times. Honestly I went here because it was newly opened when I first started. Then they raised the prices and then I still came.
My only thing is if you get the lady who I believe owns the place to cut your hair she will take her time with you. If you get the guy he’ll rush and not do a good job.
I haven’t been back and tried another place down the street. I might go back to get a hair cut, but I’ve been reluctant.
