I went on a rainy Friday. Not too busy if you go early. I ordered the happy hour goat cheese and corn fritters which were fantastic and I had the grilled salmon. It was excellent.

Located on the first floor of the Hotel Adagio, I arrived here late on a Friday night and stopped in for a drink and a bite to eat. I went with the Buffalo chicken sliders and fries. The sliders had just the right amount of spice. The bun was fresh and the slaw was a nice touch. The fries appeared to be hand cut and tasted fresh, which I always appreciate. Try the banana ketchup just for fun. Weird concept, but interesting. The happy hour from 4 – 7 only has 2 cocktail options($ 7 each). If Sacred is bartending, order the gimlet. Deliciously refreshing. A perfect summer drink, and I don’t even like gin, or cucumbers for that matter.

Nice place for happy hour, love the mellow music and excellent friendly staff. Great to unwind after a work day. Food wise they seems solid, but I usually would not go to hotel lounge for good food.

Great time. Billy behind the bar and Sara offer exceptional customer service. Good food and craft cocktails are what you’ll find. Will be back.

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend getaway and thought we would stop in the Mortimer for happy hour. We waited at the bar for over 5 minutes trying to get 2 drinks. When we realized the bartender was«swamped» with his 6 seat bar we asked the waitress if we could order from her. She was very polite and took our order. We got happy hour pizza and 2 Moscow mules. The pizza arrived before our 2 drinks. At this point we were just stoked to finally have a drink in our hand after a day of travel so we did not say anything. Unfortunately The first sip of our drinks made it VERY clear that this bartender not only has no sense of urgency but also is not very good at what he does. I went back up to the bar and asked I we could get 2 more because they were undrinkable. I was met with attitude and eye rolling. To say the least we will not be going back.

This was the best dinner I had in San Francisco during Oracle Open World which is a crazy time in the city. The salmon was cooked perfectly and it was relatively quiet. The service was excellent and bar staff helpful.

Very bad service the manager Daniel and the servers are rude to costumers… Don’t go!!! l they don’t like anyone that is visiting the bar on the hotel !!! They are very racist !!! Jewish people apparently are not welcome there. Very sad!!! I will never go back and all my friends that live in San Francisco are not going there any more … Unbelievable that thing like that happening in 2014 in San Francisco one if the most liberal places in the US

Great date night spot, although the hotel guests constantly passing by our table was a bit distracting. Lovely cocktails and we had a fabulous meal of small plates. Great cheese plate variety. Hummus was creamy & delicious. Mushroom pizza also a hit. Bruchetta was the best thing we got. So, overall, a nicely-priced romantic pre-theater dining experience.

It’s very convenient to my house. The décor and energy is really nice but the food not so great. Not that the food isn’t fresh it just seem like you was trying too hard and nothing really unique. The drinks were ok but for the price I would expect and maybe something a little bit more. I guess it’s just the place you go to to get a decent drink in decent food but did not blow my socks off. I will go back though because its so close to my house

This was the best dinner experience I’ve had in a long time. Special thanks to our fabulous waitress, Vanessa. I went to the Mortimer on Saturday to grab a nice dinner with a friend. We each ordered the short ribs with potatoes and vegetables, and the meal was outstanding. Far better than anything I’d had from the Grand Café across the street. But the real pleasure of dining here was watching Vanessa take on an unpleasant stranger, who started chatting up and touching my friend. She firmly asked the man to step away, called security, and got the guy thrown out. She handled the situation with such aplomb that I have no doubt I will be back soon for another meal. I want to say thank you so much and let the bar’s management know how much I appreciated her service.

Shame on this business for treating customers this cheap way! When I was checking my CC statement, I noticed a charge from them more that it should have been. Instead of the total amount(that was even circled!), they put it as a tip and summed up with the rest. I called them twice, asking manager to call me back. No response. I called my bank for dispute, a few days later, I saw they refunded me only the amount they charged wrong. I called my bank again and got total refund for even what I had to pay. Watch out for businesses like that, it’s not worth it at all! Shame on management!

Really good food — and a good portion size(just right — not enormous or tiny). I had the grilled salmon. Nice beer and attentive staff. All in all, spot on.

My first Unilocal review is at my hotel bar where I have earned the title of «regular» from the evening mixologist. I am about halfway through a month long stay here at Hotel Adagio, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The drinks here are excellent. Cocktails are very well made, great whiskey selection, and the like. This is expected at a place like this. Nothing is really over the top, but it won’t disappoint either. I have only had a couple dinners here. I have had the filet mignon(awesome), and the bourbon chicken(slightly above average). The filet mignon is my favorite dish here, and one of the best I have ever had. It is drizzled with a lobster butter that gives it an unexplainable character that will blow your mind. It is also reasonably priced for what it is. I have had a lot of filets from places such as Alexander’s, Flemings, Mortons, etc, and this is one of my favorites so far. Being that I am not typically a filet kind of guy, however, you may want to take my opinion with a grain of salt. The atmosphere of The Mortimer fits in well with the boutique hotel the place is situated in. The crowd fits as well: You will mostly find a bunch of young to middle aged professionals dressed in business casual with a suit or two mixed in. Noise is medium; you can easily carry a conversation with a group of 4 – 5, depending where you sit. There are 2 TVs that I have only seen sports on, and they are muted. The music in the background is pleasant and blends well into the ambiance. The Mortimer would not be an appropriate meeting place for a group larger than 4 – 5 unless you use the regular dining area just past the elevators. This room is mostly empty in the evenings, so you could have a large dinner here but I would suggest going elsewhere since large groups typically require a large menu, which this place does not provide. The speed of service is inconsistent. I am a very patient person so I do not find it too bothersome. If you are NOT ok with watching the only bartender chat with someone across the bar for 5+ minutes and not even acknowledge you, and you are not the type to speak up, then this place is probably not for you. If you are the type to walk around the bar and get some attention, you will receive fast service. Me personally, I’m not in a hurry since this is my home at the moment so I don’t have anywhere more important to be. I’m definitely the type to speak up when I need to and I know that I could get service when I want it, hence, only losing 1 star rather than 2 for such offenses.

Had some drinks and appetizers here. They had some good beers on tap(hello Racer 5) and the mixed drinks looked pretty good too. The appetizers were tasty — we had the tuna, quesadilla, and the chicken skewers. They were all devoured quickly and happily.

My thanks go out to Unilocaler Alexander R. What’s up with these hot boys from SF like Alexander R. and Justin N. I swear, if I was 10 years younger their gals would have a run for their money! My sincere thanks to these hotties for helping me have a great time in SF. The Mortimer is a bar located on the first floor of The Hotel Adagio but don’t let the fact that it’s a hotel bar fool you. The Mortimer was my favorite bar of the trip. Eric, the bartender was a such cool dude. Made me some amazing off the menu gin cocktails that started my night off with a bang. Such a great place to just kick back and wind down from the day. The décor reminds me of modern day Morocco. Rich colors with a modern twist. Everyone working the line were just cool peeps. I truly didn’t want to leave but we had many other spots to hit up this evening. We enjoyed this bar so much, we’re thinking of staying at the hotel for our next trip. Ya know… I keep getting warned about how bad The Tenderloin area is but I just don’t get it. I mean, jeez… I live in downtown LA. I know the crackheads by name. Downtown makes the Tenderloin look like Amish country.

The Tenderloin Cocktail Crawl All proceeds benefiting the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Third Stop: Grey Gardens The least impressive drink of the evening had a hint of sage. Consider, I’m comparing this newly renovated lounge to Jasper’s and Rye so least impressive does not mean anything near bad. Bonus — the bartender was easy on the eyes.

Dear Elle, I would like to apologize for my drunk friend last Friday. Ok, my VERY drunk friend. He doesn’t remember what happened but I do. I’M SORRY for the 16478436897425 questions he asked you. I’M SORRY for the goggley eyes he made at you. I’M SORRY for his peanut rant: «I want peanuts! Where are my peanuts? What you mean you don’t have peaaaanuttttssss… You’re a barrrrr!» *grown man pout* I’M SORRY that he laid out a drunkie munchie buffet of Cheetos Puffs & Ruffles across the fancy counter and continued talking to you as crumbs flew out of his mouth. He’s a really good guy, I swear to you… when he’s s.o.b.e.r. I blame it on the Apothecary cocktail he had. *face palm* Thank you for putting up with his drunken shenanigans and being so kind about it. You’re awesome and so are the handcrafted cocktails you made for us. P. S. — I’M SORRY that you missed out on his 6’2 frame body-slamming me into people on the street and his fistpumping in my face to dubstep as I drove his dranktard ass home. Sincerely, Cherylynn OTHERNOTES: *The Mortimer opened on 7.18.12 and was formerly Bar Adagio in the Adagio Hotel. *It’s a Restaurant & Bar(flatbreads, filet mignon and mac ‘n cheese are just some of the menu items). The Mortimer, previously Bar Adagio has been completely transformed into what I would call the BESTNEW hotel bar Union Square has to offer, and possibly all of San Francisco. The new décor is clean and edgy, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food is superior and the drinks on the cocktail list sound and taste delicious. I’ve been coming here for two years and my girlfriends and I have never been disappointed. We’ve thrown birthdays here, had large dinner parties, had drinks after work and Frank, along with the rest of the staff in the bar have proven time and time again what great service looks like! Everyone should check out The Mortimer, it looks amazing and I am so happy it’s back in action!
