Overall not bad, just not great either. Ordered 4 plates to go– lamb schwarma, chicken schwarma, lamb kebab and chicken kebab plates. Would not recommend the schwarma plates– swimming in hummus(which was good, but just too much), no lettuce/tomato as advertised. Kebab plates were better with an option of sides– cucumbers/tomatoes had a nice crunch, and the pickled beets were tasty. Maybe the wraps are better?

My dad brought home falafel for the family. This place, with the original store owners, used to have the best falafel in the city. The falafel today was embarrassing for our Arab cuisine. The falafel was soggy, tasted like bread and, bland tasting. The saddest part was the inside. Typically a lush and fresh green. These falafel were yellow and disgusting. We are so dissapointed. Not to mention how overpriced the falafel are. Won’t be coming back ever again.

I hate to say it but I won’t be coming back. The other night I got a large order of various menu items for a family dinner. One of the salads was completely spoiled and inedible. Parts of the green salad also had cucumbers that were not fresh. The falafel was cold. And they burned the lahmajin(which is frozen and defrosted in the microwave). I see their other location closed, and I hope they can step it up and keep the Irving location open. Spoiled food is just not OK. :(

My husband and I have been here several times, but this evening has us wondering if we’ll ever return. First off let me say that the service is friendly and professional. The service is not in question, but the quality and quantity of the food is. On the previous occasions we’ve visited, I was very satisfied with the serving size of the large schwarma plate. I would normally be able to eat my fill and still have enough left over for lunch the next day. Also the portions of meat were heartier and there was a good balance between all items on the plate. It was truly worth $ 12.00. Tonight, though, I was very disappointed. The food was ok, but the plate was small and the ratio of hummus to the schwarma was very lopsided. It was as if my schwarma was a little island in a lake of hummus. Then they gave us each one pita, which we eventually had to ask for more. When we first received the plates of food we honestly thought that they didn’t hear we wanted the large plate and gave us the small plate as a mistake. When my husband went to pay, he saw that they charged us for the large. We didn’t argue, the men were so sweet. So as I write this, I do so with bittersweet feelings. I recommend that if you do go, stick to the kabobs or the pita wraps.

My company was having a Holiday party and we needed party trays. I have contacted several restaurants/companies that does catering or party trays and I decided to go for Sunrise Deli. The workers here were friendly and responsive whenever I called. I called this location and asked what they recommended and how much food I should order. They recommended me to get a couple of veggie platters, kabobs, shwarmas, and falafel. I told them my budget and the total was less than I thought it would be and we even had food leftover! The food was so delicious especially the falafels. It was one of the best falafels I ever had. The dolmas were soft and flavorful. It was my first time trying dolmas and I was not disappointed. The kabobs and shwarmas were not dry and it was grilled well and tender. Many people seemed to be enjoying the food very much as well! I would definitely come back for party trays since the workers are accommodating and can’t wait to stop by for lunch next time I am in the area.

THEBESTFALAFEL/WRAP IVEEVERHAD. I came here with my bf and we split a chicken shawarma plate and a falafel wrap. The shawarma plate was delicious and came with a flavorful and tangy hummus. It also came with pita bread to eat it with. The falafel wrap was the best mediterranean wrap I’ve ever had. And I’ve been to several mediterranean places in berkeley. This wrap also had eggplant and other vegetables inside and was amazing. The two items really hit the spot for me and my bf. Portion sizes were decent, and enough for the two of us. Prices are cheap. Everything on the menu is great value. Service was timely and people were friendly. There is a great neighborhood restaurant feel and we never felt rushed or anything. Would definitely come here again!

I live in the neighborhood and have been mentally projecting good thoughts to the proprietors of this place every time I walk by in the hope that they will turn this place into the Mediterranean food destination it should be. I walk in every few months with the intention of ordering something, but I more often than not I back out before committing. When I do commit, I’m usually disappointed. They make great falafel balls. Sometimes. Actually, that one time two years ago when they made them fresh and I saw them pluck them directly from the fryer. But sometimes they seem to have old falafel balls hanging around that they reheat. They also heat up the chicken and lamb that was I assume was shaved off the(cold, unheated, despondent) shawarma log over by the front window sometime earlier this morning. The salads in that refrigerated deli thing look nice, but the menu is complicated and hard to understand. Can I order a small salad? How much is that? How might I get a combination plate that has a bit of all the best stuff? No? You just want to give me a blob of hummus and some meat dropped on top of it with a pita on the side? Okay, then. The menu(apparently painted many years ago by an apprentice sign painter) frustrates me. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to understand how to order here. Look. I hate to break it to you, but this family run establishment lacks passion. In a big way. What if you put some music on(your choice) and cleaned up the tables and swept and mopped the corners and painted the walls and had a bit of fun while you make food? I wouldn’t mind. Maybe look just a tiny bit happy to see people who walked in. I’m so sorry to say it, but this restaurant feels like the family who runs it can barely stand to be there. I think about this place a lot(maybe too much) and look in every time I walk by. But I eat here only when I absolutely need a Mediterranean fix. This is my neighborhood, and I want to support every restaurant I can in this is foodie dead zone. I’d come here every week if they gave me a reason. But each time I try it I wonder at how they are still in business.

The food tasted OK, but I couldn’t finish it, because I was disgusted when a cockroach crawled up the wall. The floors, chairs, and tabletops were sticky, which confirmed in my mind that they do not clean the place well. It’s too bad, because I really like Middle Eastern food and wanted a good place to get it in my neighborhood.

This was the first time trying this place, and everything we had was pretty good. We got the chicken and kufta kebab plates with hummus, babaganush, falafel, and dolmas as sides. They also had kibbes on a plate and seemed a bit old and I asked the guy if they were fresh and he said yes, however they definitely were not and that the reason why I’m giving it 4 starts. The kebabs and the falafels were made at the time of the order and were amazing, hopefully next time they’ll have fresher kibbes or I definitely won’t order them. All in all its not bad for a quick lunch or to get some falafels to go. Definitely some of the best falafels I had. The sandwiches(pitas and laffas) are reasonably priced and I will be back to try them since they looked pretty good.

I finally tried this place after being told by friends it was good. San Francisco is infected with many(many) bland, overpriced«mediterranean» restaurants that serve mediocre food, usually messy, and overpriced. This was not the case at Sunrise .I ordered the chicken shawarma and it was really good! the guy at the counter was polite, etc. However, this place could use a little help in the appearance of the place — they have boxes piled in the windows, the inside looks like it hasn’t been updated in ages, and the drinks are wayyyy in the back. You can’t even see the guy cooking the food from the street because one window is blocked by the neighboring green grocer. If they would just take a little time and put in a little effort into their appearance, it would mean more sales. They don’t have to go all hipstery doofus, or start serving shiitake mushrooms just make the front of the place more inviting, and be consistent with the food and it will do even better.

Sunrise! Why are you resting so hard on your laurels? Don’t rest too long or risk losing all your stars and some customers. Last time I came the guys working were very sloppy with our food preparation. The lamb tasted foul and old. Didn’t eat it. The lavash was stale. The falafel(my favorite) was not good. You know why? Cause you stopped making them fresh! I don’t want leftover falafel you fried an hour ago for somebody else. I’m paying for fresh falafel. Please provide it. Sunrise, I used to really love you but you’ve put a rotten taste in my mouth. Please replace that rotten taste with fresh, hot falafel balls. Otherwise this will be the end of our relationship. **Fair warning**

Food : I’ve tried the wraps and the plates… The meat in the wrap was straight from the fridge ice cold and not fully cooked, the lavash which was used for the wrap was also cold. The plate wasn’t any better… After the two attempts at this place even though the reviews said they make good falafel I would never go back to try anything they have to offer. Restaurant : It’s a health hazard! I’ve never seen any restaurant at this state I’m actually surprised they are still open and not shut down by department of health!

The rumors are true… this just might be the best falafel in all of Sunset, if not the city. I prefer Taboun’s hummus and veggie combo plate, but Sunrise Deli’s falafel-based items are definitely way better. My husband is a huge fan of their super falafel sandwich, which has a great bread to filling ratio and is chalk full of veggies and their amazing falafel. Other pros is that they accept credit cards and seem to have a delectable array of sweets(e.g., baklava, Turkish delights, etc). I still haven’t gotten a chance to try these yet and may have to upgrade my review if they are as good as they look!

I ordered some lunch from Sunrise Deli for delivery. Free delivery with a $ 10 minimum. [THEFOOD] Lamb Shawarma Sandwich($ 8.00) Greek Salad Plate($ 8.00) — add chicken($ 2.50) At first, I was pretty stoked about how heavy the bag was. Nothing is more disappointing than a scrawny shawarma. So you can imagine my disappointment when I bit into it and found my lamb to be incredibly dry. Not only that, but in the middle of the wrap, I actually had completely burnt chunks of meat that were totally inedible. The Greek Salad plate was disappointing as well. The cucumber chunks were gigantic, like almost longer than they were round. The chicken was also dried and overcooked. Overall, I don’t believe I will be ordering from this place again. The woman who delivered the meal was very pleasant at least.

I never saw myself as a falafel guy, but this place made me believer! I always thought that I didn’t like it, but in actuality, I’ve never tasted great ones UNTILNOW! I ordered a dozen falafels($ 6) w/a side of hummus($ 5.00). The falafels are delicious! Crispy on the outside and nice and light on the inside. I hate it when falafels feel so dense, but there’s a perfect balance that exists when eating it here. For an added cherry on top of the experience, make sure to grab a side. My side of choice is hummus. I could literally dip and down the dozen, but self control… as I would love to enjoy it for the week. Thank you Sunrise Deli! I hope to be back!

I give this place 4 or 5 stars for the falafel. Their falafel are always fresh and tasty. It’s located conveniently next to one of the good grocery stores in the sunset area which makes buying groceries and fresh falafel a great combo for a middle eastern Sunday breakfast.

The falafel here is freaking delish, and that’s all you need to know(of course that’s not all I ate). Was grocery shopping next door and stopped in to see what they had. I initially thought it was a Mediterranean grocery store, but was happy to see they had fresh food and goods. Ordered the Super Falafel which has hummus, eggplant, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, tahini sauce, and served in lavash bread. I absolutely loved all the textures. The homemade hot sauce is delish, especially accompanied with the homemade tahini sauce. I probably should have taken a few to go(seriously). I also ordered half a dozen dolmas and ate them all on the way back. So flavorful and tender. I was too full to try any of their Turkish delight or other desserty noms but next time for sure. SO good.

I had very, very high hopes for this place. However, the food quality was just not up to par and not very worth the price. I would only come back for the falafels. I’ve tried both the lamb and chicken, and both were very dry :(especially the lamb. it was very chewy and lacking in flavor. The falafels were pretty good. They have a great crunchy coating with a moist center. Honestly, not sure about the whole ‘best falafel in town’ thing, but they were pretty damn good. Service was okay though quite slow(even though we were the only customers there). Overall environment feels dated and not very welcoming. Better for grab&go.

Always busy. Great fresh food always cooked to order. Very casual dining. I’m a huge fan of the falafel wraps but have tried several other dishes on the menu. I have never been disappointed with anything. Either sit in or to go orders the staff is very efficient and friendly. The price is between $ 4 – 9 for almost everything on the menu. Street parking only.
