I’ve been going to Kathy for my eyebrows for years and occasionally she helps me with makeup. She’s sensitive to a client’s needs while also great at everything she does.

I don’t make it up to SF as often as I used to, so my brows could probably use a little TLC. However, Kathy is phenomenal with makeup — my favorite is the mineral pigments, absolutely hands down. When I run low I go into panic mode, but Kathy has me covered every time :)
Hands down, nothing competes with the Shades of Hue mineral pigments. I’ve heard friends rave about Bare Minerals and I tried it — I have pale skin and that made my face look tinted and very sparkly (absolutely, not the look I was going for!). I’ve also tried the Bobbi Brown version, but that was even worse — I barely made it through a full day in the office without it fading. With the Shades of Hue Mineral Pigments I can do a 16 hour day and still look good when I head out the door.
Can’t recommend Kathy enough — what she does, she does impeccably! If I wasn’t down in LA, I would definitely be in the salon more often.

Just a note that Kathy does everything well, eyebrows included. I took a friend in to have a makeover and after about 15 minutes with the foundation on, Kathy noticed it changed color on her. My friend said she has had a difficult time with make up color because it looked fine when applied but changed somehow and couldn’t figure what exactly was happening.
She’s very sweet, talented and informed. Give yourself the treat you deserve and make an appointment. You will love how she improves your look.

I have never been able to find someone who will hand shape eyebrows. I have moved to the peninsula and still drag myself to the city for an eye shaping. So that lets you know how good she is.

Kathy used to be my «go to» for brow shaping. However, I quit going because after she shaped & tinted my brows she neglected to finish them! Who wants to go around with brows that have not been properly groomed with pencil, brow mascara etc?
Come on Kathy, finish the job and be a professional! Your brow shapes are great but please don’t make us leave and go outside with ‘naked’ unfinished brows.

Kathy is the best make-​up artist ever! Her studio is charming and bright so she uses natural lighting to match your makeup perfectly. I have used her to have my make-​up done professionally and also for tips on how to apply makeup correctly – to highlight good features and hide the bad. She gives you a ‘map’ on how and where to apply shadow, liner, etc. and advice on the right shades for your skintone. I have seen her transform women, even beautiful ones, to look even better. She uses mineral makeup which I love because it’s light and not heavily perfumed. She doesn’t try to ‘change’ –if you normally use a lot of makeup, she’ll show you how to apply it but still look natural and not ‘made up’ – or if you don’t like to use a lot of makeup, she’ll show you the basics to highlight your features. I usually call ahead to secure an appointment so that I have quality time with her.

Kathy is a fantastic makeup artist. As an image consultant I have worked with Kathy for years bringing her new clients on a regular basis. Her salon is beautiful and conveniently located near Union Square. If you not already visit with Kathy, I strongly recommend that you do so. A makeup lesson with Kathy is an eye opener, you will learn so much.

For my brows — Kathy Thorpe is the main woman for me! She always has a dish of gummy bears for my sweet tooth — ready at arms reach. I love that she can:

Never makes me wait
Can get my brows the shape I’ve always wanted

Kathy is awesome with eyebrows! I’ve been coming to her for about two years now, and I still get compliments from strangers and friends. I have thin, blonde/​brown eyebrows that for whatever reason grow pretty long. I’ve been to others who’ve overplucked, but Kathy never does. She also showed me how to use her eyebrow pencils to fill in the gaps.
Bottom line: Kathy shapes with restraint, and the results are great.

Cathy is a miracle worker with eyebrows. I give her full credit for consistently transforming the mass of caterpillar like hair straggling across my face into two stylish, flattering eyebrows. I’ve been waxed, plucked, shaped and tortured by many an aspiring San Francisco stylist, as my natural eyebrows are truly caterpillar like, and Cathy is leagues above them all. The difference her work makes in my overall appearance and grooming is amazing. She is the one beauty service I cannot live without. Don’t tell her, but I would pay twice as much for the service!
