They came to Off the Grid in Burlingame yesterday. I was so excited for their empanadas. I tried one of their carne dulce and one of their pollo picante. Both of the empanadas were absolutely delicious. No disappointment there. The salad that came with the empanadas was just ok. It had shredded reggiano cheese, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, and honey on it. The honey made it over-the-top sweet. A little more dressing with some acidity would have been nice. The salad was a let-down, but the bittersweet chocolate alfajores(cookies) were on point. One other bummer, they are cash-only. It’s 2014, let’s get with the times.

Really delicious empanadas! Tried both meat and vegetarian(spinach with ricotta cheese) versions, and they were great. They are pricey, but they are a good size with a delicious crust and yummy filling.

Im a sucker for a good empanada. Patagonia like a few other trucks offer solid product. The beef with raisins is killer and the spinach egg and cheese is too. They come out piping hot and tasty. Great stop for superb snacks

Delicious! I would definitely go back. I got the spicy chicken empanada, sweet beef empanada and a salad. Everything was so flavorful and tasty. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is because of the wait. It just took a really long time, but I guess it’s a good sign because it means they are made to order.

Hmm pretty good empanadas, but I’m not sure if they were baked or fried. Either way, it was tasty but slightly overpriced. Sigh, I miss 5411 Empanadas in Chicago.

I am not an empanada connoisseur but I thought this was really good! I ordered the Spicy Chicken with a salad($ 8). The flavor of the chicken was delicious, fresh ingredients, great dough. The salad was nice with tomatoes, croutons, Parmesan and the perfect amount of champagne dressing. I am bumping my rating up to 5 stars because it was so nice talking with the guys on the truck. Clearly they are passionate about food and took time to describe the ingredients. I thought this was a great meal and hope they come back again!

‘SF Patagonia’ is the new brother truck to ‘Whisk On Wheels’. Trying to eat here was frustrating, and took me a few tries before I succeeded. The first time, they ran out of everything by the time I ordered. That’s to be expected for a new truck I s’pose. The second time, they announced on their Facebook that they would be at a location in Palo Alto. I ended up going there, and looking around for 45 minutes, but couldn’t find ‘em anywhere. Apparently they decided to change their location to Cupertino without telling anyone. The third attempt, the one where I succeeded, they said they would be open at 11, however, they did not start accepting orders until 11:45. Hopefully they start organizing these sorts of things better, I partly expected these types of problems to be solved since they already have experience from ‘Whisk On Wheels’, but alas, I guess even with previous experience, new trucks still have hiccups. Ayways, onwards to the actual truck review portion: $ 0.45 extra charge for credit card transactions is unfortunate. $ 8 for a single empanada and a side salad is quite expensive. They serve at a reasonable speed, not very quickly, but not unbearably slow either. –The empanadas are ‘medium’ sized? Not very large empanadas, but at least they are filled well. I had the ‘carne dulce’(sweet beef) empanada, and I didn’t think it was good as far as empanadas go. I’ve had this type of empanada before elsewhere, and thought those were much better. In SF Patagonia’s empanada, I couldn’t really taste the olives or raising, and I didn’t enjoy the taste of the ground beef they used. –The salad was pretty good. It had a nice vinaigrette, however it had far too much cheese for my preference. That isn’t too big of a deal though, since I could prolly just request no cheese next time. I was impressed that they offer fresh cracked pepper for the salads. –The Chimichurri Sauce helped out my enjoyment of the empanada. It was very salty, and very flavorful. –The alfajor was dipped in chocolate and then chilled. As a result, I thought it was too hard and stiff. Chilled baked goods just don’t chew as well and aren’t as moist. _____________ Conclusion: These are hella expensive empanadas. $ 8 for a single empanada? Even if the meal came with 2 empanadas, they would still be expensive empanadas, so only getting one is just crazy. The salad was pretty good, but otherwise, I wasn’t a fan of the food.
