Slow service and half of the items on the menu was not avaliable !!! Quality of food was average, you can probably find a better place to eat in this area. I would skip this one.

The hotel recommended this place as it is a San Fran icon. We got here very early and there were plenty of seats, but by the time we left, there was a line out the door. We sat at the counter and had a great waitress. I swear my coffee was never empty. It’s a typical diner with typical breakfast food. If you want a decent breakfast, Sear’s is a good choice. The French toast was nice. I took a bite of the sausage and bacon that came with my husband’s entrée. They were both good. It’s nothing to write home about, but it was decent. I don’t think I would wait in line to eat here.

Sears has been in San Francisco forever it seems. It is old, it is small, it is not super clean, and you will find you don’t care. Their breakfast is so great. They make the most wonderful pancakes. You will be in heaven. It is a local hangout, but also popular with tourists. You wait for a seat outside in a line, but don’t worry, it won’t be too bad. All the breakfast items are great. And for lunch they have a great crab chowder, get that and maybe some boneless ribs. It is a great spot. Enjoy.

It was good. I don’t think I’ll go bad but I would not object if someone else picked it. There was nothing bad per-se about it. It’s just that there are other places in San Francisco that are better, so why go to this restaurant.

The New York steak is good and not overpriced at all. If you’re dieting they’re very flexible with subbing side dishes. They’re breakfast is legendary. Silver dollar pancakes are a must try. Take home the pancake mix and take home a taste of San Francisco.

Oh Mr. Kim, you ruined my favorite restaurant. I had a Rueben here a few days ago. Yuck! The Pastrami was so tough I took it out of the sandwich. There was too much cheese and it was cold and hard, I pulled that off too. So I was left with greasy rye bread(also over done) and sauerkraut. It is always a horrible reflection on the waitstaff when you leave your plate full of food and they don’t even care. Bad service, bad food, dirty establishment… do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. It should not be called Sears Fine Foods anymore. It bears no relation to the original except that they still serve Swedish Pancakes.

We walked over to Sears from the financial district for breakfast on a Monday morning, since we heard about the Swedish pancakes and my husband is a bit of a fanatic. We had no wait at all when we arrived with a party of 2 around 8:30 am. I will say, the Swedish pancakes were not what we are used to, but they were still good. Not sure if they were something to write home about, but we didn’t hate them!(Who hates pancakes?) I got overwhelmed by the menu choices and panicked, so I just got the eggs and toast plate with bacon. It was a lot of food! Everything was good, really great bacon. And the coffee was prompt, just the right amount of hot, and nice and rich as well. The service was attentive but not hovery, and the prices were reasonable for San Francisco and for the amount of food we got. The atmosphere is what you really come here for, though. I recommend it if you are looking for a little hit of nostalgia!

When visiting San Fran, what a fun place to head for for brunch on a Sunday morning in Union Square. About a 30 minute wait at around 10am, but we were able to get inside and sit at the lower bar, which we loved with the diner style seating. The beau and I each started with a fresh cup of coffee, which was just like any normal cup of joe, nothing fancy to speak of. However, the Bloody Mary that we ordered, wasn’t the best I’ve had, but pretty dang good, spicy with lots of horseradish. Yum! I had a bagel with smoked salmon and lox, it was delicious. It’s not on the menu, but you can request it and it’s reasonable at just $ 10. The beau had steak and eggs, which he loved! All in all, this place has great customer service, good food, and it’s a great location with a homey feel. Would definitely come back again!

My girlfriend and I came here to have some breakfast after our flight. It is perfectly across the street from Sir Francis Drake where we are staying. At first look we thought it was going to be a wait since the line was out the door. But once we got in line it was no more then 5 – 10 mins of a wait. The hostess guided us to the table where or server greeted us. I ordered a coffee and she ordered her usual breakfast drink Orange Juice. After looking over the menu I set my eyes for the Sears All Meat Omelette. And she ordered the short stack pancakes with blueberries. The omelette comes with sausage, smoked bacon, diced ham and cheddar cheese and a side of hash browns and toast. The short stack was a buttery two pancakes with blueberries. The service was greet but only down fall is since they are soooo busy it might take some time to order. But overall experience was greet and recommend you to try it.

Celebrities, politicians, and even former presidents have dined at Sears Fine Food, but none are more special than the customers who have visited for breakfast and for dinner. At 4 each day, the restaurant metamorphoses into a white tablecloth fine dining dinner establishment under the expert care of two chefs. There is a new dinner menu with daily specials and a full bar to enhance the dining experience. The Swedish pancakes are incredibly popular — the kitchen says it makes 11,000 every day — but the Sears French toast deserves attention, too. It is made of sourdough bread, soaked in eggs and cream until the texture verges on that of junket, but retains a vague bread-like chew and the tang of ancient yeast, delectably complemented by Sears’ strawberry preserves. And there is more: excellent smoked ham or sausage for side dishes and truly fresh fruit cup for hors d’œuvre. There are pecan waffles; banana nut bread; big baked apples; Swedish coffee cake; and omelets with crisp hash brown potatoes. In addition, there are square-meals lunches and some fine desserts including strawberry shortcake and an autumn-only apple dumpling to die for.

Here is the deal on this place. Place is a three star but nobody reads three star reviews. The food here is good but not worth the wait in line. I had breakfast here on president day Monday since I was staying across street at Sir Francis Drake and figure the food would be amazing with the line outside. I can’t say I was disappointed, but let down. The prices were, what I thought, expensive for breakfast and the corn beef hash wasn’t in my style. The corn beef was tasty but all it was was corn beef and hash browns mixed together on the grill. The toast came out like slices of concrete, I prefer some tenderness to my bread, not a croûton in the form of a rectangle. The service was great though and the omlet although not my style was tasty and the line does move faster then what it looks. But there are a few other diners in the neighborhood that serve just as tasty food for a more moderate price and you can sit down immediately. Though if you are wanting to experience a timeless classic San Francisco establishment, by all means go there. If that is not your intent and just want a good tasty and hearty breakfast you may want to look elsewhere.

When we first moved here in 2013, I came here thinking it was a small café. But the rooms are divided into a bar/lounge and a full restaurant with old fashioned tiled floors and vintage décor. The tablecloths are pressed and you feel as if you have stepped back in time for a while. My favorite waiter is now Semi. He comes in at the dinner shift. He greets us with hugs. Even if he isn’t our server, he checks on our food to make sure that it is perfect We always leave with a full belly an something new to talk about. This place is really busy at lunch, so try an hour later. I found it on Open Table, and have been coming for the prime rib and lobster ever since. I recommend the eggs over easy with pancakes, and by the way the wifi code is pancakes. Good luck getting a table, and tell Semi, hello.

Second time for us dining at Sears on Union Square. It’s ideally placed across the street from the Sir Francis Drake, where we stayed. We arrived a bit after noon, but were craving breakfast, as we hadn’t yet eaten that day. Husband ordered corned beef hash and eggs and I ordered French toast with strawberry preserves. Both were perfection. Corned beef was cooked and crispy with rich taste. Hash browns were creamy goodness on the inside and crisp deliciousness outside. My French toast had hints of cinnamon and the preserves, sweet. Only slight complaint was wishfully thinking toast slices were thicker and bacon came with, and was not considered a separate side order. Still amazing. Service is very good and friendly. Lots of smiles. Very attentive wait staff. Quarters are a bit close, but that’s the city… You get to talk to your very close neighbors seated next to you. In our case, a very cute elderly couple, doing the crossword puzzle together. Seated on our other side, a young couple, enjoying eggs Benedict. It tickled us to notice this arrangement of young, middle aged and elderly… Stages of life, enjoying their time together. Can be a bit loud when dining room is at capacity. Décor is Americana… Saturday Evening Post and Norman Rockwell prints line the walls. Prices are only slightly higher than your neighborhood Denny’s and a million times tastier. They’ve been around a while and they got it right.

Everytime I woke up at weird hours and saw what was open nearby, this place always popped up. It left my mouth watering after reading about its history. I decided to drive by it one day, and go for it. But, even at 6:30 in the morning, I still couldn’t find a damn place to park. Enough to piss a person off! The next day, I was determined to find a place to park. I drove around the block twice, but found a what(now that I think about it) was an illegal parking spot. Hey, there was a meter. The curb may have been painted a different color, but, screw them(PS– whoever is in charge of SFDOT needs to become«one with the sea» if you catch my drift). I made it, and I was the first person for the day. I was greeted and seated. I was served coffee immediately. My server almost looked like Gordon Ramsay, but with manners. I forgot his name, but he was top notch. Speaking of that, this place reminded me of something that came out of the Depression Era. I liked that a lot. I could tell, this place was loaded with history. I enjoyed the white tile floors and the dark woods. I even noticed there was a slot machine up front. The menu seemed to be basic. I got an all meat omelet(that seems to be my AM meal of choice these days) with hash browns and toast. Shortly after, it came out. the omelet was filling, and the hash browns were plentiful. I almost thought about ordering more food, but I knew that would only be glutinous. It happens, I guess. As I just watched the place start to fill up with patrons(which, BTW, I was definitely the youngest), I people watched. I noticed too they had a bar, but I was glad I picked a table instead. When I got my bill, I was given a brass token, to play in the slot machine. I guess if you hit a jackpot you win free food. Cool concept! I guess this has been going on for a while now. If it were not such a pain in the ass to park, I would come here more often. It is a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, which is funny, given its location right off of hectic Union Square. Glad to see a place like this still around…

I’m not sure where I read about Sears, but apparently this is a San Francisco tradition going back some 75 years. Swedish pancakes. It seems a bit odd to have them here on the Left Coast, but whatever. I’m all for tradition! There was a brief wait for a table but no wait for a seat at the counter so I went with that. Service was a bit slow with a long delay for my order, another for coffee and another for a coffee refill. He was pretty quick to take my money at the end though. Pancakes were excellent. I opted to go with the lingonberries and that was the right choice. If you’re gonna go full Swede, go full Swede. The berries were nice and tart with just the right spreadable sweetness that the warm maple syrup was not needed. On my check, a 3% surcharge for San Francisco employee healthcare. So I carefully calculated 12%($ 2.09) and left that as the tip.

Fantastic breakfast spot right by Union Square. It’s a tad pricey but worth it. My wife even noted that the«regular» coffee is excellent – you don’t need a fancy one here. The pancakes are wonderful, and the french toast was perfect. Also loved the brick o’ hash browns, done just the way I like it(crunchy on top and bottom, hot and almost gooey in the middle). The bacon was thick and tasty, and the décor is very old school classy/funky/relaxed. I don’t know what people are talking about with reservations and whatnot. We went on a Saturday morning, walked right in and were seated immediately.

I had high expectations I think, but the granola with fruit and yogurt was disappointing! Mostly due to the proportions being all wrong. I got a full plate of granola and only a tiny bit of yogurt. The fruit serving was good though, and tasty, esp the green melon. The cappuccinos were OK to good, but not outstanding. The service was good, a 4 – 5. I did like the venue, a bit worn down but still pretty charming. Would come back, esp given how close it is to my hotel.

Ate lunch here. This is a basic American foods restaurant. It has old time pictures and old time objects decorating restaurant. There was a 30 minute wait to be seated. Service was excellent. Food was good for what we ordered. Personally, I thought food was how American food should taste like. TV at the bar was nice for watching basketball while eating.

Ugh. Had a reservation at 5pm. Long line to check in and no one from the restaurant acknowledged any of us. There was a woman gathering menus and such(I think she was the cashier) who looked like she was pissed to be working there completely ignoring all of us. A gentleman came and started seating all of us. He came back a few minutes later and I put in my two sons’ order because my husband was not there yet. Ten minutes later my husband and I ordered. Over twenty minutes later, our food arrived… but not my sons’. They then brought theirs out a few minutes later. My younger son’s fries were over-seasoned and he wouldn’t eat them and his grilled cheese was burnt. My other son’s burger looked dry. My Cobb salad(which was almost $ 20) consisted of five shrimp, one hard boiled egg, two tomatoes, four slices of cucumber… and a lot of romaine. I’ve eaten here before and enjoyed it, but this visit was extremely disappointing. We paid over $ 70 for horrible service and terrible food. And it wasn’t like they were crowded… there were maybe 10 tables filled. I want to support locally, especially longtime family restaurants, but they make it hard.

The price us very reasonable. That said, you get what you pay for. But the food is prepared very well. I had a $ 29 Rib Eye. Not the best I’ve had but it was above and beyond what you pay for. Paired with the mashed potatoes– your typical mashed potatoes. And subbed in the creamed spinach which was a generous portion and not too heavy. I’d recommend this place. Not too expensive for Union Square.

I want to bump them up a star just for the sake of being historic and providing that old SF vibe, but that wouldn’t be fair to my fellow Unilocalers looking for the best food. I love this place, though. I always get the silver dollar pancakes and sausage. We’ve had other dishes, too, over the years. The food isn’t gourmet or anything noteworthy, but it’s nothing to turn up your nose at, either. Go in with the expectations you have of a west coast diner and look forward to the ambience of historic SF, then you’ll enjoy it. This is not«fine dining» as we currently define it, but it is good eats.

Not sure if «fine food» is what I’d call the offerings here. The overall atmosphere is that of an old-school institution that may have seen its best days long ago, especially now that the Bay Area’s dining scene is so cutting-edge. The clientele appears to be mostly unsuspecting and/or unsophisticated tourists, as opposed to locals. While the food isn’t terrible, it isn’t anything to write home about. Just simple American comfort food. Whether the clam chowder or the Swedish pancakes(complete with lingonberry sauce that tasted suspiciously like the type Ikea uses alongside its cafeteria meatballs), the quality, variety, and atmosphere recalls that of high school or college club banquets you might have attended at your hometown function hall. Decent. But if you’re adventurous enough, you could do far better, even in touristy Union Square.

The place was jumping when we got there. There were at least 10 people in line for seating, but the host figured it was better to restock the pancake mixes than to seat people that were lin line. Waiter was fine, not good or bad. Food was so so and not, imo, worth the cost. I had crab soup and bread, others had a ruben, salad with chicken, and crab sandwich. We all had water. Bill was $ 59, seemed a bit much for the quality of the food. Not the worst, but not worth a repeat viist

I came here for late lunch today. Service: our waiter Eddie was super friendly. He gave me some honest opinion on the food. But it took too long for me to get my food. Environment: traditional décor and old pictures hanging on the wall show the history of this 77 year old restaurant. Food: I ordered mac’n cheese and today’s soup. The mushroom barley soup was great. All the ingredients(carrots, mushroom, celery and oatmeal) are very well cooked. It’s buttery but doesn’t feel heavy. The mac cheese was topped with biscuit crusts that created a interesting contrast of soft and creamy macaroni and crisp biscuit. However the macaroni was a bit over cooked. Overall I’d rate a 3.5 for the food.

I’ve been coming here for years. It is the best breakfast spot in San Francisco. Be prepared to line up on a weekend morning. I always get the same thing: the 18 Swedish pancakes, a side of bacon and coffee. The pancakes are sinfully delicious slathered in butter and maple syrup, the bacon is thick cut and the coffee is a good, full bodied variety. Staff here are well trained. They work hard, and are efficient. They are always nice. Every time I have recommended Sears Fine Food to a friend, they thank me profusely afterwards. And they are regulars now as well. So check it out. You can thank me later!

We ate here mainly because it was near our hotel and it of course it had an average rating. The line outside was not long and it went by quickly. This place is known for their Swedish pancakes. :Food: We got From the Grill, it came with two eggs(Farm Fresh Eggs) any style(eggs over easy), and you have a choice of bacon, ham, or link sausage; I got bacon. The dish also came with hash brown(substitute home fries for hash brown — add 95 cents), buttered white toast(choice of white or wheat) and jelly. Then we got the Famous 12 Swedish pancakes which came with a side of Lindenberry. The pancakes were a little cold, small, and thin. ( ) ( ) :Meh Moment: When we got the check, I noticed a fresh red star marked on the gratuity. :Rating: Our breakfast was about $ 40. Based on the food and service I thought it was expensive for breakfast. :M’Notes: ~Breakfast served till 3pm ~Inside seating ~Street Parking ~Parking Garages

This meal was absolutely delicious and the service was delightful. Oh, and it was filling. I could not eat all of it but I seriously tried. So let’s get this out of the way– there will be a line. It’s popular, it’s delicious and it’s been around for 77 years. It should have a line when compared to the options in the area. Lines are typically deterrents for me but this one moved quickly and even if it hadn’t, having eaten here, I would waited. It was well worth the wait. If you are rather impatient, there is seating in the bar area seating which was wide open on a Wednesday morning. Al’s Special — Swedish pancakes and corned beef hash and 2 eggs your way.(5 stars) Guava Pineapple Orange Juice(4 stars) Service(5 stars) — Caroline was a real gem. I would request her section on any return visit. She was great! The hostesses were very sweet too. When I used my token, they were cheering me on to win something. I didn’t but enjoyed the early morning giggles we shared. If you are looking for a memorable breakfast in Union Square, eat here.
