We were looking for someplace convenient to eat, and this place was exactly that. Only a couple of tables were seated and there was no wait at all. We ordered the miso ramen and the butter ramen dishes but they were nothing special. The food came very quickly so that was a plus, but our mouths and appetites were not happy. We’ve had a lot of ramen in our day, and this experience was probably the worst. The broth and the meat and vegetables were salty and the noodles themselves were bland. The noodles tasted like cup ramen noodles with no flavor. If you’re looking for convenience, then you should be fine, but don’t expect anything spectacular

Service was okay… Food was not good! Ingredients were not fresh and not good quality. I would not recommend this to my friends

OMG worst service ever. Mediocre food with Too expensive price tag. We were looking for a different restaurant but could not find it, so without checking out on Unilocal we decided to try. I used to be a waitress as well so even though the food is bad i will tip the nice waitstaff but the waitress was so rude not helpful and basically throwing our food plates to the table. Must avoid place

VERY underwhelming. Unfortunately I don’t have the internet while travelling, if I’d seen all these accurate reviews, I would’ve gone somewhere else… so thought i’d chime in. Came here mostly due to the sign in their front entrance proclaiming they’ve made their own ramen since the 70s. Ordered the Pork Katsu with ramen and since I was very hungry, I ordered the spicy tuna roll — only to be told the sushi chef wasn’t there that day, but I could get a California roll instead since the chef that was in knows how to make that. Ok, that’s no problem. The ramen was definitely house made, but the broth was so pedestrian… it was sad. Also, for some reason there was barely any noodles in my bowl! I was thinking it’s because I ordered so much food, they figure they could skimp a little, but judging from the other reviews this is just standard operating procedure. Every time I picked up a piece of sushi it fell apart — never a good sign. The service was adequate. Then the pork katsu arrived — it was dry. le sigh… I’d say about the only bright spot was that the katsu came with a bed of rice, which filled me up from the lack of ramen(which was hilariously the main dish i ordered). That’s it. I ate here so you don’t have to!

I aways wanted to try this place since they made their own noodles and have been around for so long, but was disappointed afterwards. I’ve eaten at a lot of different Ramen shops and this place was not up to par. I ordered the Miso Chashu Ramen and asked them to make if spicy. Apparently it’s 50 cents more to make it spicy, which I found out after I got my bill. The noodles were mediocre and did not taste like anything special. The broth did not taste like Miso and was too salty. They also added cabbage, carrots and broccoli to the Ramen which I thought was unusual. The only good thing was that the portion was bigger than a normal bowl. I recommend trying a different Ramen shop if you are in Japantown.

When I first tried this udon it was really good. But they drop the quality after some time I don’t know why.

The server was very warm and nice, but the food was not. I ordered the plain ramen with half gyoza for $ 8.95, and the broth tasted like cheap beef broth from a can. It was tinny and sour with a slightly off taste. The homemade noodles were nothing special, and the gyoza were edible. Not recommended for ramen or gyoza.

This is what happens when you are looking for ramen on a Sunday and you’re in a rush. I should have read the reviews and gone somewhere else. We ordered miso chasu ramen and karaage chicken. The soup lacked any depth. It was as if they made miso soup and threw noodles into it. I doubt a Japanese person owns and operates this place because it lacks any authentic flavored or presentation. Bottom Line: Save yourself the trouble and go downstairs to Nijiya and buy a package of miso ramen to enjoy at home.

Butter ramen, had to try it. Was pretty much regular ramen and dumped a square oily block of butter on top. The ramen was pretty good in general but the portion size for the price was definitely way too small. Best part was probably the classical orchestral music playing in the background(my type of music but did not really fit the Japanese background). Definitely a Westernized version of a ramen shop. The waiters mutter greetings and farewells, which lacks a sense of pride. Otherwise, service was fine.

Order 6 bowls of salt ramen. Soup was bland. Toppings was broccoli, carrot and cabbage. In ramen? Egg was hard boiled

How the mighty have fallen. Sapporo-Ya was once a pretty darn good bowl of ramen, in the heart of Japantown. Now, it’s a sad shell of its former self. It’s under new ownership, and it’s clear there’s no heart here anymore. THELOWLIGHTS. — Poor service(slow, unsure of what items were actually in stock) — Very expensive for the quality and portion size of what you get — Very mediocre ramen now(thin broth, half a hard-boiled egg [which is not the usual, gooey egg you expect to find], barely any chasu, and not much else) It appears to be more of a tourist-spot than anything now. I would pass on this going on.

MSG up the wahzoo, so much so that its extremely difficult to finish your meal without feeling sickly. I would be surprised if they stayed in business for much longer, especially being in Japantown and competing with more legit food in the neighborhood. I ordered plain ramen soup which came with awkwardly chewy noodles. The kind thats hard on the inside and definitely wasn’t homemade(as their claim). I ordered veggie gyoza on the side, which definitely tasted too good to be veggie… Friend got the ramen veggie stirfry what was… not Japanese at all. Midde eastern almost, with traces of cumin maybe? Very interesting at first, but also sickly afterwards. Big portion though.

WARNING! NOTTHESAMEOLDDELICIOUSSAPPOROYA– NOWTHISPLACEISAWFUL! I used to love this place and they really screwed it up badly. BADLY. My go-to was Miso Chashu Ramen. Used to have a delicious broth and firm meat and fresh vegetables and a tangy fresh taste. The bowl I got tonight is terrible, a completely different dish. Broth doesn’t even taste of miso, has a thick layer of some sort of oil that doesn’t belong. Meat is limp and odd tasting, like it’s been pulled from a meat stew. All the vegetables also taste like they were pulled from a meat stew– limp and bland. Yukkkk!!! I’ll give them a point for the noodles seeming to remain okay and the fresh(I hope) egg. They are even being skimpy with the dang noodles, unbelievable. But this is really upsetting, to have such a great place completely destroyed. Another poster mentioned that it was taken over by Chinese. Doesn’t kill the deal, most SF «Japanese» places are apparently run by Chinese(white people often can’t tell difference). But I get pissed to no end when somebody buys a restaurant, keeps the name and accoutrements, then proceeds to sell something completely different using the same name as the prior good restaurant. I wish I had seen the other review before heading in here, alas I relied on past experience and will be paying $ 15 for this horrible lesson. Hopefully I save someone else who knows how good this place was from making the same mistake. I usually don’t read reviews ahead of time for places I know well, but this is my new lesson. I feel like vomiting now.

Wanted to try another ramen place in japantown, and I did. The service and staff were nice, but I didn’t feel like there was anything great about the ramen. I had BBQ pork and it tasted pretty generic, not very flavorful but at least it tasted a bit healthy. Plus I couldn’t help but sense that they were on a budget. There was only thin slices of boiled egg in my ramen and the broth was a bit watery. My soda definitely tasted watered down and they didn’t have any of the ice cream on their menu. Again, I wouldn’t completely knock it, the ramen isn’t bad but it’s nothing great either. I would probably give this place another chance and try something else. But I wouldn’t go out of my way to do so.

Yes, do try this place ! the ramen noodles are delicious. The restaurant is very clean and the service was very hospitable. I was not rushed to leave very relaxing ambiance. I like that restaurant row all of them were full and this place being not in restaurant row and delicious was not crowded.

So, this was disappointing. When my fiancé suggested we ate ramen, I was more than excited, being a fan of the dish. He said that this was a good restaurant with great ramen, although it had been a while since he last tried it. I started reading Unilocal to get an idea of what to order and was a little confused to why this restaurant only had 2 stars. I ordered the miso ramen, which comes with their homemade ramen, miso broth, hard-boiled egg, 2 pork pieces, green onions, and bamboo. Sounds delicious, right? Think again. The egg was COLD(what?!) and the pork meat was still pink. The noodles didn’t taste that good — in fact, it tasted like pre-made spaghetti. I asked them to cook the meat some more, but my experience was ruined already. I couldn’t help but wear a sad face while I tried to nibble at my food, a little disgusted by it. I definitely don’t recommend this place. I wish I had accessed Unilocal before sitting down. Lesson learned.

so we were trying to go to Ino Sushi since they are closing but needless to say, didn’t make the cut so we were looking at other places. I wanted to go to Teroku but the hubs doesn’t conveyor belt sushi so we went here. kicking myself for not looking at Unilocal first. We paid $ 80 for 2 chirashis, 2 garden salads, and a unagi nigiri which is standard except the Chirashi was SOOO not worth the $ 25+. Service sucked too. The waitress was so confused when we asked what came with the chirashi. At one point, she rolled her eyes when I said no dressing too — WTH The chirashi came with 1 piece of salmon, 2 shrimp, 2 tuna, 2 hamachi, and a piece of squid and tamago — REALLY? the bigger salmon roe doesn’t make up for the price diff at all

Service was great. Staff had all smiles and was very attentive. Wasn’t busy on a Saturday evening. I ordered the Miso Chashu Ramen. The noodles were fresh & good. Had a nice al dente texture. However, the miso broth is lacking and it needs some kind of ummpph to it. Maybe black garlic oil will kick it up a notch. I did not like the chashu. It was chewy and tough. It wasn’t melt in your mouth like other places. They do give you a lot of chashu’s so that’s a plus. One of our friends ordered the same thing. She also agreed the ramen wasn’t like it used to be. It was better before. Our other friend ordered the corn ramen. He said it was good. My husband had the cold ramen. The broth is similar to sukiyaki dish. Flavor was good. Huge portion. He couldn’t finish it. We’ll come back again but won’t be on top of the list for ramen places.

So I cannot believe this place doesn’t use better reviews… I have to believe someone did not have the dashi right or broth in the ramen. I was not even slightly disappointed. Wonderful grilled Ika, ramen was fresh and soup was flavorful and Rich. I will be back before the month end… So warm in my belly!
