I am in town for a conference and needed some flowers to surprise my girlfriend with when she arrives tomorrow. I walked to Union Square and they were charging OUTRAGEOUS prices! $ 7.50 for one rose, $ 15 for a small bouquet of tulips. I decided to head to a small shop in Chinatown off Jackson street. It’s a ma and pa type shop, but just tell them what you want as all of their stock is not on display. They have a lot of bamboo and citrus plants inside and carnations outside. I asked about a rose bouquet. For $ 3 a stem she made a beautiful bouquet of roses accompanied by green accent leaves and small white flowers. She wraps it up and puts a bow on the finished project! I highly recommend this friendly shop for visitors and locals!

Found this cute shop in Chinatown. They have flowers, plants and trees. Good price with nice service. Paid $ 20 for a nice big orchard plant which was half bloomed which is just what I was looking for. I also paid $ 6 for a ceramic vase. The man even taught me how to take care of it. Very pleased with this purchase, would recommend.

She agreed to give me a call when she gets the flower but she never did, it has been two months. When I called to check, she says she is too busy to talk to me with other customers in the store, and that I’ll have to look for it myself if I need it by this week. She said she had it during the lunar moon festival, but I was there in her shop during late August before the festival to ask her to call me once she gets the 白玉蘭 white magnolia in stock. It is hard to find and she isn’t helping, always putting me off, very poor follow through and customer service.

Sandy’s is a very small flower/bamboo shop located in SF’s Chinatown. Their primary focus seems to be green«lucky» bamboo and orchids. I came here looking for bamboo and found out that they only carry green bamboo. They offer different length green bamboo, such as 8 inch or 12 inch, of which they have the straight kind and also the type that corkscrews. They will sell you little pots to keep them in along with the ornamental rocks to hold them in. The bamboo I purchased was healthy and grows quickly. Note that it is only for indoor growing. The male florist/bamboo retailer offered to locate different types of bamboo for me, but I just bought some of what they had in stock. I spent around 15 dollars for 10 sticks of 8 inch bamboo, a pot, and some ornamental stones. One other note was that the gentleman working there spoke perfect english(I think someone in another review mentioned this issue). Overall, a good experience.

The day before Mother’s day, I went hunting for fresh flowers in all of downtown. Usually, downtown have tons of florists and fresh flowers but of course I was expecting them to be expensive. Even with a bit of money in hand, nobody in the financial district had flowers even worth buying. One shop even tried to sell me a bouquet of wilting flowers. If it was fresh, I’d pay for it but I passed. My cousin reminded me of Sandy’s since our parents purchased graduation flowers from them before and we immediately started walking to chinatown. When we arrived, they were busy sorting the flowers and assembling a bouqet for a customer that preordered. I looked around frantically and the owner asked if I needed help. I told her I wanted a bouquet for mother’s day and was on a low budget. She asked how much I wanted to spend and I said $ 20. She told me sure I can help you, just let me know what colors you would like. I said orange and I found some beautifl orange roses along with a aztec lily that was still in its original celophane wrapping and some orange carnations with red tips. The flowers were so fresh and I still don’t believe she only charged me $ 20. She even helped me wrap the flowers nicely in fancy wrapping paper. Also, my dad purchased a bouquet for my brother’s graduation for $ 30 and was also very fresh. Both times, the flowers lasted for WEEKS. Pictures are posted so please enjoy.

My Mom bought some stalks of bamboo($~2/stalk) from here over 10 years ago and we still have them at our house… which was the point of today’s visit. Our bamboo wasn’t doing very well with yellow leaves sprouting here and there despite plenty of water so my Mom brought our bamboo back to Sandy’s for an assessment. The two women told my Mom tips in keeping bamboo happy which apparently is a little water and never cut them during the winter time since it’s too cold. It’s better to cut the stalks during in the Spring. Nevertheless, they were able to tell my Mom how to salvage what we had which made the trip worthwhile. Sandy’s is such a hole-in-the-wall florist that if you weren’t looking for it, you’d pass it. It’s definitely very narrow inside, but it’s home to very many orchids and bamboo. There are the deep purple orchids as well as white ones. There’s the straight bamboo as well as the bamboo that’s straight then curls at the top. I even saw some red roses in the back. Not sure if they speak English… highly doubt it.

I used Sandy’s for my wedding banquet flowers — basically a bunch of orchids. I figured a hole-in-the-wall place was where I would get the best deal, and I did. The flowers were great, delivery was super easy, best of all I didn’t need my mom to help me translate anything! I buy orchids from them regularly, they last twice as long as the ones from whole foods or trader joe’s. Cash only.

This small little shack-like room is deceiving. When i walked into Sandy’s i thought i wasn’t going to find anything fresh but i was surprised because everything there is pretty nice. the flowers and bamboo aren’t old and it is pretty cheap compared to the other places i’ve been to. I’ve also heard from other people that they were charged $ 30+ at another place for something they can get at Sandy’s for only half the price. pretty cool.
