This place was absolutely amazing. I felt like I could find my mom in the back cooking. We were so excited about trying everything that between my boyfriend and I we ordered tacos, menudo, and birria plus two micheladas. It was absolutely worth it. They make home made tortillas which were quite tasty. The birria(lamb for those who don’t know) was juicy and very tender. My boyfriends menudo was a little spicy but nothing someone couldn’t handle. While sitting there we noticed that a lot of people were regulars as the waitress recognized them by name. So you know it’s good. There was also tourist, my self included. It is a great gem in San Francisco please go and support this place your tummy will thank you!

Had cravings for some menudo and pazole and Unilocal did not disappoint in guiding us to San Jaliscos! Both menudo and pazole were good and while browsing the Unilocal pictures, decided to order the Machaca as well… yummm!!! Portions are large, service is friendly, atmosphere is lively. It’s not a huge space, but they cram a lot into that restaurant.

The customer service was fantastic and they made us feel at home. The grandma sent my son one of their tortillas wrapped up in a napkin. That reminded me of my mom! So sweet of her. Thank you! The menudo and caldo de res were what mom makes so you can’t go wrong choosing either. The tortillas weren’t you’re typical prepackaged tortillas. They were soft, duffle and warm. The Arroz was also great. You didn’t get that really mushy rice. This was fluffy with good texture. Just like my mom’s makes it! :) We are from LA and we were looking for something that came close to what we are used to and this was it! Overall great experience. We’ll definitely visit when we’re in town again.

I came here about five years ago in search of San Francisco’s best margarita. Although we did not find the city’s best margarita, we found some really good and spicy salsa and good Mexican food. Visiting SF over Thanksgiving I found myself eating dinner here and coming back prior to flying home for a breakfast burrito. I ate enchiladas verde that was filling and quite yummy. If you want to eat good family style Mexican in a casual environment, without full on Mission busy atmosphere, then come here. It is easy to park as well.

San Jalisco’s is definitely a neighborhood Mexican joint. Right off of Mission street, this place has a more diverse menu than the many taquerias that dot the area. I still had to try their burrito though. It came out fresh, with lots of marinated meat, guac, and beans. Service was solid(if a little slow) and the price is right.

This place is great, park my butt up on the bar on a Saturday with my buddy after working across the street. Watching all these locals come in and drink these chili with lime juice and beer poured in an ice cold mug. Of course I had to have a couple pretty damn good. Ended up eating a bunch of goat tacos and tribus. I like this place easy to get to and good food.

Solid authentic Mexican food, great variety, and super cheap. $ 7 for a massive burrito, even for a Mission Burrito, and $ 20 for 2 of us total, which is cheaper than most meals I get for myself. Service is a little laid back, which is okay, but not quite a 5 star experience I think. If you’re in a rush, maybe sit at the bar.

Todo muy limpio y toda la comida riquisima. El caldo de res y los huaraches de nopal son los mejores. Tambien el menudo es riquisimo.

I like this place, if I’m ever in the mood for Mexican brunch or a post-workout meal. No wait, friendly service, and lively décor/ambiance. I LOVE their homemade corn tortillas — so fresh and yummy! I had the machaca which was pretty good — tender pieces of steak and eggs, with rice and beans on the side. My boyfriend got the breakfast burrito, which was huge but filled with a lot of rice and beans. My friends got the carne asada, which also looked delicious and tender. Also, LOVE the horchata here!

Sunday tradition to eat at San Jalisco at least once a month. We always come to enjoy the local family owned restaurant, the music and the food! Our favorite is always chilequiles Remo!

I LOVE mexican food and I think I once loved this place as a child, but no longer for the following reasons: — chips not homemade, — enchilada sauce may be homemade(canned may actually be better), — salsa was really sweet, — tapatio(not homemade) hot sauce on the table. — service very slow

Oh my what a treat! My friend raved about this place time and time again so I was in the area and had some time before my next outing. I stopped by and sat myself down to a healthy helping of pork taco and chicken tostada. Loved the black beans, rice and fresh salad on the side. Both meats were cooked perfectly with so much flavor, and I wanted to take the fresh tortillas that I could not eat home(but I refrained). Of course, it was way too much food and I was way too hungry for my own good. Oh and yes, those chips and salsa — mmm, try not to fill yourself with too much of it — but it’s so hard not to, I know! And I washed it all down with a hibiscus fresca — they give you a large glass of it. Thank you because I needed that large glass to last me throughout my whole meal. Service was quick and friendly, and I will so be back very soon!

Absolutely the best Chilaquiles in town and an extensive variety of equality delicious breakfast menu items including the Huevos Divorciados and Birria de Chivo(on weekends). I’ve been here like three times already and I would continue to keep coming back. Never had a bad experience here and the service is amazing, even though it’s usually always packed! A must go if you’re in the neighborhood!

Authentic(or so I think), well-priced Mexican comfort food to bring a little bit of variety to my usual Sunday brunch rotation. Portions are HUGE. I’d definitely recommend sharing if you and your friend(s) can agree on a dish(a mistake my friends and I made). I ordered the huevos divorciados, which were not necessarily visually appealing but super tasty. The pork was so tender and just melted in my mouth! As a side note, insanely slow service. It took a lot of effort to flag down the staff every time we needed something, but I will say everyone was really friendly!

Solid Mexican food, extensive menu, and great service. The portions are huge. One could order one Cardo De Marisco for two people and have that as the entire dinner. The seafood stew was my favorite, super fresh, just the right flavor balance. Better than the cioppino in many of the SF restaurant that tend to be too much tomato flavor or too sweet. We also had vincente’s special– the grilled beef strips with bell pepper and onion. The beef was too chewy for me. Recommend to skip and order something else. Corkage fee of $ 10.30am — such a steal. It could get cold on a night in winter — bundle up, bring your own wine, and make a casual night out. Only locals here when I came on a Saturday night. Pretty quiet.

Seriously though, somehow I’m always amazed at how things can be so highly rated for what they are. Came here for lunch… chips and salsa were both eh. Which for a Mexican spot, that’s pretty huge. The chips were almost a little stale tasting. Then the super burrito I got came. It was giant, but full of nothing special. The meat was dry and not flavorful and even though there was avocado in there, etc. overall the burrito was just dry, bland and had a particular flavor to it that I just didn’t like. I like my Mexican food to taste really fresh, with tomatoes, and lime juice, and everything, but here it was definitely missing that quality. Won’t be coming here again.

San Jalisco is a reliable neighborhood spot for a no-wait, reasonably quick, inexpensive, and flavorful Mexican meal. We arrived at 8:15pm on a Saturday night, and it was mostly full, but fortunately they had a few empty tables. We received complimentary chips(served with tasty salsa) upon being seated. I enjoyed my enchiladas verdes and my husband really liked his spicy mole enchiladas. The service was a bit slow towards the end of our meal, but overall, it’s a good spot when you don’t want to deal with the scene that Valencia Street is on Saturday night.

I’m sorry to say that after the last two visits to San Jalisco I am compelled to update my review and reduce my rating of it! I said in my previous review that Milanese de Res was the best here, but the Milanese I got last night was so bad I would be embarrassed to recommend it even if last night was an off night. I actually had to send it back and I never do that, but I was afraid of getting sick. Plus, for $ 16, waaay more than other restaurants would charge, this needed to be sent back. The breading was burnt and falling off the steak, it absolutely would not stay on the meat and it was soo insanely salty that it was basically inedible. But the worst part was the first order, that I had to send back, taste like the meat had gone bad. When we told the server he was very nice about it and whisked it away saying he would have another made, but that is not what I would have wanted if I had been asked because the dish had absolutely no potential to be good. When it came back, my friend was done eating, and the while the Milanese didn’t taste like old meat, it didn’t taste like meat at all… because in the pile of chunky burnt breading… I couldn’t seem to find much meat at all. I said to my friend«I think they didn’t have any non-rancid meat so they just fried some breading». The guacamole that accompanied the meat was really good– as usual and their homemade tortillas are great too. But that Milanese man… I hereby rescind my recommendation of this dish. The last time I went to San Jalisco I ordered a two taco plate and am convinced that they overcharged me on the bill– I want to say that it was like $ 12+ dollars and the tacos had nothing but chopped up grilled chicken in them– no sour cream, no guac, no lettuce, nothin. Not cool My last comment is about the fact that the restroom scent is detectable almost as soon as you walk in, but the closer to the back you get it’s overpoweringly strong. I’m not talking about the smell of human waste– rest assured, but the smell of like dank bathroom mixed with that gross pink sweet-nasty smelling soap that public bathrooms always have. I will still standby my statement in my previous review that the coctels here are the best I have had, second only to Moriscos in Oakland.

San Jalisco hooks it up. I had the chilaquiles with egg whites. The rice and beans were aight. The chilaquiles were delicious tho. Crunchy tortilla strips, queso fresco, egg whites, red sauce. I was all up in that dish. It was serious. My mom’s chilaquiles still own my heart, but these are pretty damn good. Service is fast, portions are large, food warms your soul. So good.

We went here for dinner one Saturday. There was no one checking in customers so we waited until a waiter came by and told us to seat ourselves. We missed the very nice woman who is normally at the door. As usual, we started with choriqueso which was delicious as always. We nibbled on the chips and salsa while we waited. My partner had the caldo de mariscos, which he loved because it was filled with seafood. There was so much, he took half of it home. I had the chile verde plate which was fabulous! The pork was extremely tender and the sauce was great. Of course, I liked the pinto beans and rice. I also had to take half of it home. We had another dinner from the leftovers!
