Big relief to find a good camera store in SF after years of bad service at Gassers and Calumet. Staff knows their stuff and went to great lengths to help me. Have lots of cameras, tripods, backpacks and other gear to choose from. Will be my go to camera shop in SF from now on.

I used Samy’s for an evening work event and ordered two lights – which ended up not being the same temperature(and had another professional lighting friend double check). That was a bummer – and they were closed by the time we set them up so we couldn’t rectify. We were then charged $ 134 for delivery fee by a third party(the event was about 5 blocks from their store) and were never told in advance that there would be a fee, that we had options for delivery(including much cheaper options), or that it would be 150% more than the price of the products being delivered. Kind of bummed. We’re a non-profit and don’t throw money around. I called and asked for a discount and the woman on the phone was annoyed and said she wouldn’t be able to get back to me for almost a week. I’ve had other interactions with Samy’s and while their service is hit or miss – often great, just not this time – I’ve liked their selection and pricing of lenses and camera gear.

Dropped my camera off Monday to be cleaned. I called Thursday and it was ready. I’m happy with the cleaning but I would’ve rather they called me when it was ready. Spoke to a very nice guy who helped me with a lens question. I’m a novice on equipment, I just know how to shoot a great picture! I was pleased with his patience with my silly questions. Renting equipment seems easy if they have what you need. The reason for 4 stars not 5 is the hefty required deposit for renting. I will use their services again for sure, just have to be prepared for sticker shock
