Gus is quite the sandwich artist. My pal took me here and I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality food, reasonable price, and amazing sandwich making abilities. I went with the turkey and asked for BBQ sauce in place of mustard. The sauce was incredible, and the thick cut pieces of turkey were moist and delicious. The slaw was also a tangy and delicious side dish. I will be back soon, I’m curious about that whole chicken for $ 9, seems like a great option. This place is a hidden gem.

My friends decided on having Pete’s BBQ today. I immediately thought of Everett & Jones so my mouth began to water. I’ve never experienced Pete’s but thought if I get the same items I get at Everett & Jones I couldn’t go wrong. Welp, I was wrong. I told my friend I wanted links and potato salad(two friends went while I stayed at the office). Expecting to get bread with it, I didn’t. Maybe they ate mines… who knows lol. But my links weren’t off the grill. Very disappointing! And they weren’t regular mild links. The potato salad was okay. I like to drizzle mines in bbq sauce but their sauce wasn’t a firecracker in my mouth. Maybe I’ll try it again in the future. But I’ll definitely need to go next time so I can actually see what their food looks like before putting my bid in on an order.

The food is very tasty but one of the women behind the counter is Rude as hell! She’s like the Soup Nazi, doesn’t ask what you would like she just looks at you like What? Go in say what you want to move down the line.

The eats are good, the eats are cheap, all of this, thanks to Pete’s. My friend and I got ourselves a huge plate of BBQ spare ribs for $ 10.79. The prices of other entrees and sides are modestly priced as well – take a look at Ed U.‘s menu picture for the deets. This hole-in-the-wall not-so-authentic joint ain’t serving up fall-off-the-bone ribs, but there’s a nice variety of fat and chew to keep all cheap eaters amused. The homemade BBQ sauce that’s offered at the end of the lunch cafeteria line is free and is worth a try. Tangy! CASHONLY. Cheap plates of meat that can’t be beat – that’s Pete’s! goshdangit why is his name so catchy.

With all the designer barbecue in town like Southpaw and 4505, it’s hard to see how Pete fits into that artisan landscape. Even Austin’s fabled Franklin BBQ had a two-night pop-up at Smokestack earlier this year that apparently made«Soylent Green» look like a country club dance. I guess it doesn’t really matter because Pete’s is not really a barbecue place despite the name because there’s no smoker or rotating rotisserie rack that I could see. Everything’s presented cafeteria-style like a Luby’s, and frankly that ain’t a bad thing if you’re not picky about how you want your barbecue. It’s solid, finger-sucking eatin’ for sure, and I’m pretty sure that’s Pete himself carving up the ribs at the beginning of the line. Jamie W. and I had been hanging out at the revitalized north side of Dolores Park when we felt an urge for ribs but nothing that would force us to wait for hipsters to finish their plates. I’ve never tried Pete’s before, but I figured this might do the trick on a Saturday evening where every other eatery was crawling with high-octane twenty-somethings. Pete’s definitely doesn’t attract them. The target customer base consists of large families who huddle around the chipped formica tables and large guys who order big bags of meat to go. Jamie and I both ordered the $ 10.79 Spare Rib Dinner where Pete chops up five ribs a plate and ladles on the not-quite barbecue sauce. We pushed our trays down the line where the ladies take over. We each got a baked potato and a big roll with a scoop of butter. Too bad the roll was cold as the butter looked like wallpaper paste when we slathered it on. We each got our own side. Jamie got the bean salad, but I apparently felt I needed more taters since I went for a scoop of potato salad(photo: ). The ribs were decent enough and quite meaty, more than enough for the price if you ask me(photo: ). The baked potato was a little harder to dig into than I wanted, but it was nothing that a dollop of butter couldn’t resolve, while the potato salad was Sunday picnic-good. We were surprised we secured a table since the big families were pretty territorial, but it all worked out. Like I said, it was finger-sucking good. FOOD — 3 stars… not really barbecue in the smokehouse sense but a rib-sticking cafeteria for sure AMBIANCE — 2 stars… chaos at dinner time, grab a seat the moment someone gets up SERVICE — 3.5 stars… the staff knows what they’re doing TOTAL — 3 stars… you better be hungry… and not all that picky

Pete’s is kind of cafeteria-ish. No fine dining here — heck, no BBQ here. This is all rotisserie stuff, as you can see in the front window. Food’s solid enough(and cheap), but it is certainly nothing fancy. If you go for one thing, go for the chicken.

My favorite spot in San Francisco so far. The portions are HUGE, a real man meal without a doubt. So much more unique than than the 100 Mexican places in the mission also

tender ribs, juicy chicken, tasty sauce that doesnt overwhelm the flavor of the meat. they give you a big slab of butter for the fluffy potato. coleslaw was creamy and crunchy. bread was on the cold and stiff side. all for $ 12!!! not bad. its not super tasty like its gonna blow your mind, but for $ 12 this is all win! cash only! the line moves quicky. seating is limited. this place harks from the old school era of the mission before the hipsters and techies. just good bang of the buck for the people! owner is an nice old man cutting the meat!

If you know good ribs, stay away. The only thing good about the ribs is that they’re tender(most parts of them anyway). Flavour(even with the sauce) was just salt… not the tangy, wonderfully marinated meat you’d expect. Just salt. They aren’t smoked either, or if they are, it’s undetectable. For $ 10 a pound, you should get them if all you care about is eating cheap, and mostly tender meat. Otherwise, you can make better ribs at home. If you want amazing ribs, I have no suggestions for you in this city yet. It has been disappointing.

This is everything I’ve ever wanted ribs to be but didn’t know they could be. Fresh off the grill, it was crispy and the perfect texture and the meat just melted off the bone. The bbq sauce was the best I’ve ever had. I think they make it themselves? Not sure. Prices were a little steep for such a homey laid back décor within, but it’s SF. Definitely going back!

I’m giving a one star for the service! The food is always amazing(went once before). Me and my brother and some friends went to get some food from here since we were In town. We ordered 2 chickens, ribs and potatoes to go. Since theirs not a lot of tables, we got the food to go but when we were leaving, people left from one table and so we decided to eat there. As we were sitting down,(Pete) the man started screaming ! «You have To go, I asked you if it was for here or to go, I charge more if you eat here! I’m sorry but you gotta leave…» Screaming loudly and getting super red!!! We honestly didn’t even know that is was more money to eat there, and we could of easily paid the difference. But it really SUCKED that PETE put me and my whole group on the spot!!! He started screaming and everybody was watching!!! We weren’t trying to save a few bucks, but he took it as if we were trying to play him, it’s disappointing that you get food and get treated like THIEFS in front of everyone. So we just left to not be on the spot any more! Petes a Jerk

Tried this place as part of my exploration of cheap food options in the area. It’s cheap! The chicken is cooked rotisserie style, and the ribs taste pretty baked… It’s a bit of a stretch to call it BBQ, which is where a lot of my dissapointment lies. Even if it isn’t smoked properly, I’d appreciate better sauce or meat. But I guess this is a volume vs quality place. Come expecting a hofbrau type of meal and you’ll come out okay. You pick your meats and then some sides. They slide your plate to you over the counter. The place feels like it’s been at that spot forever, and the clientele look like forever customers. Old school place where you can fill up, but don’t expect anything to really tickle the tastebuds.

We were strolling on Mission yesterday and found parking easily on a beautiful afternoon… Across the street, we noticed this small place filled with folks… As we lined up, all the tables were full, so we decided to ask and share… We both ordered half a chicken, comes with a side, we got beets and potato salad, and it comes with buttered bread… besides, it was served by the cutest young man with baby blue eyes, still day dreaming… lol The food was pretty good, tasty bbq sauce, not overwhelming, the bread was a tad much for us… Very reasonable prices, about 11 bucks each… great deal and nice people all around, especially the one that allowed us to share a table…
