I love pepples donuts! Philz coffee, the coconut curry… The white cake with sprinkles. Oh man I go crazy when I make it out to the ferry building

With the fairly significant caveat that they cost $ 7 each, I’m pretty sure this was the best donut I’ve ever had. I had the salted caramel, and it was ridiculous, more like having a cake of your own than just a donut. Washed it down with some Philz on the SF Port pier, and life is good. My wife said it’s a good thing we don’t live nearby or we’d be broke and need heart surgery from too much Pepples donuts. And my liking them has nothing to do with their being vegan and all that. That’s nice and all, but this is not a vegan trying to convince you that they are good because they are vegan. They are good because they are good.

A friend and I tried 4 Vegan Donuts for $ 13. We had Coffee, Earl Gray, Chocolate W/Coconut Shavings, and Blueberry! All were very good and quite filling. There were numerous other selections ranging from $ 2.50−3.50 a piece. I’d recommend to local and traveling vegans and non-vegans alike!

Hate to give this place a bad review but they werent verygood. They were round little balls, not really donut shaped and a bit flavorless. I think we got the salted caramel which did not taste like caramel at all. And the pink raspberry or hibiscus one which I only remember tasting incredibly waxy. What a bummer!

TL;DR — Tasteless, bad service… Ok. I LOVE donuts. Having been in NYC and gaining my freshman 15 from doughnut plant and dough, I continue my journey to find amazong donuts. Cake donuts are amazing because they are a perfect cross between cake and crispy donut-deliciousness. I usually don’t go for vegan, but when I saw all the good reviews, I had to try it. The service: What service? Its a little cart at the end of the ferry building and I showed up 20 minutes before closing. The guy is already cleaning up, told me how eager he was to leave and requested that I pay with card because he already closed the till(card for a $ 3 donut?). Its rare to find such rude service for small businesses as customer service is a pretty big part in determining their sucessess. The donut: I only got one donut because the guy was rushing me so he could get home. I got the lemon. Uh… can I get my calories back? Because this was the most flavorless donut ever. There is no lemon flavor or even vanilla flavor in the dough and the icing has a strange aftertaste.(Stevia maybe?) I took 3 bites to affirm that it wasn’t just me, and even forced my friend to take a bite. It was just bad. Again, this is just an overhyped ferry building tourist trap. Yikes. Much better donuts in the Mission.

Pebbles donuts are amazing for everyone, vegan or not! My family and I are not even vegetarian, but our 9 year old has a deadly dairy(milk) allergy. We look forward to devouring Pebbles every year during our trip for hubby to participate in Men’s Urbanathalon. Enough donuts are ordered to satiate our Pebbles’ cravings for the next few days!!! MAPLE is our must order donut and then we pick a few more we haven’t tried. This trip we ofcourse loved the Maple, but also enjoyed Philz Coffee, Salted Caramel, and Chocolate Cookie. We packed some in our backpack, walked across the bridge, and sat on a bench warming up with a Roundhouse coffee and our sweet Pebbles… a new tradition was born! These donuts smell, feel, taste, and coat your finger tips with glaze goodness as well as ANY other dairyful donut… but who cares about those… these are safe for my daughter who, without Pebbles, would be medically unable to ever enjoy the deliciousness that comes only from a glazed donut. Thank you Pebbles!!!

Seriously. The… best. I’ve never tried their breakfast but their donuts are really dense, not overly sugary, and don’t give you that gross feeling after a breakfast dessert… other than the guilt that knowing you’re going for another. Beware though… the sign outside is SUPER small and behind a tree, so u may need to practice your u-turn skills if you aren’t careful.

Many people here raving about the salted caramel, but I found that and the cinnamon sugar to be too dry and cakey — more like a scone than a donut. The Mexican Chocolate, however, is amazing. My daughter had the vanilla and said it was a little bland, though that’s what I would expect of a vanilla donut. Looking forward to trying another flavor next time. Fortunately and dangerously it’s on my path to work!

Got a matcha doughnut. I wish it had more of a matcha flavor … It just tasted like sugar for me(the matcha flavoring) The doughnuts themselves are really soft and like a cake. Its pretty good and not too sweet I also got the salted caramel and enjoyed this one a lot more ~ it actually had the caramel flavoring and was good even at the end of the day after i bought it ! They were 7 $ total. Salted caramel was worth it kind of matcha not so much

Amazing. Absolutely loved having a variety of vegan donuts here after being limited to just two at Whole Foods for most of my life! Friendly staff, lot of fun, can’t wait to come back and try some more!

I had a lot of really great culinary experiences in San Francisco during my most recent visit, but unfortunately Pepples Donuts wasn’t one of them. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Even for a ferry marketplace that’s full of stalls, Pepples Donuts is the most basic of the basic. There’s a small glass case with the day’s offerings in it, boxes of aforementioned wares in the back, and you give your order and get your bag. Easy breezy. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? The cake donuts at Pepples Donuts run $ 3.00, which is a bit of a premium considering that they’re pretty small. Having said that, the flavors here get pretty exotic, which warrants a price bump of some sort. These aren’t expensive enough to have me withholding a star, but be advised that you can certainly get cheaper donuts elsewhere that are of similar or better quality. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Honestly, while I may have become a donut snob over the years, I really wasn’t blown away by these. I opted for Vanilla Cream and Salted Caramel, both of which sounded exceptionally exciting. In actuality? Both of these were pretty basic and frankly very dry cake donuts with some exotic toppings and glazes. The salted caramel? Too sweet. The vanilla cream? Too plain. The key to a donut is not only a rock solid glaze, but a moist and airy interior to complement and bring the whole thing together. Not a fan. No Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I wouldn’t, and frankly, you’d be better off seeking out some of the better donut options in this great foodie city. No Star Granted.

Overall Donuts do nots disappoint with their super donuts inside the Ferry Building. Cute store, cute service, cute donuts, cute delicious food. Food Vegan, spongy, sweet, wow, wow donuts. What makes these special is the way the cake/donut tastes. A donut through and though but with a more cake like style that a traditional taste and feel. Glaze and topping just adds to the greatness. Bit pricey compared to reg donuts… well these are not reg Service Small stand at the north end of the building. Really friendly and kind man runs the shop, no especially good service but by no means bad.

Shared the blueberry, lemon poppyseed, philz coffee, chocolate cookie, and salted caramel. All who tasted, enjoyed the treat! Definitely will go back for a treat again and try a new flavor.

These donuts were really, really yummy. I normally don’t eat sweets like this. So this was a total indulgence for me. I had the salted caramel, cinnamon, Mexican chocolate, and the normal frosted ones. They were all great! My favorite was the salted caramel. The others were just as amazing. But there is something so satisfying about salted caramel. The consistency of the donut was perfect. It was thicker and heavier than your regular donut. And it won’t give you that sick feeling you get after eating a «normal» or junkier donut. It definitely tastes«cleaner.» Can’t wait to try these again!

Donuts are delicious, but often a guilty pleasure. Pepples donuts are vegan and organic so I don’t feel totally guilty indulging! I’m not one to choose vegan options over their«unhealthier» counterparts, mostly because of the taste. However, the donuts here taste great and you can’t really tell they’re vegan at all! The only little gripe I have about the donuts themselves is that they’re a bit dry and dense. But Pepples has a really great variety of flavors whether you like a touch of fruit(blueberry, lemon poppyseed), something more decadent(salted caramel, Mexican hot chocolate), a unique flavor(Philz coffee), or a classic(candy cap/maple). The little kiosk is located on the side of the building closest to the Bay Bridge; it’s almost right next to the doors on that side. I always see the same older guy working there and he’s nice. The donuts are $ 3.50 each, I believe, which is definitely pretty expensive for one SMALL donut. But hey, this is the Ferry Building, what else would you expect? If you don’t feel like getting your dessert from Humphry Slocombe, definitely come here instead! There’s hardly ever people in line and there’s a lot of delicious flavors to choose from. I recommend the Mexican Hot Chocolate!

I admit that I’m not a big donut fan. You can probably blame the rise of Krispy Kreme and my binging on them during my adolescent years for that. Anything that represents fried dough and I generally take a mediocre stance on it. That being said, when I read about National Donut Day this year, for whatever reason, it struck me as something I should celebrate. I considered going out of my way to the Mission for donuts, but decided that I wasn’t that committed and ended up at Pepples thinking that the line would be shorter since no one really would be interested in a vegan donut. Right? Wrong. I walked up to their stand at 8:20am and spent the next 45 minutes in line. The poor guy running the stand was by himself and needing to fill orders that were coming in for two or three dozen boxes of donuts. From what he said, he hadn’t even had the chance to unload his donuts into the glass case before people came up and started ordering. National Donut Day brings on the enthusiasts, apparently. After having a fair amount of time to research on what to get, I decided to go with a half dozen and share with my co-workers. I had the Earl Grey, Green Tea, Strawberry, Blueberry, and Salted Caramel donuts. In sampling all of them, the Strawberry and Earl Grey were my favorites, with the Blueberry coming in a close second. I didn’t get a strong tea taste in the Green Tea, and the Salted Caramel didn’t taste quite right. I’m a fan of the«cake» donut since I enjoy a more dense cake when I’m eating a donut. Honestly, you wouldn’t really know that these are vegan! Alas, if only a vegan donut meant a healthier donut, I would be back here all the time. Delicious and absolutely worth the wait this morning!

Have you ever thought things to be impossible but then you’re proved wrong? Like, «this new Beyoncé song is soooooo dumb; I will never like it!!» But then you’re crazy in love with that song. That’s basically kinda what this is. I was all, «vegan, organic donuts? Stuuuupiiiid!» But I went there with my friend. We have similar attitudes towards things. We dream and deem things to be impossible and ‘dumb’. But we both bought salted caramel donuts… And were like, «no way.» It’s more of a cake donut texture. Heavier but still fluffy. The caramel flavor was pretty much spot on. Somehow buttery despite not having animal products. How? What kind of trickery is this? It’s not a donut«replacement» for me. It’s more of a different kind of treat. A treat that I can somehow validate because it has two health-related buzzwords.

I’m not vegan, but when I saw these donuts at the Ferry Building, I was seriously curious. I would never have thought that these donuts were vegan! There were so many flavors present in the display window. So many choices and I wasn’t sure what I wanted because the flavors were so unique! They left a sampling of the salted caramel donut for people to try. I thought the donut was very moist and the salted caramel flavor was strong. But the one I ultimately bought was the Philz Coffee flavored donuts. I mean, it’s Philz. How can you resist, right? The inside of the donut was soft, a little cakey, and moist. Each bite is crumbly. And slightly sweet. The outer glaze has specks of coffee, so each bite is filled with the taste of coffee/expresso. I thought that the donut was very well made. I really can’t wait to come back and try some of their other flavors. The donuts are vegan and organic so it’s not cheap at anywhere between $ 2.50 to $ 3.50, but really, you can’t go wrong with these donuts.

At $ 3 a ring, they’re not cheap. But sometimes happiness is worth the price. All 100% vegan, Pebbles Donuts provides a sugary relief in the overflowing Ferry Building Marketplace. Plenty of flavors to choose from, including Vanilla, Chocolate Sprinkles, and Whiskey & Orange. They’re not too ‘cakey’ in my opinion, like the few other vegan donuts I could compare them to, like the ones at Whole Foods or at Psycho Donuts. Still light and fluffy, with just the right amount of chocolatey goodness!

3.5STARS for non-greasy fresh, unique tasting donuts! I’m typically not a huge fan of donuts(GASP!), because they’re greasy and oily tasting — hate the aftertaste — and usually covered in way too much sugar for my liking. Dynamo is still a bit too sweet and greasy for me. Pepples has created a donut minus the greasy aftertaste, and comes in a variety of unique flavors. * Oreo — I enjoyed the Oreo, while it didn’t taste much like anything except vanilla, it was good. * Lemon Poppyseed — Slightly tart but still very sweet. Prefer the mixed berry. * Mixed Berry — My favorite of all the flavors. * Coffee — Didn’t really taste the coffee, just tasted like vanilla glaze. They sell these for $ 3 at Philz on 24th, not all of the flavors are available obviously.

Dommage…
