Brian is awesome! Since moving to the Bay Area a year ago I’ve had my haircut at numerous places from barbers to salons. Never went back a second time to any. My fiancé started going here and suggested I try it as she really liked it. I chose Brian and went to experience it today. Hadn’t had a haircut, out of frustration and dissatisfaction, in a few months. He crushed it! Gave me exactly what I was looking for. Super cool guy that I paralleled a lot with over love of classic cars and motorcycles. His graphic design background definitely shines through in his work and, I think, gives him an edge over many. Definitely recommend the salon and Brian for a great guys haircut. He listens to what you are looking for and delivers! I gave him a rough idea of what I wanted and told him to do his thing. 110% satisfied. Definitely will be back in his chair!

So disappointed… never ever coming back here again! If you need a consistent and dependable hair stylist, avoid David Holt at all costs.
Around April 2015, David cut beautiful long layers into my hair (which is naturally thick, soft, and straight with a wave). I would constantly get compliments on the style and placement of the layers everywhere I went.
Since that last visit with David, I had grown my hair out to a very long length (almost touching my bottom). I decided it was time to freshen things up and headed over to ORO Salon about 2 weeks ago. Impressed by David’s previous hair styling work, I had booked him again. I wanted to retain the same layers, just at a shorter overall length. I explicitly told David this and let him know that I wanted to keep the long layers like he had created last time.
Sadly, David didn’t seem to absorb anything that I said, and he also seemed to be in a rush to go on a mid-​afternoon lunch break. He took little time and little care in executing his work on my hair. He haphazardly hacked away, scissoring straight across. After a subpar blowout, where he roughly yanked at any tangles he came across, causing breakage, he then whipped out some thinning shears and chopped randomly all over my hair while it was dry. At this time, I wasn’t aware of what thinning shears were, until I looked it up later. Had I known that it’s the exact same thing as taking a razor to your hair, I would have stopped him dead in his tracks.
The end result was disastrous. I literally look like I have hay straw for hair. There are absolutely no layers and no style. The natural shape and movement of my hair has been lost. Now when I air dry it, my hair falls flat against my head into pin straight spiky straws with pieces above my ear randomly sticking out due to his thinning shears. My hair has been destroyed and damaged, and it looks like it was cut by someone who has never gotten training.
David, if you were in a rush to go eat, I wish you would have just done that first. Also, you did not replicate what I had requested. I am absolutely devastated and will have to spend a year growing out this disaster until I can get it cut properly.
Bye bye forever Salon ORO, formerly know as Salon Miel. $ 84 for this??? No thank you!

I had a not so great experience here. I came to get my balayage lightened by Aubrey, but instead of doing what I asked, she basically dyed my whole head light brown. When I came to get it fixed, she charged me again!!! I was so upset.

Had Giselle work some magic on my hair today! I’ve been going to her for years and have never had anything but an amazing experience! She’s the best!

Had an awesome experience yesterday with Hector. My hair was super damaged and long in all the wrong places. Hector cleaned it up really nicely, it’s lighter, bouncy, and already feels miles healthier. And it looks good!
Hector was so nice to talk to as well — I was super nosy about all his celebrity clients in LA and his work doing TV hair on set. He also gave me a ton of haircare info and instructions, and his email address in case I have questions.
I’ll definitely be back. Thanks!!!

Giselle was fantastic! Not-​so-​sunny SF has turned my dirty blonde hair into a boring brown-​ish color, so I decided to splurge on a balayage. I’m always hesitant to get my hair colored — I’m low maintenance and don’t want something that requires a lot of upkeep or looks too unnatural — but Giselle did it PERFECTLY. It’s lighter in all the right areas and still looks so natural. She listened to what I wanted and added her professional input. She did a great job on the cut, too. She clearly knows hair very well. Plus, she was very easy-​going and easy to talk to. I just wish I could afford to go more often!

Aubrey is the best at both color and cuts! When I moved out of the city I decided to try another salon near me out of laziness. I left with streaky orange hair. I immediately knew I had to go back to Aubrey. She corrected the orange and I left the salon with beautiful caramel-​brown balayaged hair! I won’t be going anywhere else again.

Giselle does great balayage! She has an eye for color and is super friendly. :)

David Holt = 5++ stars. Fantastic, solid women’s haircut each time I’ve seen him over the last 3 years. My office used to be down the street — but since I’ve changed jobs (and David books out well in advance) I have had to visit other salons out of convenience. I regret it each time I do! David listens to exactly what you want — and is a true professional in every way. He is thorough, and gives me a haircut I can maintain with ease. He’s well worth booking in advance. Cannot recommend him enough!

I loved my stylist Giselle. She did an amazing job. The salon is great and I will come here again :)

Aubrey is AMAZING. I’ve had a lot of hairstylists over the years, and she is hands down the best. When I moved back to SF from LA two years ago, I was nervous about finding a new stylist. I am so grateful I found Aubrey. She understands my hair and always listens to my requests thoughtfully. Never have I received so many complements on my haircut! Nearly every day someone tells me how much they love my hair. Thanks, Aubrey! Not only is Aubrey a great stylist, but she’s also a complete joy to hang out with with. :)
ORO Salon is a pretty space that feels relaxed and intimate. The location is great, and the front desk staff is super friendly and helpful. They also have a wonderful selection of product!

(This is my first review! That’s how passionate I am about spreading the gospel of Jarr and Oro! Take note, readers.)
I’ve been seeing Jarr since I was a wee fourteen year old (this year is our ten year anniversary!) – I scrimped and saved to get a micro-​makeover for freshman year of high school. He took a curly Jewish mop and somehow made me look presentable while keeping my curls alive. Over the years, he’s dealt with my BS hair care (DIY hair dye, cutting my own bangs, flat ironing at 500º every day… yeesh!) and never complained once. I’ve gotten the pleasure of seeing him grow so much: from employee to chair owner to salon owner! He’s an amazing person, a true role model, and I couldn’t even begin to capture his raw talent and vision in a simple review.
Plus he brought me from Garnier’s «almost black» to brilliant, silky, healthy platinum blonde in three sessions. Scary good skills.
Oh! And his dog is adorable. Salchicho for president!

I think I caught Jarr on a bad day. This was my first visit to ORO, and while everyone there was lovely to me, I got a bad haircut — plain and simple. I can see how others who have a longstanding relationship with him may get better results, but my cut was nowhere near good enough to justify returning to try to fix.
I used pictures as examples, but when I tried to explain my hair texture and styling preferences in an effort to make sure that my cut goals would work for my hair, Jarr tended to interrupt and give counter arguments and didn’t seem to understand/​believe the statements I made about my hair’s behavior. I decided to trust him since, after all, he owns the salon, just let go of control and allow an expert to make my hair decisions for me for once. It didn’t work out so well. I asked for a softly layered shoulder-​length style that would relieve weight from my ends to take advantage of my natural waves, but I got a blunt lob that air-​dries poorly and makes the least of my natural texture. As it’s grown out (I’m 6 weeks out) it’s gotten worse, and I’ve spent at least 75% of the last month in a ponytail.
I think he knows how to cut hair well, he’s just missing the ability to really listen and take seriously the input of his clients (or at least me).

Just got the most amazing haircut from Giselle! It had been a while since my last cut and I was dying so get it shaped up. Giselle is a true master stylist. She listened to what I wanted and in no time she turned my shabby shoulder length hair into a classy bob. I highly recommend Giselle if you want someone to work wonders on your hair!

About 3 years ago whilst in north beach, I saw a girl jogging who had hair similar to mine only 100x more spectacular. I flagged her down and asked her where she got her hair done. She gave me Amanda’s name and I have been going to her ever since!
I love this salon and don’t plan ever on going to another. When Amanda was on maternity leave, I got services from other staff and was totally satisfied. I would trust anyone in Oro with my or my friends hair.
Amanda is primo for curly hair and does amazing with all color (though I personally prefer blonde). I have and will continue to recommend Oro to anyone searching.

I’ve been going Jarr for years and he is the absolute best! So exciting he just opened his new salon ORO, which I went to for the first time this weekend and absolutely love it. Perfect location, great vibe and all around fun atmosphere. Having tried so many different salons and stylists in the city, my good friend referred me to Jarr about 4 years ago and I’ve never been happier with my hair. I always look forward to my appointments and have never left his salon disappointed.
I would consider myself pretty adventurous with my hair and Jarr has always been super supportive and has helped to steer me in the right direction. He’s transitioned my hair from platinum blonde to dark brunette to hombre, with short sassy cuts, long layers and everything in between. Currently he’s helping me grow out my natural hair color while keeping it fun and fresh with subtle blonde highlights, which I think may be my favorite look so far.
Jarr has a natural talent with hair and I can always count on him to be honest with me about my (sometimes extreme) ideas and what will look best as far as cut and color. I trust him 100% with my hair and would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an amazing stylist and all around great person :)

David Holt is amazing. Basically exactly what the other reviewers have been saying which is why I tried going to him in the first place. He was always busy though and so I ended up getting 2 – 3 haircuts before I came back and none of the other places (found via Unilocal and great reviews) were memorable and I’d go back to putting my hair in a pony tail.
I got a haircut last week and then did color hair painted balayage to get sort of an ombré look. Took 3 hours and he stayed extra late for me (as I started at 7pm) and the results are awesome. it’s been 1.5 days and people keep asking me where I went.
This might have been the first time a stylist showed me a pinterest board and told me what he was going to do and it turned out exactly the way he said it would look but so much better execution that I expected.

They moved from
to Oro but are in the same location. David Holt is still fabulous and cutting my hair and coloring it. I think the only changed is now I’ve started asking who his personal trainer is and how to get in shape.haha.
This is such a fun place to go and see how everyone’s hair turns out in general. I loved people watching while getting my balayage and am really impressed with the quality of work here. I just got my hair cut and highlighted before my wedding later this month and I think I am more excited by the hair than my dress or anything else (haha no kidding).

I have been following Jarr for a few years now. He is the best hair stylist I’ve had. He is very knowledgeable about hair along with current affairs. I have had keratin, blow drys and hair cuts from him and loved every service — his blow drys can last for days without the need for dry shampoos :) highly recommended and the new location is very convenient with a parking garage in the same block.

Can’t tell you how AMAZING Jarr is at his craft! I am SUPER picky with who I trust my hair with and I’ve been with Jarr for over 3 years now. I always leave my sessions with him looking and feeling beautiful! I would recommend him to anyone that loves their hair!
