I thought this OTG spot would be permanent, but it’s a no-go. Location was good for folks along that section of the waterfront leading to the Levi Strauss Plaza, where food selection is not aplenty. There are remnants of a few food trucks along Battery(BBQ and a soup truck… forgot the names; oh and a cupcake one?) I’m rambling… it’s late.

Right when one Off The Grid closes on the Embarcadero Waterfront(at OTG Justin Herman Plaza), another one pops right back up over at the America’s Cup store on Pier 29. This OTG is another temporary site and features 2 – 3 trucks twice a week for lunch on Thursdays and Saturdays. The big plus here is being open on Saturdays so that folks like me that work outside SF can stop over for lunch. When I came by Pizza Del Popolo and Sam’s Chowdermobile were there. There were plenty of seats and the weather was nice for some good al fresco dining. Like Luis C., I also hope that they keep this around when the actual America’s Cup competition takes place later this year. It’s a welcome food alternative to all the pricey food spots along the Embarcadero. Check it out while you can!

OTG: Pier 29 Organizer website: Hours: Thursdays and Saturdays, 11am-2pm(temporary, 2 months only) 4 food trucks No mistake, it’s not 39. It’s on Pier twenty-nine. Last week, OTG added a new temporary lunch stop location, twice weekly feeding construction workers and sailing crews, plus random tourists curious about the upcoming 2013 America’s Cup events. Today was a nice sunny day on the Bay, not windy, and the forecast for the rest of the week should be the same. The food trucks park next to the temporary Team Oracle’s red shipping containers, America’s Cup souvenir and clothing store by Puma, which replaced Teatro Zinzani(who relocated half a mile down to Embarcadero and Broadway, just 3 blocks from the Ferry building). Piers 27 and 29 will be home to «America’s Cup Park»(under construction, to be completed by end of February). The public and corporate patrons(inside private catered chalets) will get waterfront views of the sailing race finish line, during the Louis Vuitton Cup coming in July-August 2013, and the sailing competition finals in Sept. 2013. It’s a great idea to add food trucks here, because there’s not many other dining options in this area along the Embarcadero. Hillstone and Butterfly restaurants can be found a few blocks north. And further south, u can see Pier 23 Café, Fog City Diner, and the Levi Plaza area. I hope the sailing organizers invite the food trucks to stay longer than just the first 2 months of 2013. Muni F line stops right in front of Pier 29, at Chestnut and The Embarcadero. My reviews of each food truck are posted separately. ** Update for mid-2013: This temporary location is now CLOSED.
