Native Sons has become the bar that I hold all brisket to and no one has topped them yet. The meat is so tender you never need a knife. Perfectly smoked and always paired with great sides. Sometimes they’ll do Short Ribs, so you’ll want to go early because they don’t make a large batch. Yes, they run out. I’m drooling just thinking about their food. You have to go.

I never thought the Bay Area would produce a brisket that could compete with the Texas wonders chronicled by Daniel Vaughn. But these guys pulled it off and then some. They put a minimalist rub on prime beef and then slow smoke it in small batches with oak… Chez Panisse meets Austin. Seek them out.

The best brisket in town. Can’t wait until they get their ‘bricks and mortar’. Meanwhile, I will just keep checking to see where they pop up next. Very tasty sides, as well. As forewarned, by the time I got there, at 7PM, the beef ribs were sold out, and there were only 8 servings of the brisket left. I should have ordered all 8, and had Happy Eating for a full week! No sauce required, nothing could enhance the flavor of their smokey substance.

Your mouth will be watering before you walk through the door; the delicious smokey scent will awaken your desire for BBQ. You can tell from the bark and smoke ring on the meat that Sons know what they’re doing. I never use their barbecue sauce. Though the sauce is delicious, the meat is so perfect and full flavored it doesn’t need anything added. The crew is always friendly and never disappoint. This time I had their beef rib(s) which was more than I bargained for in size and flavor. I’ve also had their turkey legs and beef brisket but my all time favorite is between the beef rib I had tonight and their pork ribs. This is a must try if you’re a lover of BBQ.

I’ve been to several Native Sons BBQ pop ups and I must say they get better every time. Marv and his crew know their BBQ and sides. They go through great lengths to prep and smoke their meats in the wee hours of the morning. Their usual sides are beans and cole slaw and have recently added desserts. Pros: Best BBQ this side of Texas Cons: They sell out quick Bottom line: Come early and be satisfied
