Fantastic buffet above the lobby in the Marriott Marquis in Union Square. Breads, cereals, hot foods and custom omelettes made this a very convenient food choice. Little on the spendy side but hey, it’s the city.

********************* 1207 ********************** Stayed at the Marriot Marquis for the SamSung Developer Conference. I got to dine here for breakfast a few times. Mission Grille opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dining room is spacious, comfortable chair and table, spotless floor, fresh flowers, warm, modern and invinting. It’s only $ 25 buffet style. I don’t do well with buffet, but the selection is amazing. I can’t wait to come back here just for the breakfast!

I came here twice, not for the breakfast, but for these small cakes that look like mini-bundt cakes with a touch of beeswax and honey that were perfectly dense, chewy, airy, and moist in a brown crunchy-ish shell not dissimilar in taste to crème brûlée. Holy crap. I wish I’d taken a moment to ask the chef what it was because YUMMY! I even took some– okay, several– in napkins to share with my coworkers because I couldn’t just have the experience of that to myself. So. Food, unremarkable but good. I like that they offered congee! The waitstaff was perfunctory: good, friendly enough. The chef was a very nice lady who I’m pretty sure if I’d had the forethought to ask, would’ve given me the recipe. Maybe not, but I should’ve tried. It’s expensive though! They definitely know that everyone eating here is on a business card. But I’m still giving them four stars for those cakes alone. Mmm-mm.

We just finished doing breakfast here. The staff isn’t pleasant in the least. Breakfast buffet is $ 25/person. Hardly any selection outside of fruit, there was a lot of different fruits… Omelette bar, just your basic breakfast. Nothing nice or great to write home about. I’ve had better better breakfast buffets in Vegas for the $ 12 price range!

I am attending a conference in the hotel and even though I live in the city I had never been here. The menu is small but has everything you could want. We came at lunch time around 1115 and the place was pretty empty but that means we could be seated quickly and waited on quickly. The service was great… my husband ordered a coke and he said«Pepsi ok» and my husband kind of paused and was like«maybe Dr. Pepper or something» and the waiter said«never mind» and went to get our drinks. I am not sure where he had to go to get coke but he brought it back and it was definitely Coca-Cola. Our waiter was very pleasant and took our order fast and had the food out quite quick too. Everything we ordered was yummy. My husband had a BLT add avocado and it came with a side of their homemade chips. He said it was great. The bread was toasted and warm and the ingredients were piled high and fresh. I had the«greens» appetizer salad which had some mixed greens, grapes, feta cheese, prosciutto, and a vinaigrette dressing of some sort. It was very very good! And it was full size for being an app. I also ordered the Mission Trio which consisted of fresh, warm pita bread and three types of hummus/spreads. I did not need that with how big the salad was but it was always very good. I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews. The place is good overall… not sure about other times but when we went it was. The price is not cheap but isn’t crazy expensive for the area. It is in a hotel and not great views, which is why I bring it down a star, but the food is good. I would come again.

I was here last week with my husband; he was attending a conference in the hotel. We arrived from the airport and had just enough time to grab lunch before he had to attend his first session. We found the Mission Grille and headed in, and spotted some of his co-workers there as well and were able to join their table. I had the Caprese Panini(or whatever is closest to that on the menu) and O.M.G. that thing was amazing! The home-made potato chips? So amazing that I took the other half of his and mine back to the room with me which proved to be a valuable snack over the next couple of days. On our way out a couple of days later we popped in again for lunch. We had just missed breakfast, grr! Lunch again, not too many options there. I ordered the same sandwich and wasn’t nearly as good, which really bummed me out. I ended up just picking it apart and eating the mozzarella and tomatoes and such separate. I had the fries this time and they were pretty awesome. If I’d written the review just after the first one it would have been 4 or 5 stars, but the second time really bummed me out. Plus I never got to try breakfast there and it’s a pretty limited menu as far as eating here more than once.

$ 25 for the breakfast buffet — thank goodness we had free vouchers(courtesy of a friend)! It was pretty pricey, but considering that it’s located in one of the nicer hotels in the heart of downtown SF, it’s no surprise. Here’s the rundown of the food available: Hot food: –scrambled eggs –smoked bacon –breakfast potatoes Breakfast bread station: –banana bread –blueberry muffins –raisin bran muffins –apple streusel –an assortment of scones –croissants(regular and chocolate) –variety of breads to make toast –bagels Fruit station: –pineapple –strawberries –watermelon –cantaloupe –honeydew –whole fruits(apples, bananas, pears, etc.) Omelets made to order Yogurt parfaits and regular yogurt Oatmeal Cold cereals and milk Smoked salmon and capers The staff was very friendly and helpful, ensuring we had everything we wanted, without being overly attentive! I guess it’s a good option if you’re staying at the hotel and are either in a rush or just like the convenience of breakfast at your hotel.

$ 18 for pancakes? Really? You can tell who this restaurant caters to… the business folks with corporate cards. Pancakes were OK, OJ was good, coffee was strong. Buffet seemed to be the best deal at $ 25. $ 56 for breakfast for 2. I’m glad I wasn’t paying for it.

Ah, the old ‘convention’ hotel. $ 22 for breakfast and $ 15 a day for wireless internet. I should have done more research because there was a courtyard a few streets away but they bumped me up to a suite here so I can’t complain. The food is actually pretty good for typical breakfast fare. It’s not as greasy as you find at the breakfast chains. That said, it’s simply not worth it unless you’re on an expense account. Mel’s Drive-In and Denny’s are a half a block away and half the price.

This review is only for the breakfast, since this was the only place that was close enough to grab something hot and quick before the start of my work day. Although the food that you can get here is average, the prices are ridiculous! Are they seriously going to serve two eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns for $ 19!!! Are they on crack? I mean come one — I know this is hotel breakfast so you can charge a bit more — but $ 19 — really? I tried to be a little less expensive and get a side of two eggs and a side of bacon and that still ran me $ 12. The eggs were $ 5 and the bacon was $ 7. WOW! Talk about taking advantage of your customers. And it’s not like it was that great. The eggs were a little greasy. The bacon was nice and crispy; not overly greasy like some places. The décor was okay. The staff was not friendly, but not mean. They were just going through the motions of doing their job. Next time I will need to get up a little earlier and see what else I can find out there for breakfast in San Francisco.

I can only rate this place on their breakfast, which I only go to right after a dentist appointment. It’s your standard hotel breakfast buffet, at a decent price of $ 19. You get all you can eat, with an omelet and waffle station. The rest of it is just average, but who can complain about all you can eat BACON! Of course I try to limit that and offset the bacon with some sausage. Just above average, but since there’s not much in the area for breakfast, it’s OK, but I won’t go out of my way.

Not worth the $$$. Came for a work-related breakfast so I didn’t have to pay. I had the buffet, and yes its $ 20. The buffet had a good amount of items: pastries, cereal, oatmeal, omelets, meat, eggs, etc. The food just didn’t stand out and was pricey for ‘hotel’ food. Find a locally owned breakfast place.

Stayed in the City with my husband this weekend to celebrate my birthday. We spent the day«celebrating» at Lou’s Blues and I was starving! We were going to just head back to the hotel to change and go back out when we called around for reservations anywhere and were told that most resturants were booked. Soo, we opted to eat at the Mission Steak House right in the hotel. No wait at all so I was happy. The resturant itself is nothing special at all. The service was great. I ordered the French onion soup which was actually really good. My husband ordered a shrimp salad with green goddess dressing. It was refreshing but nothing to right home about. We both order the filet(med rare). I asked for the gratin and spinach and hubby got the asparagus and potato salad. Our steaks were terrible! For a steak house we were VERY disappointed. Our steaks were dry and unseasoned. Neither of us even ate much of the meat. Bill was over $ 100 and so so so not worth it. I will never come back here. This gets a star only for the service and the soup. The rest of the food was yuck.

Before I describe the food, you must know that this is a restaurant in a Marriott that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I decided to eat here because it was late and convenient. Upon arriving at the entrance the hostess informed that there was not a lounge — never been to a steakhouse sans-lounge. They said that the same menu was available in the lobby bar. It took some convincing to get the bartenders to show me the Mission Steak menu(they wanted me to order off of the bar menu) The bone in filet was tasty but a thin cut. Left full and satisfied but not«wowed»

This rating would be at least a 4 star if the service were better. But it wasn’t. We pulled up to the Marriott after traffic off the freeway was far worse than necessary, and some dude directed us to valet, which was an additional 4 blocks of meandering to get to the other side of the hotel. When we get there, we literally sit in the same spot for 15 minutes. Giving up, we finally self-park and when we walk in, we see that there’s all of TEN valet spots, and really, they were just waiting for people to claim their cars before valet parking the other ones? Isn’t valet supposed to save you TIME?! OK, so that has very little to do with the restaurant, but it has to do with the EXPERIENCE, and it definitely marred it a bit. What’s good: The filet mignon and the NY steak are perfectly acceptable, if not mouth-watering. The sauces that they offer are quite delicious, and I had a swell time dipping my shoestring fries(yummy!) in them. Their drinks are also good, but they have to go up and down the escalators to the bar to retrieve them, and this resulted in unhappy waiting. Dessert was fantastic, a treat for the eyes as well as the mouth. All and all, it was pleasant, and I got a yellow spider mum after dinner because it was Valentine’s Day. Tables were spaced out nicely, but the ridiculous parking experience and the slow service brought this out to a 3 star — the food wasn’t THAT good.

For New Year’s Eve, I chose Mission Steak to host our big group dinner before heading over to the Embarcadero for fireworks. I originally had other places in mind but many of my top choices were booked for NYE. I found this place on and although the menu was to our liking, I was nervous because of how few reviews there were. Whatever reviews that were available, however, mentioned that this place was good, if not great. So I kept an open mind and crossed my fingers that everyone would enjoy their courses(we have some picky steak eaters in the group). The restaurant is inside the Marriott and up the escalator to your right. The dining area is spacious and tables/booths were positioned far apart so that you do not feel cramped at all. The atmosphere is contemporary, not uptight. Our server was very attentive, and quick with any questions and needs we had. Upon sitting, we were served sweet butter and bread. The bread was good, and this is going to come off as picky(it’s complimentary bread and butter afterall) but I don’t think anyone at our table liked the sweet butter, so we requested regular butter. Let’s say that oddly, we weren’t fans of the regular butter either but the staff was very generous in fulfilling our request for the regular butter. Anyway, on the more important stuff — for main courses, our group had: Bone-In Filet Mignon Grass-Fed Filet Mignon 28-day Dry Aged New York Bone-In Rib Eye Kobe Short Ribs Scallops Everyone was pretty happy with their steaks and there were no complaints, which is absolutely rare in our group. The only raised eyebrow we had was that the Kobe Short Ribs looked and tasted like pulled pork, and even though it was a good sized portion and was tasty, I guess we were expecting something else. With wine, appetizers and sides, our total came out to be about a little more than $ 100 per couple with tax and gratuity. Overall, I think it was a great venue for our group dinner. It’s hard to satisfy 8 people with picky steak taste buds but everyone really enjoyed their dinner. On the way out, we visited The View, the bar on the 39th Floor(but they were collecting cover charge) so we went down to Bin 55, the lounge on the main floor for drinks.

I am so glad there are now 2 positive reviews for this AMAZING steak restaurant. First of all, the food was exceptional. I recommend the Kobe Beef or the filet. The honey butter and bread was divine as was the wine butter! The coffee was unbelievable and the organic green salad… mouthwatering. However, topping the food… was the service. Best service I’ve received. The server anticipated our needs, was very good at wine recommendations, and was positive and accomodating(even though we had 2 kids). Loved it. Will go back in a heartbeat when I’m in town!!!

Everything I have tried — 3 lunches in a row — was delicious & nicely done. The Steak Quesadilla, with Monterey jalapeño Jack Cheese was so worth the money, $ 14. The strip steak style stuffing was tender, juicy, perfectly done. The Signature Steak Sandwich has the option of green salad, to compliment the nice cut & flavor of the steak. I was also pleasantly surprised by the flavor design of the simple Cheese Plate: Asiago, Humboldt Fog, and American Cheddar, with almonds, dried cherries, round-cut toasts, and the visually beautiful, crystal-like honey! Oh, yes, if you like Clam Chowder, you will definitely enjoy the wholesome ingredients and the density that is just right!
