Once one of my favorite local stores to buy lottery tickets and snacks, it’s become really scary trying to get into the store. It’s really well merchandised inside and the staff is friendly, but over the last several months, there has been a marked increase in people loitering outside the store who seem to be partaking in illegal activities(drug dealing) during business hours and well into the night. In the morning, homeless people always camp out in the doorway. Wish the owner of the store would work with the Tenderloin Police to get this taken care of as it’s on a great block in the Tenderloin.

Great place to go to when you need almost anything, drugs, guns, prostitutes, alcohol. Just step right outside and all the guys staying around sell everything. You wanna get robbed? Just walk by with phone and they will punch you and take it. They don’t even run because they all work together. The owner sometimes has personal things such as an old sweater or jacket that he doesn’t need and he puts it up for sale. Typical junk food in every shelve. The hours are typical about 10am. But stay open late, usually at least 2am, sometimes 6am! It is a cash only store, but there is a ATM right outside.

Got a big box of organic«morning-o’s» and two bananas for under $ 5! I usually pay over $ 5 for JUST a small box of Cheerios at other stores. And the woman was very nice!

I live like 10 feet from this store and I love it. It’s really cheap, and there’s a unique variety of food in here. I usually just go in for cigarettes or soda, but if you go to the back there’s candy from Europe. I tried the rice chocolate and it was so good! The owner here is really nice. He always offers candy or coffee when I buy something, and is always joking around. It’s a rough part of the city and a lot of people working at the markets around here can be kind of rude(which is understandable), but he always has a smile on his face. The fact that he stays open until 2 – 4 am depending on the night is great too!

Mirex is my favorite local convenience store to visit in the Tenderloin! It is a very clean and well kept store that is amazingly stocked with recognizable goods and European specialty items that will salivate your taste buds! Everything is reasonably priced for a joint in San Francisco and every time I go there I am warmly greeted and have some great conversations with the owner, who is really professional and knows how to provide great customer service!(Which is a rare breed these days). My only gripe is that I can’t spend more money there because he accepts cash only and my bank is out of the way and I rarely carry cash on me, but I’ve started carrying more cash so I can purchase more tasty delicatessens from Mirex!

Here’s a great little convenience store in the Loin. A little gem in an otherwise not-so-great location(on O’Farrell, between Larkin and Hyde). The thing that caught my eye was their very high quality produce, at pretty cheap prices, outside the store. You’re walking by bars, massage parlors and strip clubs– and suddenly you’re looking at these beautiful tomatoes and lemons that are better looking than those at Whole Foods and cost less than half the price. The other thing I love about this place is the owner– he is so polite and appreciative of your business. You can be just buying a single lemon and the guy thanks you like you just spent major dollars(and it’s sincere). When I googled the store to get contact information for this review– all I found was one reference to a recent city health inspection, and they had a perfect score of 100! Anyway, I asked the guy how late he’s open at night and he said until 2:00 am– maybe later on weekends. Anyway, I’m going to start going there more– it’s places like this that really deserve our business and help make the neighborhood a better place to live.
