This place has been a favorite for me in the past but I think the prices do not match the meal at this point

Love this place! Great staff, great breakfast. High praise for two breakfast offerings: ‘The Brooklyn’ and ‘The Portland’. For lunch ‘The Chief’ and the pizza fries rock! It’s usually not too difficult to get a table without much of a wait, which is a rarity anywhere in SF. The manager and his crew do an amazing job of juggling the phone orders, register and tables with extreme efficiency.

Call millers the night prior to coming in and ask if they’re open at 8am as their hours state. The man on the phones assures me they’re open at 8 and are ready for business. I ask are you sure they’ll be serving food at 8? He says oh yes! The kitchen comes in very early to prep. We’re here, open and ready, just come in tomorrow morning and place your order. So fast forward to the next morning. I come in at 8:15 needing to get an order to go. I’m not surprised when I find the front counter completely empty of staff. I hang out in the front and see that everyone’s in the back of the restaurant. A few crew members walk past me as I wait, I say hi, they nod and go about sweeping the front sidewalk. Finally I walk to the kitchen, mind you twenty minutes after 8 and ask the crew– ‘are you guys open?! They’re reply ‘nope not yet’. and they go back to hanging out. (Sigh)

Miller’s has an enormous menu, but given that this is an east coast deli I wanted to see how they handled a classic smoked salmon bagel. Spoiler alert: not that well. The everything bagel was dense and lacked toppings. The sandwich only came with two slices of smoked salmon. The sandwich toppings(tomato, lettuce, capers, onion) were fine, but to be fair those are pretty hard to mess up. All together the sandwich just didn’t really work. I’ve had a lot of smoked salmon bagels in my day, and this one was sadly below average. I might come back and give them another chance, but not a great first experience.

Among the fairly extensive menu, I settled on the Rachel(hot pastrami on rye, Russian dressing, sauerkraut, and cole slaw). Oh man, what a treat! I vowed to return and sample other items on the menu. Next visit, I got the Rachel again! It was too good to pass up! I hope I’ll have the fortitude to try something else on a follow up trip!

Update: Boyfriend from the east coast came with me. Sadly, this place does not pass muster. He deemed it as «bagel-shaped bread». He tried the corned beef that I ordered and said it wasn’t that great. It’s the first kind I’ve ever had, and I thought it was okay. But at least our orders were correct and our server was nice. On the upside, I tried an egg cream, which was bizarre. It was like a fizzy Yoo-Hoo. I probably won’t be coming back. Also, just read another review… this place was on Food Network? And why does the service seem to be so randomly distributed? Will I ever find a proper east coast bagel on this side of the US?

Food was amazing BUT customer service was even better. The food is very fresh and authentic. When we first got here they told us the food will take a little longer than usual which was so nice to be honest. Nathan was an awesome waiter. Great service, great food, awesome ambience.

I was less than impressed when I entered without a greeting. I said hello and had to repeat myself. The bathroom was a stinking mess and no toilet paper. It was quite a delay in even making an order for beverages. The waiter seemed bothered to take my order and with a four star rating on Unilocal and seeing this place on The Food Channel I had hoped for a lot more. I even explained I had come from nearly 300 miles away to include this place on my visit to San Francisco. I asked for the special and what was recommended only to get short one worded answers. We ordered a Pastrami Cheese Sub and a Chicken Cheese Sub but three people who ordered after us got their orders first. The fries were nasty and tasted like rancid grease. The sandwiches were rubbery and hardly any meat. Definitely not coming back !!!

As I write this review, I must confess I am a California transplant from New Jersey. It has been truly heartbreaking to be separated from my weekend breakfast food, Taylor Ham aka pork roll aka magic. So I must say, I truly LOVE the NJness of Miller’s. A real deal NJ diner vibe, and«the Jersey» sandwich is quite literally very representative of actual NJ breakfast food. A very nice taste of home, friendly service and a satisfying breakfast!

Ordered the Turkey Rueben and coleslaw w/a side of macaroni salad. The turkey was dry. So much so that I had to remove a couple slices. Can’t say they’re not generous w/meat though. The mac salad and coleslaw were delish. Perfectly cooked pasta and the slaw was creamy.

Roger, Houston, we have successful liftoff… Okay, so getting down to it, this is the best damn Reuben that I have had in my life. There is no way to describe the Deliciousness of this sandwich. The crispness of the buttered bread slightly charred on the grill, the gentle tang of the sauerkraut on my tongue mixed with the 1000-island sauce, and oh GAWD the smoking hot temperature of the freshly sliced Pastrami – yes I had the Rachel – all combined to create a flavorful explosion of hot tasty goodness in my mouth. And I liked it. And after the 7th chew, I rested and it was good. You need to try this place. Thank goodness I listened to the recommendation of my coworkers, as I was visiting the SF branch for Tech CU, and wasn’t telling them what I was looking to eat. I would not have come up with«yeah guys, I’m looking for a bomb ass Reuben sandwich that’ll change my world…» You. Will. Not. Regret. It. Do it now!

Unfortunately this was just average at best for me. The sandwich was tasty but nowhere close to worth $ 16 in my opinion. I could get an equally delicious and perhaps even bigger sandwich from Ike’s for $ 10 – 11. You do get tons of meat but maybe I am just not able to taste the difference if the meat is super high quality or something. The sides are also really small.

What does one do after a 3 hour walk? GRUB. I’m not sure if I like pastrami but my friends encouraged me to try it again. They said, «if you’re going to eat a pastrami sandwich, eat it here». Got here around 3ish on a Sunday, no line. Sweet. Got to the counter, the Rachel was on my mind but I ended up getting the roast beef dip :/There goes my opportunity of trying the pastrami. Roast Beef Dip– You know it’s good when the table next to you is eyeing your food then politely asks what it is. The meat was super tender, plentiful. Good with the dip, good on its own. Nice solid pickle on the side. Mac was okay. I’m coming back and I’m coming for you Rachel!

The service is always something carved from a Kevin Smith film without the acerbic wit or charm. Always with the bitchy bros running the counter. Recounting yesterday’s 3rd and last visit– Me: How much is the matzoh ball soup? Dick: A quart is $ 9. Me: Okay, how much is a pint? Dick: A pint is half a quart. Me:(thinking he means $ 4.50) Sure, I’ll have a pint then. (checks receipt) A pint was $ 7. Very cute Dick, I meant the COST. I am sick, disoriented, and in no mood. In any case, beyond décor there is nothing redolent of the East Coast here. I could tolerate the piss poor attitude, if their food was worth it.

I have only try millers east coast deli for about 4 or 5 times and it has always been the Budah. I remember 1st time my co-worker bring me here and the sandwich was very tasty. Each one of the ingredient did not over power other ingredients infact I was able to taste each ingredient seperately. but when the taste was all combine together it was the perfect sandwich, But it seems to me from the 2nd time going to miller’s till this time the sandwich somehow did’nt really taste like a sandwich. its kinda taste like a whole pile of crap stack up between a hoggie bun. the chicken liver did’nt taste like chicken liver the roast beef did;‘nt taste llike roast beef. Gosh I jusyt for once want a restaurant that can be consistence of what they make and is food that they r putting in peoples mouth. But as you know if u enjoyed it the 1st time go somewhere else and try different food other wise u will be disappointed.

Heads up to those reading this: Don’t even try to order the Hoboken breakfast sandwich. I’ve been here 3 times(over a 4 week period) and attempted to order a Hoboken, but all 3 times I’ve been told that they don’t have the ingredients to make it. OK. The first time I just ordered an egg and cheese and the other 2 times I left. To me it doesn’t make sense to advertise items that you don’t have and clearly don’t intend on buying.

East Coast meets Left Coast in this Jewish New York style Deli. I’d say not too shabby in the Matzo ball department, big baseball size fluffy balls in a tasty broth. I went for a classic lox and bagel plate always dee-lish. Hubster indulged in a «Rachel» a twist on a Rueben, with Pastrami and coleslaw on toasted rye with melted cheese. Looked bad ass… but way to large for my belly, so glad I stuck with the classic lox and Bagel. I should have tried the Gefilte fish because this is hard to find out here, and I truly miss the mondo size piece I can get at the 2nd Ave. Deli on 33rd. NYC. So I must check this out next time. But our food was pretty solid fare, and good service. So I’d head back when in need of some comfort NYC style deli, when I can’t hop on a plane and head East.

Simple authentic east coast deli. Latkes were great and were served with homemade apple sauce. My Ruben though visually impressive, was rather average. It also didn’t have the classic sauerkraut instead it had coleslaw. I was expecting a but more but in no way was I disappointed. Efficient friendly service and solid food.

Delicious food served by pleasant people makes everything better.(They even whipped up a chocolate phosphate at my request!) Lean corned beef, terrific fries and cole slaw, plus fabulous dill pickle spears made this a real treat. The rye bread here was okay, not the chewy rye/crunchy crust I am fond of though, also the matzoh ball in their delicious chicken soup was disappointingly bland. It’s funky in ambiance, but has a friendly neighborhood vibe that’s hard to ignore. I’m a fan.
