There are just some things that shouldn’t be made on trucks. Anything that requires intricacy in the mix of flavors I would say. Weapons of mass destruction maybe. I’m afraid I have to place ramen in that category. Maybe leaving the broth in a truck does something to dilute the richness or maybe someone spilled the gas in there. All I know was that I was at SoMa Streat Food Park and unfortunately had a hankering for ramen. I should have held onto it and gone to a real ramen house because what I had here was barely at a level comparable to a package of instant ramen where they forgot to put in the soup base. They offered four bowls here, all $ 11 — Shoyu, Shio, Miso and in an effort to be part of the hip crowd, Tsukemen(photo: ). I tried the Miso thinking the soybean paste would thicken the flavor of the broth. It didn’t. It was watery in a serving that might be more appropriate as part of a pre-school lunch program. The noodles lacked oomph as well. The toppings were what made the bowl more bearable — bamboo shoots, fungus, green onion, chives sesame, shoga(shredded ginger), and in a surprisingly generous move, three large slices of pork(photo: ). Alas, my hard lesson here is that ramen shouldn’t come on wheels. FOOD — 2 stars… weak broth, even weaker noodles, what else matters? AMBIANCE — 2.5 stars… uhh, it;s a food truck SERVICE — 2.5 stars… not offensive, not memorable TOTAL — 2 stars… what a disappointment amid the trucks

Satisfying ramen that was good given that it is made in a food truck. The noodles gave a tug when I bit into them and the broth was super complex. The negatives were that it took a really long time to prepare and the broth could have been warmer in temperature. I tried the pork broth w/added steamed egg and would definitely get that again

Ate this ramen at the«Soma StrEat food», and got a great bowl of miso ramen, with good seasoning and delicous porchetta slices. wish I could try the pork broth ramen as well.

It was a decent bowl of ramen and the pork on top was nice. Yes, it cost more to have more pork but I always have them put on another piece or two. I love the egg too. I usually get two meals from a bowl.

Its certainly not the best ramen around nor the cheapest, but for ramen coming out of a food truck, its pretty darn good. I find myself eating this once a week. The shoyu ramen with the charsiu is the magic combo for me. I hate it when people complain about prices when it comes to food trucks. They’re all pricey. I’ve gotten small boxes of food for $ 13 but I understand thats the costs and convenience of getting lunch off a truck and I have no problems with it.

Pretty nifty ramen food truck For a food truck, this place is actually decent. I half expected some instant ramen or dry, stale meat – I was pleasantly surprise when they served a bowl of ramen with actual warm soup that isn’t too hot for the sunny weather! The broth was pretty thick, which was also unexpectedly nice. The meat slices were pretty thick, the egg tasted pretty fresh, and the noodles are what I would expect at a sit-in restaurant – decent quality stuff. The only downside is that the prices is pretty high for a food truck(~$ 10 for a bowl or ramen). Otherwise, the place is actually pretty decent, especially given how most other food trucks stick to easy small bites stuff like tacos, sandwiches, finger foods etc. This ramen truck actually went the hard route and tried to serve ramen, which is usually only available at restaurants. Kudos! Definitely worth visiting again.

Surprisingly good Ramen! The broth was very tasty and had a spicy kick to it. I would definitely get food from their truck again.

Disappointing broth. The noodles are decent but the portions are small. I had the miso ramen with kimchee for $ 12. Way overpriced for what you get. I would avoid this truck. Yeah you might have to wait a good long while at an authentic ramen shop, but it’ll be worth it and it will cost just as much.

I feel that food trucks are given a lot of leeway in delivering quality meals. As far as ramen is concerned, the taste was not authentic ramen. I had the veggie miso ramen. The soup was way too spicy. I should have been tipped off by the side of sriracha sauce(that I didn’t use). So spicy it could not be sipped by itself. In general, ramen and Japanese food overall are not spicy. And the noodles were quite thick and seemed to be overcooked. And it was quite expensive at $ 11 for a relatively small portion — smaller than you’d get at a restaurant. I’ve included 2 pics. One is the veggie with very little toppings. The other is tonkotsu which looked a lot better. If you’re looking for authentic ramen I would not recommend this place. If you like spicy noodles that look like ramen then feel free to give it a try.

I had the miso ramen at their recommendation. Broth flavor was good, egg was good, noodles were fine, toppings were fine. The most important thing for noodle soup is that it should be hot! It was warm and I ate it right away. Lukewarm temperature, lukewarm ramen.

You can’t ask for better ramen out of a food truck! That, and they have a veggie option! The veggie miso ramen was SO flavorful and loaded with veggies! Add an egg for protein, and you’re set. What a delicious meal!

Had the ramen on a rainy weekend while at SOMA Streat Food Park. I was disappointed! The ramen looked so good, and it looked like would be promising. It was lacking in flavor, it was muted, and it was well underwhelming. I think the only flavor profile I could taste was salt, where was the umami??? The chasu was nice, and the noodles/ramen had a nice consistency. I was really not into the«pickled ginger» that was all over the place. I have yet to have ramen that had so much picked ginger, where I could not avoid it. Not my cup of tea.

Finally tried out the G Food Lounge a few weeks ago, and made the mistake of going on a day where they played host to mostly unknown food trucks, such as Lei Feng. Not feeling any of the other trucks(I rarely feel like eating non-Asian these days), I hazarded a try with these folks, ordering a pork katsu combo. And, well, aside from the miso soup, everything else was pretty mediocre. Every part of the combo, from the katsu to the rice to the sides, was a bit on the skimpy side, and the flavors were pretty lacking as well. And all this for a not-so-bargain price of $ 11? No thanks, I’d rather go get the curry katsu at, say, Muracci’s. As an aside, while they’re labeled as Japanese on Unilocal, they’re really more Chinese-style Japanese than traditional Japanese.

Lei Feng serves a limited menu of japanese eats: –appetitzers –salmon/tuna/tempera rolls –combos of above locale: soma street park(3⁄6) eats: karange appetitzers(5) –skipped combo of app, rice, salad, soup for $ 10 –fried chicken made with breast meat, tender but not juicy –fried pretty good, not overdone, teriyaki? sauce not so great, too sweet –nice dab of salad accompaniment with cherry tomato 3.5 stars notes: –menu a bit confusing –pictures didn’t have pricing, guessing combos are $ 10.
