Overpriced, flavorless, food network not accurate. This place will not take you to flavor town.

Amazing Mexican Diner food. Go here instead of the St. Francis fountain a few blocks down. Great service, strong coffee, tasty food and dim lighting. The tortas are amazing and so are the fresh made shakes.

Yum yum. Best al pastor in the Mission, service friendly. Tortas are huge. Tip to budding Messiahs: with five of their tortas, you probably could feed 5,000 people.

The husband and I stopped here for a quick bite in an otherwise difficult stretch of neighborhood to eat in. We were attending an event at the nearby Brava Theater and didn’t have a ton of time. I had snacked a lot beforehand, so I ordered the guacamole and chips. The guac was out of this world: good and fresh. Apparently this place had been recognized by the Food Network for having a phenomenal sandwich, which neither of us ordered, regrettably. I can’t recall exactly what the husband did order(I want to say some kind of taco), but he reported it was very good. On the tables were some homemade sauces: a red one that must have been chipotle and a green one that seemed to be mostly jalapeño and cilantro. I loved the green sauce. The chips were thin and perfect. They sell breakfast as well(there’s not a hangover in this world that chilaquiles cannot cure), which I am sure I will never be around to taste but looks great. The interior is pretty diner-y and small, but comfortable. Worth a stop if you’re nearby and hungry.

This Mexican here approves la torta cubana and la torta de tinga. I’ve had authentic ones in my life, but these are pretty good. Probably the best you can find in the mission.

Yet another place that I found from the«20 Epic Sandwiches to Eat Before you Die.» I had the Al Pastor Torta per the recommendation by the article. To be honest, I am not a fan of sweet and savory in the same sandwich(this sandwich had pork and pineapple), but wow, was it amazing! I have never had tortas before(ironic for a California native, especially one who loves his Mexican food, believe me, I know!), but after getting the Al Pastor, I came back here a number of times and got a different torta each time. I haven’t tried anything else, although the other dishes, especially the breakfast items, look amazing! The staff is also super friendly. Truly an authentic Mexican restaurant that represents this part of the Mission district!

Came in on a Friday afternoon to grab something quick to eat before my Uncle and I headed out to go hiking. We walked in and it wasn’t to packed but there were a few people in there. The service was quick and easy — I picked the carnitas torta and it was delicious! The only thing that was a little irritating was the jalapenos that were hidden in the flavorful carnitas but I picked them out, no biggie. The bread was nice and toasty too! If I’m ever in the area I’ll be sure to come back here then head over to the ice cream shop on the corner of the building.

All time favorite place when I want a Torta. I have to admit sometimes when I go I order two, one to eat there and one for home. The hot sauce is amazing, I definitely horde it and ask for extra when I’m on the go. They have juices that are freshly made. The vampiro is my fav, which is beets, orange, and something else I can’t remember. I’ve tried the champarrado, which is yum when it’s cold out and I’ve also tried brunch here, but this is always, always my go to when I’m in the area and want a torta-fix. Sometimes twice a week. If you haven’t tried it, it’s a must. I take everyone here when they visit. lol

Came with a very large group for lunch and sat outside. Nice tables in the back on a sunny day. Tortas are HUGE! Regular size is easily two meals. I had tacos and home fries which were both wonderful. Service was kind and gracious. No chips sadly but salsa on the table is flavorful. Prices are reasonable and menu is extensive.

We went to La Torta Gorda today for lunch. We went because it was listed as one of the top 38 essential restaurants in San Francisco. I got the carne asado torta and it was delicious. I recommend it to anybody who is confused about what to order on the menu. You won’t go wrong with this one. I was also hoping to drink a horchata that I saw in one of the pictures on Unilocal.Unfortunately, they do not serve horchatas. There were six in our group and from the moment we ordered until the moment we got our food we waited about 15 maybe 20 minutes. This is not gourmet dining so I was surprised it took so long. Do not go to this restaurant if you are low on time and need a quick meal. There is seating in the back for up to 20, 25 people. The staff is friendly and the guacamole is delicious. When you order, keep in mind that most tortas are good enough for two people to eat. I give this restaurant four stars simply because it took way too long to get our food.

Breakfast. Ordered an omellette — cardinal sin — they used cheese food instead of cheese(that kraft for those of you that dont know the difference) My breakfast mate ordered chilaquiles — very meh.

I’ve only tried three of their Tortas but all of them were painfully delicious. Actually I shamefully ate 2 ½ tortas during a shift at work when I brought them to share but they were forgotten. Best. Mistake. Ever. The cubana was good not best cubana I’ve had in the Mission but I give it a pass since I didn’t get the SUPER cubana which would’ve been more comparable to the huge monster tortas that That’s It Market made famous. If the super Cubana is bomb I’ll probaby make this 5 stars. I also got the Palmazo(?) which I’ve never tried before but I thought it was pretty good. had a bright red bread, loaded with chorizo and potatoes. Not my favorite carb on carb action but I enjoyed it and ate the hell out of it(Giggitty). My absolute favorite which I wasn’t expecting was the Raza con Queso. ITWASFREAKINGVEGETARIAN. I didn’t really order this one for me but it was my favorite, the grilled chile and cheese had a meaty texture and balanced the sandwich really well. One thing to note is DRENCH those tortas in their sauce without the sauce the tortas rest at 3 stars but saucing them up brings them up so much. Toss some meat on that Raza con Queso and I think these guys will have something magical.

I really had no idea what to expect. These lists of items to get always ends up being an adventure to say the least. Ordered a pierna enchilada on postmates(love being able to get delivery) and I definitely didn’t get what I expected. When I think of an enchilada, I think of a tortilla wrapped around a filling and drenched in a sauce… instead I got something that looked like a sandwich with sauce provided. Just so unexpected! I’m okay with pouring my own sauce, but it was SPICY! By the way, a junior is plenty for one person. I could have made that into two meals too if I hadn’t eaten it so late in the night so I was freaking hungry. Protip: get the junior size for a regular sized meal.

First time I ever tried this place was at a house party when the host ordered from them to cater the party. We even got to meet the owner that night and since then this place has been amazing. I love the pulled pork tostada that comes with avocado. I always order to go and enjoy at home. I pay $ 1 more for 3 more tostadas since 3 is never enough for the amount of meat they give you. It’s so delicious!

I went to a place called La TORTA Gorda and got Chilaquiles. #WellThatWasSilly Soggy tortilla chips will always dampen a chilaquiles food buzz even if they are topped with yummy things like runny eggs, cheese and avocado. Hubby ordered the Chorizo & Egg Torta and thoroughly enjoyed his brunch. (Mostly, because he was able to question my decision to NOT order a torta at a torta place as he chowed down.) #Touché

There are few times in life where a place is just so shockingly offensively perfect. Better than perfect. This is literally a 10 star breakfast place. Such a contrast to the average food and long lines at St Francis Fountain next door. They have a giant beautiful back patio in the sun. The breakfast was perfect. Best hashbrowns Ive had in my life. And it was completely empty in the patio area. Get wise San Francisco!

SPOILEDMEATALERT! This rating is based on the owner’s reaction to my complaint. Here’s what happened: I bought a «milanesa de res» torta. I take the first bite and the smell and taste of the meat was disgusting. As a former sever at a steakhouse, I know when meat has gone bad from 3 miles away. So I emailed the owner and he demands evidence. I emailed him back asking him what kind of evidence he’s looking for(this is 2 days ago) and I still haven’t heard back. I understand he might think someone is trying to hustle him. Then I realized this locale’s health score is 75. I will post pictures of the meat soon so he can believe me. Stay tune.

Some local friends brought me here for a very late breakfast after staying up to 4am drinking wine and catching up on old times. This is the perfect hangover food place. The small tortas are the way to go, as it’s already a lot of food. So, there’s your greasy hangover cure. Add a Mango Madness smoothie, and you get your sugar boost for the day. Those smoothies are HUGE. Finish it off with a cup of coffee and you’re ready to hit the town again.

We tried this place early on Friday evening. The place was nearly empty, not a good sign. We seated ourselves and very nice server took our order. We both ordered melon agua fresca. I ordered a junior carne asada torta while my partner ordered a junior torta cubana. The sandwiches came promptly and were hot. I liked my torta just fine although I have had better tortas at other places in the Mission District. My partner agreed. He said his torta was good, but he’s had better. Hard telling why the tortas were not better. Perhaps a little more seasoning would help.

After 26 hours of travelling and flights, a good nights sleep and a massive hunger the next day, there was only one thing going to satisfy my needs and that was a massive breakfast of homely, filling Mexican food. Staying with friends in the Mission district I did manage to bat away the idea that we should go for ‘modern Californian’ as I was in the mood for chilled out and getting very fat. And getting fat was what I did! This place is like a diner with a long service counter, probably seating for 50 and an outdoor patio. I’ve got to say that the Mexican on offer in SF is a billion times more varied and exciting than back home in Manchester(UK) and looking through the menu left me with more questions than answers. After a bit of help from my Cali friends and a bit of menu decoding later, I plumped for the black bean filled tacos with spicy sauce, avocado and 2 fried eggs. I have to say that this was probably one of the tastiest breakfasts I’ve ever had with the Mexican food being as authentic and spicy as I hoped and the fresh runny yellow eggs just running into all the stodge. Incredible food, incredibly satisfied — if I’m back down the mission then I’m going again!
