This has turned into my go-to sushi spot. Love Kazan!

Perfect place for omakase(chef’s choice)!! Start with side dishes and sashimi with fresh oyster, then rolls and finish with tacoyaki. 100 percent satisfied with cool food and service!

If you judged me by my Unilocal reviews, you might ask«Does this person do anything other than work in cafes and get her hair dyed?» Well, I have other hobbies as well. Like eating sushi. I’ve been to Kazan several times – friends, dates, everything. Location: Pretty convenient, I’m usually able to get seated quickly without a reservation. Kind of dark, which is annoying because how am I how supposed to practice my food photography skills. Price: Reasonable – not too pricey, not cheap. Taste: Great, I always get the Rainbow roll. They have good sashimi and sake as well. It’s not amazing sushi but it’s very solid. Would recommend.

So dark you can barely read the menu, and it’s hard to ask questions to the waitstaff because the music channel is turned up so high… to 70’s funk. We ordered the kimchee and tofu appetizer — it came last. It had pork in it, which wasn’t described on the menu(I’m vegetarian). Ordered the nigiri sampler and the Pride roll. Salmon has a limp, farmed texture and taste, although Butterfish was good. Pride roll arrived without any wasabi, and it really needed it, the fish had such mild flavor. I asked the server for it and she looked confused; uh, don’t most orders of sushi arrive with wasabi? Waitstaff a bit clueless; I asked for a second beer, and server took mine with two or three ounces still in it and brought me a second one of the wrong kind; it was like she didn’t really understand that beers are different, and people like to finish them. Ambiance, service, and overall quality of food is weird and definitely not worth the price. Beers were good, though(21st Amendment Brewing).

Very nice and clean please in the Mission! We ordered a few rolls and a few pieces of nigirl. The Kazan Rolls was super good along with their Lion King Roll! The server was very nice and quick. Their nigiri was reminiscent of my trip to Tokyo! Will def come back again and def worth the drive! PS — Gets busy at night so good luck trying to find parking!

I like the fact that this place is open for most of the day, so that was the main reason why I chose this place. I wanted to catch up with a friend of mine before her baby is born in March and also talk about the upcoming baby shower. The pros are the service and the fact that it’s open. The cons are the cold shrimp tempura and cold soft shell crab and higher than necessary prices. $ 7 for gyoza, come on. $ 16 for their XXL roll which just had a lot more rice, come on. Or the unagi for $ 16 that was barely warmed up. No thanks. The oyster with uni was good though, but pricey. $ 12 for 3. The 24th roll which had the soft shell crab was cold. I don’t like cold soft shell crab or the cold shrimp tempura in the XXL roll. The sauces were okay, but once again it’s more expensive than other places. But, we paid for the convenience of eating an early 4:30pm dinner.

A gem of a sushi restaurant located in the heart of the Mission. I think sometimes we neglect exploring other cuisines in this district since it is the heart and soul of delicious Latin and Salvadorian foods. Kazan adds a nice change of pace as the serve quality sushi. Make sure to ask for their specials, obviously towards the end of the day they run out of most things(i.e uni :[). I tried the blue shrimp and hamachi toro. Both were fresh and paired well with the specialty rolls we had ordered. I recommend the Threesome and the Last Samurai. Both had salmon and spicy tuna. Feel free to ask the staff for recommendations, they are friendly and quite attentive.

Loved this place! This is one of my favorite sushi place in the city. Everything was delicious and FRESH – from the Japon Taco to the Jalapeño Hamachi to the O-toro. I loved every bite. The fish is super fresh and their flavors are amazing. I also loved their Korean-fusion Okonomiyaki, Ika-geso and their special rolls(Kazan, 24th St., Lion King and the Last Samurai)!! Clean beautiful and lovely atmosphere. The staff is nice and friendly, and prices are reasonable. I’ll definitely be back soon!

Never got to eat the food. Waited for 45 minutes even though there were empty tables. A group that sat down 20 minutes before us still hadn’t ordered when we left. Complete breakdown of service. Saw a waitress spill a full bottle of soy sauce on a customer.

The only vegan options were the spicy soba and veggie curry. I opted for the veggie curry which was average. What bothered my friend and I the most was the deep house music that distracted us from our lunch. Other than that, service was a bit slow since there was only one server at lunch.

Came back and ordered sushi nigiri piece by piece to my liking. Here’s my selection: 1. Uni 2. Ama-ebi 3. Hamachi 4. Sake 5. Escolar 6. Tamago 7. Scallop 8. Maguro Sushi was fresh and delicious. We were seated after only a 5 minute wait on a Friday night around 8pm. Another sushi win in my book. Parking can be a little rough on Friday nights though. The uni and tamago were stand outs. I know, Tamago? But hey, it was really good. I like that they mix fresh shiso into the uni nigiri. They fried the ama-ebi head in true japanese fashion. Just wish the nigiri shrimp piece itself was a little bigger. The ambiance is hip with comics on the wall and reddish lamps. Bonus: Walk over to Humphrey Slocombe for ice cream after dinner. Just a 4 block walk away.

Delicious and fresh sushi. Cute place and wasn’t too busy at all. I had the last samurai roll and was massive! It tasted soooo good. I’d definitely be back to try more and get that again. My friend ordered the sexy sexy since it has cream cheese. They made the roll and forgot the cream cheese. The waitress then offered to make a new roll. She came back with the same roll and little pieces of cream cheese on top of each roll. We were not impressed. We then had them actually remake the roll and was good. The lack of work was not impressive but the food is good and I would go back and try it again.

This cute little neighborhood Sushi place was fun and quaint. The service was great and the entrees were delicious and fresh. The Jalapeño Hamachi is a must try as long as you enjoy the spicy flavors. We also tried the unique Tacos, which were my favorite and the Sashimi Salad. Overall, a good dining experience for a new local restaurant.

Food: 3.5 stars Service: 4 stars Cool, chill vibe. I recommend getting rolls there instead of noodle soups. We each got the sansai udon($ 12) and tonkatsu ramen($ 13), both were underwhelming in taste. Rather mild, dangerously close to being bland. However, the kazan roll($ 16) and jalapeño poppers($ 12) were super tasty and above expectations. And this is coming from a person who prefers soup+noodles to anything else. Jalapeño poppers had stuffed spicy tuna and topped with tobiko(fish roe), I’m sold on that. The kazan roll was rather simple but the seared tuna was so fresh and paired perfectly with the roll and avocado! Great portions(to share) too. Hot house sake($ 8) was mild/sweet, good for all the rainy days of this season. Service was friendly even though we stayed past their closing time at 10pm. With the potential of being a really cool place, I’m bumping this to 4 stars. Tip to Management — I know it’s expensive to rent, but your prices are a couple dollars above all other competitors in this area :-(Maybe offer a special of the week with discount? We’re coming back for more appetizers and maybe try the habanero seafood ramen!

Another trip to this part of the city means another Über driver asking me «are you sure you meant 24th st and not 24th avenue?» Do I really look like I shouldn’t be there? Well, I am beyond glad that I went, because Kazan was delicious. To our big surprise Kazan was actually completely empty on a Wednesday evening, maybe because its the day before Christmas, or maybe people just haven’t found out how awesome this sushi place is. We started out with some sake and miso soup, very standard, and a nice starter. Now for a run-down of the rolls(in order of preference) — Three Some 13: Just like the menu says, just get it! I could not put it in a better way. This roll was delicious. A great mix of fresh salmon, spicy tuna, and some sauce. Really everyone’s favorite ingredients in one. Kazan: If there is one good decision you can make at a restaurant: pick the dish the place is named after. Incredibly fresh hamachi mixed in with San Francisco’s new favorite vegetable(asparagus), as well as, some seared tuna to top it all off. The entire roll is covered with leaves, and a great sauce, so good, that I covered the sauce in all the leaves and ate them(and I am not a big vegetable person — at all) Japon Taco: Very fun and unique way to make a Japanese taco. As my friend said, «Very DIY.» They gave us a plate of poke(amazing fresh heavily spiced poke), avocado, cucumber, and seaweed. Sexy Sexy: I may have put it last, but it still was very good. A nice artery clogger with cream cheese and completely deep fried — the type of roll they tell us to stay away from in dental school — but completely worth it!

Food was great! Really sampled a lot and all of it was great. Portions were perfect. Highlights: Spicy grilled calamari– yum. Curry sweet potato fries — never had anything like them!!! Great! Handrolls — good meaty fish. The«kiss»(can’t remember full name) was OMG! Oyster, uni, quail eggs, salmon egg!!! Spicy wings were nice and crisp. Sesame chicken good and generous. Wine prices not expensive. Will be back to try more things on the menu! Was easy to get reservation last minute for 8PM but packed up starting around 8:30. Full restaurant going by 9. Servers were busy so service wasn’t super attentive but was good. Wait staff very kind and friendly.

I think, this restaurant is one of the best sushi place in San Francisco. Good service, fresh and tasty fish comes whenever I visit John. If you are looking for sushi and sashimi dishes, you want to check it place. He always explains about the menu kindly too. Give it a try, you won’t be dissapointed. :)

Very very disappointed. We saw the high Unilocal ratings and decided to go there for date night. I have never had sushi rice cooked as mushy as what we got there. The portion was generous but wasn’t the fish. The fish was sliced very thin and the taste was just meh. There was no punch to anything. We ordered the tuna taco, a couple of rolls(one had jalepeno), and at the end of the day it was just not good. The shrimp tempura inside the roll was cold and pre-fried a day ago. Won’t go back again. I think people are catching on because it wasn’t crowded at all.

My cousin was visiting from out the country so we decided to have dinner one last time. We got seated immediately but right after, the restaurant began to quickly fill up. We ordered a bunch of stuff and everything was great. My favorite was the grilled calamari. The fish was fresh and the presentation of the food was impeccable. The chefs definitely know what they’re doing. Service was good considering how quickly busy it got.

The Best Damn Meal I’ve Had In a While! In my part of town, in Los Angeles, I don’t have access to a lot of top-quality sushi. It’s just average. So when I discovered Kazan I thought I’d give it a chance. We ordered a sashimi boat, an appetizer and a roll. The cuts of fish were very generous and fresher than anything I’ve tried in recent memory. It’s just simple, clean and traditional sushi. If you want to try some Americanized rolls, they have that too.

Decent sushi. Bang for the buck can be better. Weird service. I’ll talk about the food first, and then close up with a good story. This is actually a Korean-owned place, and of course, that doesn’t suddenly disqualify the authenticity of the sushi experience. I was craving a quick sushi fix — and a treat for myself after a long work week, so I entered the place alone and sat at the sushi bar. They didn’t have a reputable omakase option available — weird, why? — so I ended up ordering 8 pieces. — Toro was okay. It wasn’t a buttery, mouth-melting heaven I’ve experienced in other places. — Salmon toro was pretty good, but not the best I’ve ever had. — Katsuo was nice. The toppings and the additional flavor and texture they provided were a nice touch. — Amaebi was very well done. There was a lot of tobiko on top of the shrimp, but I liked the addition of the texture! And as you can see, the fried amaebi head is right there at the edge of the plate, as it should be! Oh, competence makes me smile. — Uni was something special. It was definitely one of the best uni I’ve had in the bay area! — Scallop was forgettable. — I don’t remember much about the last one and I’m blinking about what I ordered as well. :(
8 pieces came to about $ 40, which is comparable to omakase in other places, but you’d usually get one or two more pieces at the level of quality in this restaurant. Hence, my comment on the bang for the buck. Now, for the juicy episode. I noticed that the chefs were Korean and since I speak Korean fluently, I started chatting with the chefs. At first, I was curious why they opened a sushi restaurant rather than a Korean restaurant given the scarcity of good Korean food in the city. Instead, our conversation very quickly turned to… examining me. Chef: So what do you do? Me: I’m doing a PhD here. Chef: Oh? Rich parents, eh? Me: Well, no. PhDs often get tuition and living expenses from the school. You know, like a scholarship. Chef: Ah. «Scholarship» *gesturing quote-unquote* Me: It’s true, though. PhD is actually a great deal if you like what you study and if you have the patience for it. Chef: Well, you don’t look like someone who’d receive a scholarship. Me: Excuse me? Chef: I mean, you don’t look smart. My nephew/niece(not clear) goes to Stanford, and he/she looks smart. You don’t look like you like studying. Me: Uhhhhhhh… So there. Gratuitous assumptions on my parents’ income. And of course, I have to be a brat to be eating at a sushi restaurant while studying at a university. And then unwarranted, and well, insulting comments on my looks. What’s up? Despite the delicious uni, I don’t think I’ll be going back.

Walked in and the first thing I noticed was how dark it was! I totally understand the atmosphere that they are going for but a little brighter won’t kill anyone. The interior was very nice and inviting! They don’t allow pets in the restaurant but they have nice areas in the front where I was able to tie my dog. I went with the Sansai Udon which was SOGOOD! I would drive here again just for the Udon! The noodles were thinner than typical Udon noodles and seemed fresher than the typical. As for my sister, she ordered a Salmon rice plate and when the server was bringing it to our table, she dropped it on the ground. We didn’t mind and they insisted on cooking up a fresh new slice for us! The portions on this dish were big and she ended up taking the second piece of Salmon to go. My cousin got a Nigiri platter; it was one of the coolest platters I have ever seen! They set up the fish from like lightest to heaviest piece of fish or something like that which I thought was super cool! I would for sure come again and I highly recommend this place to anyone!

The sushi is absolutely incredible. It’s super fresh, and there’s million different flavors in each bite which all fuse together so perfectly. I won’t go in to explain how good the food was because words cannot do it justice. It’s the type of food that makes you question your sexuality and leave you wondering if you’ve been attracted to food this whole time and just needed the right food to realize that. You can tell the food was created with a lot of thought behind it, which I can really appreciate. The oysters were the best I’ve ever tried. I can guarantee that you have not tried anything like this before, and you need to do so ASAP. If you’re reading this and trying to decide between restaurants to eat at, PICKTHISONE!!! The only negative is it’s on the pricier side($ 4 each for oysters). Meh… work too hard to be balling on a budget am I right? Just kidding I still need to pay my bills T. T

This is a great place for a date or a nice dinner out with the fam! Ambience: The lighting is dim so create this romantic atmosphere. There are actual little candles in these cute clear holders that light each table, adding on to the romantic element. The music is just right. Soft enough to heard and enjoy conversations you’re having with your company and loud enough to listen to while you’re taking a break from talking. Food: Once I saw the caption(don’t ask, just try it!) for threesome I knew I had to get it. Whoever thought of it should get a pat of the back. I won’t give any surprise away but it does contain raw fish so don’t get it if that’s not your thing! I enjoyed the PRIDEROLL and the LASTSAMURIXXLROLL. Both filled with great flavors and my fav, fresh salmon! Service: Decent. The waitresses gave us enough time to order, eat and talk. But it did take some time to get a hold on them to get our bill. But that space could allow for more conversation if you’re, say, on a date and not in a rush to get out.

After losing a bet to Quang L.(ugh, Pacman! I’m still shaking my fists at you!), he requested I treat him out to dinner at a «sexy sexy» place that offers good food, good drinks, and a «threesome.» Look no further, cause Kazan has all that and more. San Francisco really is the mecca of all the wonderful things in life, huh? Although Kazan is located in the Mission District, the restaurant is the typical high end sushi restaurant. Food and drinks came in a timely manner, and service is attentive and wonderful. Their special rolls have interesting names, so we had to order them! — Threesome($ 13): the description said«don’t ask, just try it!!!» so we did! — Sexy Sexy($ 13): spicy tuna, avocado, cream cheese, tobiko, and it’s fried on the outside! — T-Dragon($ 14): shrimp tempura, cucumber with unagi, avocado, crab, and green onion Three rolls between two people is more than enough. They were all constructed well, so every bite was a joy. Sashimi Samplers: — 8 pieces for $ 22 — 20 pieces for $ 45 2 beers, 2 large sakes, and 3 rolls turned out to be around $ 73 with tip and tax. Great company and happy bellies? This is way better than getting shitfaced in a «sexy sexy» place like Vegas and waking up regretting the«threesome» you got yourself into the night before.

I love coming here always especially whenever I decide to go out have some real Japanese food. All the fish that they carry is super fresh, lovely tasty which I love. I’m very picky when it comes to oysters, sushi & sashimi but this place is way beyond average. Super awesome and super fresh. You should ask sushi chefs /staffs for daily specials if you are willing to try something different. I highly recommend coming here.
