I usually dont write reviews unless it is really good or really bad. I agree with the two bad reviews I read on here. Sashimi wasnt all great and the lady tricked us to get more expensive roll that didnt worth the prices. Services was horrible, the lady service. The new younger guy was actually nice. But the lady kept yelling at him and treating him really bad. The food didnt stand out. THEYTAKEFOREVER to make 2 small rolls and the restaurant was empty. They really need to hire a new sushi chef. Will never go back again.

This is a regretful posthumous review. Jimi’s closed for good at the end of October. Tonight we came by and found the windows papered over, but we lucked into seeing Jimi himself and managed to exchange words. My wife and I came here at least once every 1 – 2 weeks for five years and counting. Jimi and Kim always made us feel welcome, and we never had a bad meal. Jimi knew how to find good fish, and I always trusted whatever he would serve. The bar was often full of regulars, many of whom I got to know. So if Roger, Marilyn, Fred, or anyone else whose name escapes me reads this — feel free to get in touch on Unilocal and send me your email. It’s a bummer that JImi’s success with a small crowd of regulars never translated into a larger clientele, but this place meant a lot to us, and hopefully we’ll be around to see what Jimi gets up to next.

Fresh fish and innovative rolls. I would definitely come back just for the Sunset, which is two pieces of rice, wrapped with salmon, topped with ikura and a quail egg. We even got a second order to wrap up the delicious dinner. *nom nom*

9th Avenue has many great Japanese restaurants! Going to high school and living in the area for a long time, I have pretty much tried them all. Jimisan has never failed me! The food is always very fresh and yummy. Personally, I do not eat any raw fish, so I stick to the«cooked» rolls. Rolls I like: *Lion King roll(tempura roll inside and topped with salmon and creamy sauce on top — then baked) is one of the best Lion King rolls I’ve had… and I’ve had many of them. I usually have to ask them to bake it a little longer so that the salmon is fully cooked. *Blizzard roll(shrimp tempura inside with crab salad on top) My family and friends have ordered many of their«raw» rolls and my mom especially like their sashimi. Their oysters are apparently great, as well! Try the garlic edamame as your appetizer and ask for their spicy mayo sauce to dip each bean in! Service: *Very attentive! The young boy is super nice and fills your tea and water cups before they are half way finished. The woman that works there(I’m assuming the owner) is also very friendly. Screams hello and goodbye to everyone and truly makes everyone feel welcomed. Prices: *Reasonable but their«bento» boxes are a little pricey.

This place probably deserves 1.5 stars. Walked in on a Saturday night with a couple of my girlfriends and it was completely empty except for a couple sitting at the sushi bar. We were seated immediately. Our food took forever to come. The service was definitely slow because the waitress was too busy catering to one other table and just leaning against the sushi bar(only my table and another table there). Never refilled our tea. Our udon took over 30 min to come out. Even after we asked for it, it still took about 10 minutes for it to come out. We got the Jade roll, Spicy scallop, and rock n roll. They’re so forgettable, I don’t even remember how they tasted. I’d probably never be back again. I don’t know how this place has 4 stars. I was definitely disappointed and I never write bad reviews.

The tropical roll is amazing! My boyfriend took me here as a surprise. He used to come here all the time as a kid and I guess they recently remodeled and reopened. The food was good, the fish fresh, and they gave my boyfriend the platter he wanted even though they no longer have it on the menu. Cute family owned restaurant. It is a little pricey and the food takes a while longer than usual to be made hence the 3 stars.

For the price, quality, and taste, this place was definitely not worth it. I feel like a lot says about a sushi restaurant by the quality and taste of just their California roll and unfortunately it was not up to par for me. As was given for the following rolls we ordered. The Lion King roll for $ 12 was such a disappointment. It was really small and the salmon atop the roll didn’t look/taste like it was baked long enough. The Salmon Citrus, I don’t even remember. Obviously wasn’t great if it was that forgettable. Great customer service though although a little too overwhelming. Me and my friend(my friend and I?) were the only ones in the restaurant and we basically had two waitresses because one looked like she was bored or just wanted to bud in our business(because we asked our primary waitress what their best rolls were). It took us awhile to decide on what to order but we kept getting interrupted while scanning the menu because the waitress would ask us if we were ready to order. She did this about 3 times. I know she means well but it just got annoying especially when we were in the middle of eating and she’d come up asking if everything was okay. We just wanted to eat in peace.

Fresh & tasty sushi. Though a bit pricey the special rolls were amazing. My wife & I had the Tropical which was a sweet & savory treat. The more basic roles tasted great and were very inexpensive. One special role and three basic ones were perfect for two. My only complaint was the music. They were playing some bland mixture of pop hits from the 90’s. Not the good stuff, cheesy things like Ice Ice Baby.

We got really lucky and found nearby street parking. Though in this area I know it can be rather tricky. The venue was clean but surprisingly empty. Our waitress sat us down immediately and I was taken aback by her abundant politeness. She answered our questions and I’m pretty sure I heard at least 18 thank yous before we left. I ordered the deluxe plate. It came with 10 pieces of various sashimi over rice, an order of ca rolls, an order of spicy tuna rolls as well as a bowl of plain udon. The sashimi rolls were fresh but the chef put a little bit of wasabi in the rice and I don’t like wasabi so that ruined it for me. The ca rolls were insanely fresh and tasty. I lavished as the flavors of fresh crab, delicious avocado and perfectly cooked rice melted in my mouth. I didn’t try the tuna rolls because I’m not a fan of spicy but the udon was on point. The noodles weren’t too hard or soft and the simple broth was a perfect combination of salt, heat and deliciousness. This is probably my newest favorite sushi spot in Sf now.

I have one thing to say about this place: food poisoning. Terrible experience, nice people and service but overall unimpressed. We ordered the spicy tuna roll and split it but four hours later, my girlfriend felt really sick and ended up vomiting all that sushi out. I don’t really understand why this place has such a high rating. This place used to be good but now it’s mostly just empty half the time.

According to Unilocal, this business was opened today 12pm-10pm. My BF& I drove over 15 min. to find parking just to eat here only to find out that they were under construction! There wasn’t even a notice on the door that said they were closed. We just opened the entrance door and we see the construction workers working on the floor. Lesson learned: call business prior to wasting time and getting a headache from driving in circles trying to find parking here!

I could not believe that a party of 6 could walk into a sushi restaurant at 7:30 and get a table immediately(in fairness, it was a Monday night) and still have good sushi, but it happened. Jimisan is a neighborhood favorite of some of my parents’ neighbors, so we decided to check it out. It’s a family operation, and if they know you, they’ll take good care of you. So get to know them. :) Highlights were whatever they recommended as freshest, so that night it was the arctic char and the Japanese snapper. We also enjoyed the Infinity Roll and the tuna with jalapeño roll as well as the Monterrey uni. My non-sushi eating husband enjoyed their perfectly fried tempura and tonkatsu. The beer and sake selections are limited. If you bring wine, they are good about chilling it and supplying the wine glasses.

When you can’t get a table at Ebisu and don’t want to pay the higher prices at Koo, Jimisan always comes to the rescue. I’ve never had to wait for a table and the portions are generous. Everyone there has always been super friendly too. Ever since I discovered Jimisan, I’ve actually never gone back to Ebisu and Hotei simply because I didn’t have the patience to wait. Funny though, I always go to Ebisu first, find out the wait is 45 minutes, then head straight for Jimisan.

3.5 stars really Pretty fish sushi but the service is soooooooooo incredibly slow. Only one waitress and one sushi chef for an entire restaurant during Sunday dinner. There were maybe only 4 other people in the restaurant besides my table. Quiet ambiance and the the waitress was really nice but not very efficient. and I was getting tired of waiting.

I’ve gone here at least once a month for half a decade. I’ve never had a bad experience. Not once. Fridays and Saturdays can be a bit of a wait, so I recommend mid-week.

This is a small family owned business, but the sushi is out of this world! I really like this place because it is quiet and I can hold a conversation with the person I’m eating with. All the sushi is fresh and the cooked items are also very tasty. I think this place deserves better ratings since it’s been around a long time. You can’t survive as a business these days, unless your food is good. I give this place 5 stars for excellent food and excellent customer service.

Wow, talk about being disappointed. I took my friend her for her birthday,(she picked based on Unilocal reviews). We walked in at 6:45pm, no one was there, literally. We waited around until a waiter saw us and seated us. It didn’t bother me but boy was this the beginning of the end. The staff, super nice but they must have had an off day or was under staffed. The waitress that took our order was very energetic and even recommended some rolls for us. Other people started to pile in after our first two rolls,(out of 4) arrived. They were both good, some shrimp tempura roll and. I don’t remember. We had to ask for tea several times before they finally remembered. Then they forgot we had two more rolls coming out. When the 3rd came out, they forgot we had a fourth. We must have been at the restaurant for almost 2 hours. It NEVER takes me that long to eat, haha.

Super fresh and satisfying sake sashimi. Ordered one of the house specialty roles and it was pretty weird, but good… I think… The owners are incredibly friendly and will strike up a long conversation if you so desire. Will definitely be back. But will not order the roles including banana. :)

Jimisan is A-OK. Nice, chill atmosphere and never a wait for a table. Menu/selection is pretty simple. It’s not the best spot if you’re a roll person; better if you’re a sashimi or nigiri person — and he doesn’t skimp. However, when he does pull out a roll(which from my impression he doesn’t enjoy doing), it’s pretty massive. So… overall… the best part about this place is his portions: impressive. Worth a try but there are many other good/better spots on that side of town.

Pretty good, pretty good indeed. Came here with my sister, brother-in law and my nephew. We were in the mood for sushi and this was their favorite spot. We ordered the: *Soft Shell Crab: deep-fried, served w/soy vinaigrette & aloli sauce. *Seafood Salad: mixed green, wakame, sashimi & ika sansai *Blizzard Roll: shrimp tempura roll topped w/spicy crab, raspberry sauce & tobiko *Spicy Crunch Roll: spicy tuna tempura roll topped w/wakame & tobiko * Chicken Teriyaki & Rice It was a great feast, we share 2 bottles of sake that were great. They have a great selection, but should have a menu — because I like to check out what I’m getting before I get it. Overall good food and a nice atmosphere.
