So I finally got the opportunity to try Humphry’s again. This time I finally got to devour some of the Secret Breakfast and let me just say it is absolutely impeccable. When I left, I wish I would’ve gotten two scoops instead of one. I also tried the Poached Pear and if you like red wine, you are going to love that one. It was also so, so very delicious but the Secret Breakfast already had me.

Magical! The ice cream here is truly magical. It’s amazing how complex the flavors can get or just even a simple flavor as Tahitian Vanilla is creamy goodness. I absolutely love the Blue Bottle Vietnamese robust coffee flavor. A single scoop is probably a good replacement for an actual cup of coffee!!! My favorite though has to be the Jasmine Lychee. Each bite is fragrant and pleasant to the taste buds. There are lots of other flavors I have to try still so I can’t wait to make another stop here the next time I’m at the Ferry building. Here is a tip: Get the 3 scoops as you get to try 3 different flavors but it’s the most worth it on your wallet. 1 scoop is $ 4.25. 3 scoops is $ 8. Do the math :)

I love a good ice cream spot. One of Mister’s friends said there was a place better than Bi-Rite Creamery in San Francisco and it is called Humphrey Slocombe. Luckily, there was one in the Ferry Building, so we got our dessert on. The line was long, which is a good sign. I looked at the menu and honestly, the flavor choices were disappointing. Yes, they were creative, but nothing too out of the box as compared to some of the ice cream shops in LA. I settled for a scoop of the milk chocolate passion fruit. It was aight. The flavor was dull and it wasn’t creamy enough. Now I had to check out Bi-Rite to see which reigns supreme.

BEST. ICE. CREAM. IN. THE. WORLD! No matter when, where, or why I’m in SF, I always go to Humphry’s and force all of my friends to go as well. So far, everyone has agreed that it is the best ice cream they’ve ever had. The price is the same as ice cream you’d get anywhere else, except it tastes 100x better so it’s definitely worth it. The line here gets really long whenever the Ferry Building gets busy, but it moves at a steady pace so don’t be deterred. Pretty much everything is good here and I’ve tried A LOT of flavors. My absolute favorites are honey graham, candy cap, and maple walnut, in that order. Seriously, everyone has to come here. If you’ve ever seen Codename Kids Next Door, this is the 4th flavor!

Had to rewrite this review after another trip here and after realizing I was dumb and posted my review to the wrong location: I can’t deny always wanting to make a stop at Humphry’s whenever I’m in the Ferry Building. The line can be long or short, it’s all just luck to be honest. I’ve been here at random times of random weekdays/weekends and I haven’t noticed a consistent trend yet. Today I came on a Friday and the line was basically empty the whole day. On my first trip here I of course had to give their famous Secret Breakfast a try. It basically tastes like corn flake cereal/milk with bourbon and I gotta say the two flavors work together damn well. It’s not my favorite flavor ever but I’d definitely recommend sampling it. I’ve also really enjoyed the Szechuan strawberry. It has a very strong fresh strawberry flavor and the slightest bit of spice leaves you with the classic tingling lips feeling. I also love the Jasmine Lychee flavor. The lychee is very subtle but pairs very well with the Jasmine. I also loved their Spring Ale flavor though a full scoop of it was a bit heavy. I believe the various beer flavors are mainly available during SF Beer Week. I also gave the Blue Bottle Vietnamese Ice Coffee another try today and it was more fragrant than my previous trips. I still wouldn’t opt for it considering there’s so many other options but if you’re looking for a safe choice, this one’s for you. The only ones I wouldn’t personally go back for are the Peanut Butter Curry or the Brown Butter. I’m not saying they’re not good. They’re both decent. While the curry one is interesting and the combo works, it’s just a bit too much for me as a full scoop. The brown butter was just a bit too savory for me and a full scoop of it is just too much. Overall, I really like this place and would love to come back!

It was fun to visit Humphry Slocombe at the Ferry Building this past weekend after having visited their storefront on Harrison a few years ago. Just as good as I remember! Without hesitation, I ordered a scoop of butterscotch root beer. Where else can you find a flavor like that? My husband got a scoop of secret breakfast, which was also super tasty. There was a certain grit to the consistency of the ice cream that would usually bother me in a store-bought product but was somehow strangely appropriate from HS and maybe lent itself to the homemade feel of it. Service was good and their stall at the Marketplace is minimalist in style and very clean, though still inviting. Next time, I think I may have to opt for 2+ scoops.

A little ice cream shop in the Ferry Building, just across from Blue Bottle. They definitely have some collaboration going on. We contemplated getting the Complete Breakfast. Instead, we got the Special Breakfast and the Sesame ice creams. Special Breakfast is definitely a different kind of ice cream. It tasted a bit like bourbon, but I guess it was more of the aftertaste that made it seem more like alcohol. It was interesting but not sure if I’d get it again. I did like the cornflakes in the ice cream because they were kinda soggy haha We also tried the Sesame ice cream. I’ve had black sesame flavored shaved snow in LA which I thought was better, but it was still nice here. They also had a beer float party near the Mission, but we missed it due to time constraints! Seems like they have a lot of cool things going on(pun intended!).

I think Humphry Slocombe is a little overhyped, but I still enjoyed the two flavors that I got — oolong tea and Vietnamese coffee. The oolong tea was perfectly balanced(sweet, but not too sweet) and the Vietnamese coffee wasn’t as overpowering as I thought it might be. Overall, I don’t think the two flavors matched well with each other, but separately, they were delicious. I do really like the fact that the scoop size here is huge compared to other high quality ice cream shops! Because of this, I make it a point to try to come here and order something whenever I’m at the Ferry Building.

I’ve always passed by this place in the Ferry Building and finally decided to give it a try. Glad I did, I really love their Secret Breakfast flavor which has some cornflakes and bourbon in it! The ice cream had great smooth texture, but I would say that the cornflakes were a little on the chewier side. I also tried the POG flavor which is a common juice in Hawaii(Passion Orange Guava). The flavor was spot on to the juice I remember from Hawaii! I also sampled the jasmine lychee which was also great holding hints of the tea and lychee and the creaminess of the ice cream itself. Great ice cream spot!

I was so astonished by their unique flavors and I really loved their ice cream names! Like secret breakfast. I’m a huge ice cream lover and had this first thing in the morning which is bad but That’s how much I love ice cream. I stumbled upon this place because of a friend’s recommendation. It’s my first time in San Fran and I heard that I had to go here. Loved how clean everything was and loved the jasmine lychee flavor! It wasn’t as creamy as I thoughts it would be But the waffle cones were pretty good. A downside to this place is that it was pretty expensive. Other ice cream places were around $ 3 to $ 4 but it was $ 4.75 for one scoop waffle cone. And I wish they scooped better because the person who scooped mine looked like it was going to tip over and the ice cream melted so quickly.

Unusual flavors that tickle my adventure taste buds. I walked by Humphry Slocombe and saw a list of random daily ice cream flavors. Among the list was the flavor«Secret Breakfast.» I dropped what I was doing out of curiosity to examine the flavor. A freshly made vanilla ice cream sweetened with bourbon and full of corn flakes. I only planned on getting a light lunch but that combo of unheard of flavors had my full attention and was a must try before the day was through. I came back with a hunger for sweet secret breakfast and saw a daily special called«Complete Breakfast». It was a scoop of Secret Breakfast with a scoop of Vietnamese Coffee flavored ice cream, made with locally made coffee. Bam! I had the perfect combo pairing right in front of me. The Vietnamese Coffee tasted sweet and strong and woke me right up. The Secret Breakfast stole the show, with a sweet bourbon flavor accompanied by the crunchy texture of the cereal. I also had a sample of the jasmine tea ice cream, which tasted like an ice cold cup of jasmine tea, very refreshing, but couldn’t hold a candle to Secret Breakfast. If Humphry Slocombe can keep up with the wonderful array of flavors, then expect me to be there every week to tr

I love that Humphry Slocombe does not shy away from bold flavors, and I so love bold flavors in my ice creams, so really, HS and I are a perfect match! My favorite flavors here are the Secret Breakfast(the bourbon is wonderfully unmistakable), the Black Sesame(strong sesame flavor) and the Butter Beer. On this particular visit, they had a Jasmine Lychee flavor. I decided to have it with the Black Sesame. Yummy! I hope they have the Jasmine Lychee next time too! Yes, their ice creams are on the softer side, but small batch ice creams with no additives to make them hard are naturally on the softer side. Their ice cream are as good and flavorful as the ones I’ve made at home using the best ingredients possible. If you are in the city, save room for dessert and try their Black Sesame if you’ve never had it! You’ll be a Black Sesame lover for life!

The line was long, the selections were limited, and the scoops were tiny. The nebulous names for some of the flavors, such as «Christmas Story» and«Classic Breakfast» without accessible descriptions made it difficult to decide on which flavors to sample, as I had no idea where to start. I ended up getting the POG Sorbet, which was pretty sweet. I was very disappointed with the amount of scoop I got for the hefty $ 4 one scoop price. I would not come back here.

I don’t understand the hype. Honestly, not just a few fries short of a happy meal, but the toy too. This place leaves so much to be desired. The flavors are monotone, the amount of fixin to ice cream ratio is pretty skimpy, and it’s almost good, but not quite. I ended up throwing away what I had after a few bites. Subpar. Sorry, Humphrey! You’re not worth the wait in line or the calories. I’ve had better.

A little pricey but honestly one of the best ice creams I’ve had, with its rich and creamy textures. I love how unconventional the flavors are – the Secret Breakfast with its strong bourbon flavors and crunchy corn flakes is hands down my favorite, but I also really like the Vietnamese coffee and the Adzuki Dr. Pepper(seasonal). It’s always a treat to stop by this place.

Yum yum yum! I’ve been dying to try this place for the longest time and I finally got the chance to! This shop is located inside the ferry building. Lots of flavors for you to sample and choose from. My favorite and possibly all time favorite is the vietnamese iced coffee. The texture was perfect. It didn’t melt too fast in your hands and wasn’t soft like gelato. It was thick and the flavor was on point. It really did taste like you were drinking vietnamese iced coffee. The only thing I didn’t like about the experience was the recycled cups. At the end when the ice cream melted, the cup gets very soggy and wet. Good thing there is an easy fix to that: next time I’m getting a cone! Definitely coming back again soon! Price: $ 4 for one scoop and $ 6 for two scoops!

Located inside the Ferry Plaza Bldg right across from Blue Bottle Coffee. My family and I originally went to the Ferry Bldg to indulge in delicious seafood at Hog Island Oyster Co. After our dinner, I just had to have a scoop of Humphry Slocombe’s Tahitian vanilla($ 4). This is my second time here and I must admit HS is by far one of the best ice cream shops in SF(comparable to Bi-Rite and Smitten). Their Tahitian vanilla ice cream is so rich and creamy. You could taste the vanilla in every bite and it’s not too sweet. The line for ice cream is always long but it moves quickly.

San Francisco is stacked on good ice cream, and Humphry Slocombe is no exception. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Like more or less any other shop in the Ferry Building, the line at HSIC can grow lengthy especially on the weekend, but don’t let that deter you. If nothing else, make use of the time to decide what one or two flavors you’re going to go with, because let me assure you that nothing will haunt you like sampling a friend’s selection and realizing that it’s somehow even better than yours. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Ice cream is, for whatever reason, expensive these days, and my order of a single scoop of Secret Breakfast in a cup was no different ringing up at $ 4.00. That’s steep, but the price point was put into perspective when a scoop of Cookies and Cream and nearby Over the Moon ran me a dollar more on account of it being in between two oreo cookies. It’s close, but Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Humphry Slocombe keeps you guessing with a constantly changing flavor line up that’s not always in line with what you’d typically find elsewhere. Standard Chocolate? Cookies n Cream? Peanut Butter anyone? No dice. Initially this had me a bit worried given that I’m typically one for the classics, but my fears were alleviated when one of the friendly servers insisted that I get Secret Breakfast. Bourbon flavored ice cream with corn flakes in the mix? I’ll be honest — that sounded awful, but I trusted the system and went for it. Goodness me was I glad I did. Again, the combination truly sounded dreadful, but it couldn’t have been better. No, it didn’t taste like bourbon or cornflakes, but instead was a sweet but crunchy combination that I could have eaten far more of. From what I’ve heard, the other rotating and steady flavors are in the same ballpark, and that can only mean that both stars are warranted here. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Humphry Slocombe is a fantastic option for ice cream in San Francisco, but given that it’s one of many fantastic options, I can’t go the full five stars here. No Star Granted.

Of the 4 times I’ve flown to SF in the past year, I always make it a point to stop here for handcrafted ice cream, particularly after indulging in delicious clam chowder at Hog Island Oyster Co. Although Humphrey Slocombe is located right across from Blue Bottle Coffee, I usually pass on their coffee and end up getting the BBC Vietnamese coffee flavored ice cream at HS instead. I also recommend the black sesame, although a lot of people like the secret breakfast(bourbon flavor). Two generous scoops($ 6) of two different flavors are enough to share, as the texture is very creamy and dense. You can try many flavors, but they’ll run out of certain ones if you drop by later in the afternoon. In comparison to Bi-Rite, I prefer Humphry Slocombe because the flavors aren’t too sweet and the consistency was better. The line snakes around quite a bit, but moves fairly quickly and is definitely worth the wait. The staff are pretty friendly, but this place is no-frills with a whiteboard door as their menu(on the side).

People who know me have gotten over the crazy fact that I don’t really like desserts. Yeah, I’m the weirdo who would rather eat a good salad than ice cream or a piece of fruit or vegetable over a cookie. My ideal cake is piled high with berries and I used to order fruit tarts and just eat the fruit. I therefore don’t crave or neeeeeed ice cream or sweets, but I do like trying interesting flavors and get excited when lines for food are 20+ people deep. Yes, while walking through the ferry building, we walked past a humongous line and while I wasn’t necessarily hungry or in need of dessert, I thought it would be a good idea to jump in line. While the lady behind me kept invading my personal space(I suspect cultural differences), I read up Unilocal reviews and planned what to get. By the time I got to the front, I knew I was going to order«the complete breakfast»: a scoop of bourbon and cornflake ice cream and a scoop of Vietnamese coffee ice cream. I didn’t let the ice cream child worker know that though. I asked to sample two of the seasonal flavors I hadn’t seen on Unilocal: spiced pumpkin and brittle something or other. The pumpkin flavor was good… Like pumpkin pie, and I didn’t care for the other one. Coming from Hawaii, I did think the POG(passion fruit, orange, guava) sorbet sounded interesting, but I can get POG at home. My breakfast ice cream was probably one of the best ice creams I’ve had, super creamy and flavorful. Am I gonna want more tomorrow or next week, no, but someone who loves ice cream might think otherwise. I liked the set up and décor. It was cool that they wrote the menu on the wall tiles. The girl working looked to be in her pre teens and had a hard time following what I wanted to order. She also wasn’t very friendly… ehhh whatevers.
