My first time at Grasplan, Elise was very nice and sweet. I can’t lie, I was very nervous to get my curly hair cut by a new person. But I love love love my hair cut, Thank you Elise for loving and caring for my curls. Next time I am bringing my little one with me!

Have you guys seen the movie«Beauty Shop» with Queen Latifah, Alicia Silverstone, and Rudy from the Cosby Show? Probably not, but Kevin Bacon makes an appearance in it as a bougie stylist with an unfortunate haircut. I think maybe 75% of the stylists I’ve been to in San Francisco embody him.(For reference: ) Thankfully, Elise is not Kevin Bacon. Most days I can’t even be bothered with my hair, yet I have ridiculously high standards for how it should look because I’m pretty vain with my mane. As ridiculous as my double standard is, it’s totally freeing not to be bound by styling tools and products everyday, and still look put together. And it’s possible! I can either do the wash and wear(most days) or style it, but it looks great either way. Elise understands that and works with what you’ve got. To keep from looking like a Fraggle, I generally opt for safe chop with layers, but edgy enough to look stylish. I also mapped out a hair color plan with her and now my hair is free from the prison of over processing. My friends have done three things since I’ve been going to Elise: 1) Morphed into french speaking hacks using phrases like«j’adore tes cheveux». 2) Blackmailed me until I surrendered her number to them 3) Said«I thought of you, I got my hair cut today and I asked them to cut it like yours because it always looks amazing» True facts. Elise is not only talented, dependable, and über cool, she is kind and runs a salon that I enjoy supporting. She’s made her business about as green as it could be, and I love not worrying about the toxic smells and allergic reactions I used to get after getting my hair done. I can’t recommend her enough! Plus, if you’re lucky, you get to go into the spaceship aka, the coolest hair dryer I’ve ever seen in real life.

Elise is an amazing hairstylist! I’ve been going to her salon for fifteen years now. No one understands my hair like she does. I started with her when she worked across the street from my apartment building on California street in 1996. Now I travel sixty miles each direction. Love her!

My experience with Elise was great! A friend recommended her and, when I saw that she uses eco-friendly products, I was sold! I don’t miss the chemical smells at all. I think I have pretty normal hair… long and straight. Still, Elise did exactly what I asked and even offered some input(Would you like to try some layers in the back?). This is perfect for a stylist, in my opinion. She completely took her time with me, too. She even gave me some pointers on keeping my hair healthier(using everyday household things, not products she was trying to sell). My appointment was about three months ago, and I’m still loving the way my hair falls. A simple cut, but done well to give my hair movement and a bit more interest. Plus, she’s totally personable and easy to chat with… and DOES give a great neck massage!

I am probably a hairstylist’s worst nightmare. Well, maybe not worst but, pretty bad. Whenever I get my hair done, I never really know what I want. Something different, not too this, a little bit that. I guess I expect the stylist to read my mind and, to date, Elise is the only person who’s been able to do just that. Somehow, after a few vague descriptors, she always manages to style my hair just the way I like it. Now that she has her own salon space. well…a good thing just got even better. I walked into her new salon on Folsom and it was like walking into a studio or spa. Private, cozy and very soothing! No hectic salon scene, no overwhelming chemical odors(she’s green!), no awkward moments with halfway cut hair, no sidelong glances from nearby stations as people listen in on your conversation… I loved it! Aside from being a highly skilled and creative hair stylist, Elise is charming, funny, witty and just damn nice. Highly recommended!

I’m not much of a «green» type but I respect that Elise is. More than anything, she’s a very sincere and talented hair stylist. She listens and she’s very reasonable. She has her new place in the Mission which is super cute and makes you feel like you’re in her apartment getting a home-made cut. Elise understands my short curly hair and gives me good advice, though she always makes sure that I’m happy in the end. She is also a pro at cutting my girlfriend’s hair which is super straight and thin. She recommends products but is never pushy. She won’t be quick or hasty. She’ll be thorough. And she gives amazing neck massages when she washes my hair! If you’re tired of salons and want to go to someone who’s consistent, try her out. If you drive there, make sure to leave plenty of time for parking or pay 3.50 at the UCSF public lot on 17th and Folsom.

Elise is awesome! I’ve always gotten excellent cuts from her through all my hairstyle phases and whims. She’s also friendly, down to earth, eco-conscious — and funny! Don’t get me started on the decadent head message that comes with each shampoo — worth the price of admission alone!

Elise is an amazing stylist. I’ve been a client for as long as I can remember and can’t imagine having my hair cut by anyone else. Give her a try, I’m sure you’ll be as happy as I am with her scissor skills, but be forewarned, you might get hooked.

Elise is a hair goddess, both cut and color. I’ve trusted my coiffure to her for almost a decade now, at three different salons. At long last, she’s opened a place of her own, a solo shop in the ActivSpace building. It’s a tiny, airy room painted the soothing colors of a forest on a sunny day and named the Swedish word for«green,» and it’s about as green as a hair place can be. All her products, equipment, and furniture are chosen to be as non-toxic and earth-friendly as possible. She gives a $ 5 discount to people who take mass transit to their appointments and donates a portion of her earnings to a different non-profit every month. She even composts your hair, people! All this and she still gives a damn good haircut at a reasonable price, including a neck massage that will have you wanting to visit in between trims. Awesome. There’s no other word for it.
