It’s a weird little spot. The turkey burgers and fries are good and reasonably priced. Service was pretty bad every time though.

Just ate at this place. Good bar that happens to serve foods too. Had the brambory; it was good except for one flavor — tasted like blue cheese. Should have asked not to add that flavor. Had two glasses of Guiness, good pints. My friend had a burger and it was huge. We could have shared one plate, I think. We chatted mostly on our iPhones, using Cardzilla, the app that my roommate Tim developed. Definitely will come here again. That means I dig the place. :)

Five stars, hands down! A little nervous as a vegetarian but they delivered with amazing black bean nachos. Hands down best I have had in a while. True neighborhood gem. I’d highly suggest it!

Brambories are great. Burgers looked good too, although I haven’t tried one yet.

Frankie’s is good as a bar, but not as a place to eat. I’ve been coming for 10+ years, and not much has changed. The brambory is interesting and worthwhile for a couple of visits, and generally the food is edible, but that’s about the best I can say about it. I ordered a lamb burger medium rare on my last visit, and got a well-done burger. They should at least be able to cook a burger to the right temperature. The barkeep is usually the server, and the service is friendly if spare. The beer is cold, which I is worth about two stars in my book.

I’ve tried Frankie’s a couple of time for lunch. Both time I can honestly say I wasn’t impressed by their food or service. This seems more like an evening type joint for locals. They offer a one-page menu highlighting their signature hash brown dishes. The rest is burgers and wings, pub fare. It’s more expensive than most lunches nearby and the service can be super slow even when empty. The last time I went with my crew and 3 of the 6 orders were incorrect. The server got irked cause we kept asking him for condiments and making him go back and forth to the kitchen. I mean if we’re ordering burgers and fries, ketchup and mayo should come out with it. None of us finished our lunches and it felt overpriced. This place is probably much better as a drinking pub than gastropub. Street parking is tough on nearby streets

FRANKIE’S ISBACK!!! Honest to God. The Tiki Bar is gone and so are the white table cloths! Pilsner Urquel isn’t the beer of the month anymore, but who cares? FRANKIE’S ISBACK!!! Back in the day we used to get people together for beers and food here on a regular basis(so often that Frankie’s actually supplied kegs for our wedding reception). We used to get charged for about half the beers we actually drank, and tip about quadruple what we would have tipped — that doesn’t happen anymore, but we’re grown ups now and we can pay for our beers and still tip. The old menu is back, plus a few extras. I got the turkey burger — it was fine but I had food envy of the warm spinach salad. Holy CRAP that looked good. The fajita fries were delicious, and the regular burger looked amazing too. Be Still My Heart… I’ll be back. Often.

Fresh baked bread? You mean that Safeway baked your bread three days ago? Their fries are serviceable, which is perhaps the most positive thing I can say about their food. Limp, tasteless, pedestrian, and thoughtless are the other words that come to mind. The ONLY reason I might consider coming back here would to try their zuchinni and potato hash, but I have deep reservations as to the quality of that plate given my pathetic Fried Chicken Sandwich. Also, I am still waiting for my side of mayonaisse.

A simple bar feel with a good selection of bar food. We had a very nice man as a waiter and he was the only one in there(other than whoever was in the kitchen). I had the veggie burger(no bun) with a side salad(dinner salad). The salad came with their homemade italian dressing which was delicious. Everything was fresh and delicious! My husband had the cheeseburger and fries and thought it was great. So hot and fresh and a huge patty. He always got a coke(it is a can… so probably no free refills, but some people like that better) Good selection/variety of food.

So don’t come here expecting the Frankies that it was because although the old frankies is back, still it’s changed and those that used to go there actually grew up so the vibe is very different. Back in the day before we were 21 we would come here because we didn’t get carded. Fun innocence. The crowd was definitely more boho. Fast foward a dozen plus years… this place is really awesome and you need to give the Czeck worker/possibly the owner Radan a chance. He has a dry personality, he is not going to be your favorite chatty bartender. It is a cultural thing, He’s a little reserved but he’s truly a nice guy. He rubbed me wrong when I first arrived with my friend and then I realize that English clearly was a second language so I cut him some slack. Good beer selection on tap & the infamous frankie’s brambory to die for. It definitely will be mentally added to 1 of the last bites I have on this earth. Yep it’s that good that it made my exclusive list.

This is my spot when I’m in the mood for a funky eastern European beer and a spaetzle. The bartenders steered me towards the Staropramen, and away from the Krusovice, as I recall.

Frankies used to be a great beer spot and food. real low key easy going good prices fun. Then someone took it over and turned it into a crappy wine bar with crappy food and it was crappy. Well, I’m happy to say that the old Frankie’s is back! they have the original menu, great rotating beers and wonderful staff behind the bar. Welcome Back!

I’ve only been to Frankie’s twice, however both times they served decent food, in very good quantities, and in a relaxed atmosphere. The most recent time I had a Groupon, a $ 60 value, that included a meal for two with appetizer, soup or salad, and 2 entrées. My wife and I decided on the Angels on Horses appetizer — fried bacon-wrapped shrimp served with cocktail sauce, Caesar salad, Greek salad, and 2 orders of Brambory: the«Bohemian» — grilled shrimp, mushrooms and grilled onions with bbq sauce, and«Texas Border» — slices of steak, guacamole, jalapenos and sour cream and a sprinkle of cheddar. The portions were sizable, and if we weren’t already starving, we would’ve had plenty to take home — even though we still ended up with a whole other meal for one. The Angels on Horses appetizer was very good, and the Greek salad was particularly good. The Brambory was less so, as it felt as if the potatoes and zucchini were a little overcooked, with the Bohemian in particular having been served with too much barbecue sauce. Better to have it on the side. The Texas Border was an interesting combination, which didn’t quite live up to its ingredients — but nevertheless — decent. The atmosphere was casual with only a half dozen patrons there. The best part was the beer as they have a selection of European-style Pilsners served in 22-ounce mugs, and considering the $ 5.50 price it was well worth it.

My mom bought a group on here for two appetizers and two entrees for a total up to $ 60 dollars. When we walked in the server seated us and instantly took our groupon. It was suspicious because normally they don’t take the groupon until the end. He instantly saw it on the table and slipped it into his pocket and handed us a menu. My mom came a few days before to see what food they offered and the guy handed her a togo menu and said anything on there was valid. However, the menu he handed us today had much significantly more expensive food and not as much of a variety. We decided to order chicken wings and jambalaya for the appetizers and I ordered ribs and my mom had the steak for our entrees. The chicken wings were actually really delicious but the jambalaya was horrible. It isn’t jambalaya at all. It is more like tomato soup with a few small pieces of sausage. It tasted as if it were from a can. No rice or anything in the soup. Also their tap water is straight from the sink. It isn’t even filtered with a brita filter or anything. It tastes terrible. The entrees were significantly over priced. The steak was no where near a 20 dollar steak and by ribs were the quality of sizzlers or the ribs at the Ikea cafeteria. Moreover, the steak was well over done when my mom ordered medium rare. When my mom bought the groupon, we were really looking forward to a authentic Czech meal which they advertised but instead its just a low quality American meal. The last straw was when the bill came. The guy only deduced 50 dollars off the bill when the groupon was for 60. When we told him the groupon was for 60 not 50 he said no it was for 50 and that he threw it away so we couldn’t refer to it. Seriously? Also he added a 15% tip for himself to the bill. It was just the two of us, I don’t feel like adding the tip yourself into the bill is appropriate. I would have tipped 15% regardless but it is rude to do it yourself. Overall, I would never come here again. Their menu looks as if it were made specifically for groupon customers so when the total is deduced, it averages out to what the meal is actually worth + he adds his own tip for mediocre service. I would not recommend this place at all and if you purchased a groupon, I would return it.

After a long day exploring the city I logged onto Groupon Now hoping for something exciting and different for dinner within our meager budget. We weren’t disappointed when we saw Frankie’s Bohemian Café. It promised Czech food and the Unilocal reviews mentioned Beef Stroganoff and Goulash Sold! We pulled up and found parking right in front and anyone who knows San Francisco knows what a bonus that is. The interior was dark and the friendly waiter had a nice smile and lit a candle at our table immediately. There were little square pillows at each seat which made it feel authentic. I chose the Stroganoff and my dining partner chose the pork something but the waiter said it was a bit sweet and convinced him to get the goulash. He obliged. Each came with the meat and the spetzel which you mixed together. A warm basket of light rye type sliced bread was served on the table. We both enjoyed it very much. We actually tried each others plate and liked the others better than our own. It was a fun experience. I would like to go back and try some of the other items on the menu or even the burgers and garlic fries.

Frankly, I’m a bit surprised reading some of the reviews. Well, guess what? If you want Eastern European food from Eastern Europe, maybe you should just go over there, freeze it, and bring it back if you can get it to clear customs. I’m satisfied knowing the place is run by Czechs, and they have the recipes to make the food tasty and worthy of Eastern Europe. I have no complaints about their goulash. I know this because I day dream about it. The other non-complaint this café has going for them, which I’m celebrating, is the beer selection. Staropramen, Stiegl, and Krusovice. Tell me again, where can you find those beers at any other non-German pub in San Francisco? That’s right, nowhere. This is the second location I can think of serving all three on draught. So, as long as the taste is there, the beer’s getting re-filled, and I’m having fun, I’ll keep stopping by! P. S. You know that saying about how you shouldn’t eat at a Chinese joint unless Chinese people are eating there? Well, same concept applies. Look around and you’ll hardly find anyone who doesn’t speak English with a strong European accent.

I’ve drove past this place every work day for the past 3 years and for some reason never got around to stopping by for a beer. Well when a couple of buddies called and said they were going to check the place out tonight, I took it as a sign that I finally needed to give it a try. The place is smaller than I expected, with a small bar and tables throughout the room(I say room because that’s pretty much all this place is.) It was Wednesday which apparently means they had 22oz. Krusovice Cerne and Imperial on tap for just $ 4 which is a pretty great deal. The menu is full of bar grub that’s REAL bar food and not the pretentious overpriced stuff that’s far to common in San Francisco. Hell they even offer american«cheese» for the burgers as one of the options. How awesomely anti-snob is that? Anyway, I ordered the buffalo fried chicken sandwich with the garlic fries and loved both. The chicken was moist and perfectly cooked, and the fries were loaded with garlic just how I like. This is very much a place to hang out with the guys. Big quality beers, big portions of simple tasty bar food, good prices, and an a laid back atmosphere. I’ll be coming back soon for sure.
