I went here last year for cinco de mayo. It was pretty crowded. I liked the energy here. They had a taco special. I wasn’t a fan of the half fried tortilla(‘TF?) but the meat & fish were incredibly tasty. I wouldn’t describe this place as authentic but it is good. Definitely worth a trip back.

We come here right before a dance night sometimes. And y’know, I’m so moved to say: the food is so-so, priced 2x what it’s worth, the drinks are sugary, and the chips are cheap and reminiscent of white, crisp cardboard. If you’re looking for a place that has a full bar and food, this fits the bill. But I’d rather goto the sushi place nearby any day. You’d spend the same and your stomach will like you more later.

I gotta be honest. I get really annoyed and fairly protective when people knock this place. Sort of like a big brother looking out for his younger sibling. Sometimes you have to appreciate a place like this for what it is before you give it a 1 or 2 star review. Is Tortilla Heights the type of place that has unbelievably delicious, uniquely plated Mexican food? No, they’re not Don Pisto’s. But they don’t claim to be. Is their food pretty damn solid? Yes. Are the margaritas good? Yes. Is the atmosphere fun and family friendly? Yes. Is the service consistently pleasant? Yes. These are the things that define Tortilla Heights. I come here all the time with my family and we always have a good time. Simply put, Tortilla Heights is what it is. I get the feeling that a lot of people on Unilocal don’t appreciate that. Dumb and Dumber was never an Oscar contender, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. That’s Tortilla Heights.

Here on a Wednesday happy hour and everything was PERFECT! The chips and salsa are epic and food is always fast and delicious. Dawn and Chase are the best and really made it feel like home! Definitely will be back!!!

I finally came here after living in the city for 4 years. I heard it was good for groups and that they took reservations. We were off to a good start before we even arrived, but the stars are for the atmosphere and the service. Once at the table, I didn’t feel like thinking too hard so I had my server, Jesse, order apps & booze for the entire table… We crushed the margarita pitchers and when it was time to order entrees most of us were too drunk so our server did it for us. The crispy tacos hit the spot, and the bill would have been a lot higher had we been at many other SF locations.

I have always wanted to try this place and I think I would come back here for their Happy Hour, when I came I was trying to not drink any alcohol and«be responsible» or something of that sort… Next time I will make sure thats not happening. ANYWAYS The food is what you expect, I was thinking the menu would have more to offer on it. But anyways, left satisfied and full. I had fajitas, I would of taken a picture but its kinda dark in their and I didn’t want to be that person, taking pictures of their food… with flash, liiiiike I swear its not for Instagram… Service was really friendly all around from the host, our server and busser. But I’ll be back for you happy hour.

I’ve lived down the street from Tortilla Heights for three years now and it’s my go to spot for dinner with a fun vibe, happy hour, and those random margarita cravings I get. Their margaritas taste fresh and pure, with just the right amount of bite. The chips and salsa are… addicting. Come here ready to eat, because the portions are big and the chips, endless. The tacos are hands down my favorite dish, and in second place, the chile relleno. One of the best parts about TH is the staff. Every time I go the service is excellent. The weekend dinner rush happens thursday through saturday, so you’ll definitely want to make a reservation before heading in.

The burritos were excellent! Two types of fish burritos, both worth trying. They had a grapefruity margarita concoction, which i loved. My husband had the chili rellenos, and claimed they were some of the best he ever had. My only complaint(and it’s a big one) is that when I ate here during happy hour last week, we were charged full price for our drinks. Why call it happy hour? More like«force you to choose between feeling like a bit of a tool for asking for your bill to be adjusted or go home feeling totally suckered» hour. Our bill was huge! We were in a hurry and just paid and left or i would have opted to feel like a tool. I don’t care how good the food is, being over charged isn’t worth it. Not going back. PS, I didn’t think the chips and salsa were anything special. Just my two cents. Not sure what others are raving about.

Good food good service — our server brieyene was really great she made the perfect recommendation and even got an extra glass so my husband and I could share a beer — she was friendly and authentic not just like any server wanting to recommend the most expensive — we would just come back for her great service. The music was a little cheezy for my taste!

This place is OK. I used to live in the neighborhood and would go every now and then, as it seemed like it was always open and I didn’t really need a reservation. On the plus side, they have a good bar. Drinks are good and plentiful. If you need something casual, low key or want to throw a few back, this is a solid option. On the negative side, the food is just OK. I’ve never left satisfied. One time I felt like the ingredients werent’ fresh, another time the food was cold, another time the food was bland and another time the food was outstanding. I’m not sure if they have a chef who’s only in some of the time, but it’s just so hit or miss. Also, the service tends to be average-decent. Sometimes the waitstaff comes off as rude, but it’s probably because they are just busy and trying to get a million things done(I get the feeling that this place is operating at the very limit of what’s you might call the ratio of waitstaff to customers).

Mouse in the house. The restaurant environment and the food were great. Best nacho basket I’ve had in a while! BUT, unfortunately for me and everyone in there. There was a mouse that was visiting between the two tables next to me. Only my roommate and I and a table full of guys in the back saw it. After both tables notifying the staff, they brought us all complimentary tequila shots and offered us desert. But most disturbingly, the staff didn’t seem concerned at all. Like. At all. «Just another mouse, ignore it and give them booze» was the vibe I got. Quite alarming. Needless to say, I’m super depressed that my first experience turned out to involve a furry friend and that I can’t bring myself to go there again. No matter how yummy the nacho basket is.

The margarita took over 20 minutes to get to me and was way too sour. It didn’t even taste fresh. The waitress was a little on the ditzy side which was annoying. Overall this place is going to be added to the list of places that I will not visit when Im in town. On to the next one!

The waitresses are pretty perky/annoying and pester you to order quickly. When you tell them to give you one minute they give you 20 minutes before circling back and introducing themselves again(memory of a goldfish much?). The food is brought out pretty quickly and is average on taste. They do supply chips and salsa as a complementary appetizer(which is awesome!) and will replenish on request. I like when mexican restaurants do that. The price was very reasonable given its location(it’s hard to find mexican restaurants north of Market). My girlfriend was insulted by the waitress one time I came: Me: I’ll have a margarita. My girlfriend: Me too. Waitress: Sure, I’ll just have to see your ID(speaking to me). Me: *hands over ID* My friend: *takes out ID* Waitress:(to my girlfriend) Oh, not you. You’re clearly old enough to drink. Thought that was pretty rude.

Amazing salsa! Amazing housemade tortillas! My boyfriend and I planned on coming here for my birthday and we made a special trip out to pac heights. I soooo badly wanted nachos for my birthday dinner and on my second bowl of complimentary chips I had to tell myself out loud to STOPEATINGCHIPS. YOUORDEREDMORECHIPS. He ordered the southwest chicken salad and we split a house margarita(rocks/no salt) just to taste it as we had spent the previous hour and a half at the Fishbowl for happy hour. My nachos were the best thing that ever happened to me. I ordered it with carne asada and it came with gooey melty jack cheese, refried beans, guac, pico, jalapenos and picked carrots NOMMMM… My boyfriend enjoyed his salad and I had a bite of the chicken which was marinated and grilled to perfection(although I knew it would be, that’s why I picked this place for dinner) and the margarita was stiff and flavorful. The service was swift and friendly and the food was cooked to perfection. I’ll be back soon.

Complimentary chips and salsa are bomb. Their other food is pretty on par too, big portions with good service. They’re known for the Nick’s crisy tacos but I have never tried them myself since I’m more of a burrito fan. It can get pretty busy on a weekend night so it can be a bit of a wait but they have a bar to pass the time. I also happened to stop by for dinner once when they were having a customer appreciation day and giving out complimentary margaritas, can’t beat a free drink!

Food: Decent. If I was to go back, I would get the Crispy Taco’s again. The pollo was ok, the carnitas was pretty good. Unfortunately, due to the service, I won’t be going back. Ambiance: Dark Service: Awful The food was decent, but the service was ABSOLUTELYAWFUL. Once we sat down, they kept pushing us to order. The place wasn’t even close to busy and the staff acted like they were trying to turnover the table immediately. This was before we ate. Once we were done eating, they took two of our credit cards to split the bill. About 20 minutes later, the waitress comes over and claims she«lost» one of the credit cards somwhere between our table and the back service area. We kept calm and they kept looking for it. Another 15 minutes goes by and they«find» the credit card… it was in the credit card machine. Obviously, mistakes happen so we were understanding, but they really were quite awful about righting their wrongs. Anyone with half a sense for customer service would’ve offered us another round of beer while we waited for them to find the card they lost or comp’d a few of the beers on our bill. Instead they give us 3 coupons for a free margarita the next time we come. Sorry. there will not be a next time.

It seems like every few months or so THeights makes some minor changes, and to be honest, they’re never for the better. I mean, none of them are absolutely horrible(well…except when they stopped doing fish tacos«Nicks way, THAT was a travesty), but I can definitely take or leave this place now. I was in here recently(after not having been for a few months, which is a long time for me!) and I noticed that once again the menu had some tweaks. To be honest, on paper I LIKED the menu more! I like the whole 3 taco or 2 mini burrito deal that you can mix and match with many different options. However, the food has gotten worst! I had two mini burritos(1 carnitas &1 chicken), and in both cases(especially the chicken) the meat was dry. Also there wasn’t a lot of it. The beans & rice were bland as well. I mean, when Mexican food comes w/beans & rice it’s often and after thought, but with this meal they stood out for the wrong reasons. Queso dip is still good though. At the end of the day THeights is still a good place at accommodating large groups, and the food isn’t SO bad, but it’s not good to the point where it’s a place I’m excited to go to regularly anymore.

First time dining here on Saturday for the Giants game because some of the reviewers said they have tvs(thanks Unilocal!). Great atmosphere. i wished i came here sooner. Pretty average size restaurant — bar in the front decorated like a tiki bar stocked with lots of variety of alcohol especially tequila! Two TVs and bar seating in the front. In the back — plenty of tables and they even had a huge projector at eye view. I been to some restaurants that hung their small projector screen on tv(lame!). Quick and attentive customer service. Margaritas are awesome and STRONG! i think Tortilla Heights maybe my second favorite place for margaritas after UnderDogs Taco Bar and best of all they are made skinny! Food — free chips and salsa Ordered the carne asada fajita plate — huge portions and the meat was flavorful. Friend had carnitas wrapped in a green leaf. pretty good. Huge portion too! overall, my friend and i had a blast and the manager? Charlie was nice enough to give us two free drink cards. I’m definitely going to come back here again and check out their happy hour specials! $ 5 tequila shots all night?! WHAT? I’m there :)
