Don’t see why people dislike this place so much. I can’t speak to whether it’s authentic. And… if you want healthy food I don’t know why you’d come here to begin with. They have great meat dishes with rice and good boba drinks. Free wifi and you can watch TV too. Seems like a solid place to have lunch if you’re hungry.

PRO: Conveniently close. Prices are cheap. Food is average, gets the job done. CON: Avoid coming here between the hours of 3−5PM if you want to maintain your sanity and not punch a bopper in the face.(Located dreadfully close to 2 middle schools and a high school will create this effect).

Not the best hawaiian food but it does the job! They have their combos pictured neatly on the wall which make each one look appetizing — something hawaiian places usually don’t do. They also have an extensive milk tea/slushee menu which is always a plus in my book. The food here is average. The Katsu is crispy, not much chicken, and tastes kinda plain which the sauce does fix. The Chicken teriyaki seemed kind of slimy. ehh. but has a nice taste though. The meat teriyaki tasted fresh. The macaroni is good and rice soft and sticky =] They have different musubi’s and the portugese sausage musubz was nom. I got the oreo slush and it was pretty damn good, very sweet! Will give this place another chance to try the pulled pork, kal bi, and milk tea.

I should have insisted we go across the street to the Original. The servings are smaller, the meat drier, and just not up to what I get across the street. But the salad that comes with your meal is OK, it can’t make up for it. The only plus is free Wi-Fi and they accept credit /debit cards.

Do yourself a favor, stay away, stay far away!!! If you need to have Hawaiian food, go across the street or to the Hawaiian Drive in on San Bruno Ave. The Chicken Katsu is dry and tasteless. Also, like a previous review, it was all breading, no chicken. Absolutely worst Hawaiian meal I ever had, and now thinking twice before having Hawaiian again. I would rate it zero stars if there was an option

I should have known better than to go to the«cleaner looking» Hawaiian BBQ place instead of the grundgier looking one across the street. This place looks promising, but when it comes to food, it’s very lacking. I ordered the chicken katsu, BBQ chicken and spam musubi. First off, the spam was very thin on the musubi. I’ve never seen that before! It tasted like a rice musubi. It’s difficult to screw up a musubi, but somehow they’ve done it here. The chicken katsu was very, very thin also. It felt like I was just eating the breading. I usually don’t use katsu sauce, but I decided to check it out anyway. When I opened the little container, the sauce was almost solid… jelly-like. It was pretty gross. Mac salad was also made of total fail. It just tasted like pure mayo. The boyfriend said his tasted like bleu cheese. Don’t know what that means but he had the runs the rest of the day. And I can still taste the grease from the katsu whenever I burp(TMI? You have to know the truth so you won’t make the same mistake we did). I ate this yesterday. I hate to give new small places such a bad review because I wanna see small businesses do well, but I just can’t endorse this food. I’ll have to try the place across the street out.

I am definitely not singing Drake’s «Best I ever had» right now… I was missing paradise and decided to spot by I ordered the Kalbi«bbq short ribs» because I missed Pearl’s and L&L’s on Oahu. But unfortunately this is no paradise not even an Oasis in the Mission. It is however a good attempt at Hawaiian style bbq. So Mahalo for your internet and low prices and Aloha

The restaurant looks nice. They serve a lot items. However, their food tastes bland. I am referring to the loco moko, katsu, and macaroni salad. The people who work there seems to be clueless about what good Hawaiian food is supposed to be. It seems to be run more like a Quickly Tapioca franchise than a Hawaiian BBQ place. That is, overwhelm the customer with a huge selection and low prices and hope that the customer will find something that works for him/her. If you want better Hawaiian food, go to the Hawaiian BBQ place across the street and further north on Mission street.

Don’t be fooled or in a rush because I totally messed up! We accidently went here instead of the one across the street(that Unilocalers rave about) and didn’t realize it till we were walking back. BOOOOOO! Who knew there could be two places SO close. Oh well. Learn from my mistake! Moving on… The chain L&L is so much better than this place. The mac salad, the shining star of a Hawaiian bbq meal, was bland bland bland. The atmosphere made me feel like they bought the discount unwanted florescent paint and picked up whatever was on sale at Ikea. The hubby got the fried fish plate and I settled for a Bbq chicken salad. Chicken was good, but the ranch dressing was thick and gross. His fish was okay, and they gave him plenty of it. We won’t be back.

Website stated they close at 10:00pm. Called in at 9:25pm for pick up. No one answered my call. BOOOOOO! I’m going to have to re-think about coming here next time. I love their food — but you get the not-so-satisfying customer service here — LONGWAIT. One time I had to wait 20 minutes for one short ribs meal. TWENTY F – KINGMINUTES! If you come here, you’ll get delicious food but usually with a wait time. Come early if you’re hungry. And bring a book to read while waiting.

I am not a huge fan of Hawaiian BBQ, but I do like the BBQ Chicken at this place. The store is clean with plenty of room and friendly staff. I have tried some of their side orders, rolls, fries and they are pretty good for the price. Nothing special, probably frozen, but cooked to order. The BBQ chicken is great, I get it with rice and Broccoli. The Mac salad is just too heavy for me, but not anything different from what you might find at any other Hawaiian joint. Portion sizes are fairly generous for the price, so consider ordering a mini if you’re dining alone. I like to go on Saturday afternoons for lunch when the place isn’t packed with famished high school students after school. Best Thai Tea Boba I’ve had in the city. Service can be a little slow, but everything comes to the table piping hot. So I’m happy to wait a few minutes. They also offer loyalty cards for Boba and Meals — buy ten get one free.

I’ve always eaten at the Hawaiian Drive Inn across the street and wondered whether daKine’s was any good. I always see kids hanging around inside the daKine’s and after finally glancing at one of their menus this weekend I think I understand why. The menu at daKine’s is larger than the one at Hawaiian Drive Inn. They have more burger and sandwich options, more side order and finger food type snacks and they offer milk teas, slushes, icees and tropical fruit drinks whereas the Hawaiian Drive Inn does not. The menus are available on the outside of the front door. I finally convinced myself to go in after looking through one. I’ve always had a liking for plate lunches even though I know all that meat and starch isn’t very good for me, but bad foods tend to make me happy especially so on gray, dreary afternoons. I was greeted by a nice young lady at the counter who spoke softly and very politely. I ordered a regular size Loco Moco and a small soft drink, selected rice and macaroni salad as my two accompaniments, paid and took a seat. I liked the fact that the young lady asked me how much ice I wanted in my drink. Most people don’t; they just give you a cup of ice and enough soda to top off the cup. She also gave me a frequent user card where you collect ten stamps and your eleventh plate lunch is free. Considering I was the only customer ordering food at the time the wait from the kitchen was an ultimate failure. Luckily they had a television mounted on the wall and they were showing an interesting program on the manufacturing of refrigeration units and those cool animated robots at Disneyland. I had time to check my email and reply to a couple of those emails. Over twenty minutes had passed before my plate lunch got called. I had no complaints about the portion size although you definitely get more food with a regular size across the street. They even gave me three eggs instead of two served sunny side up( ). The brown gravy that topped everything was super salty, and anything good that could have come from this plate lunch was ruined. The two hamburger patties had way too much pepper in its seasoning, so much that I couldn’t detect any beef taste. The macaroni salad was bland and tasted like pasta and mayo with nothing else. This was easily the worst Loco Moco plate lunch that I’ve ever encountered. If not for the nice young lady at the counter this would be a dreadful one star review. I don’t think I’ll be using that frequent user card.

I was going to rate this place a 4 star because of the really cheap food that tastes pretty good that has an excellent delivery range with amazing mac salad but I am rating it 3 stars because I believe they changed their mac salad recipe to a mayo-mac type of thing that is absolutely horrible. almost made me vomit because it was just too much mayo dunno if it was a fluke, will order one more time to see if they change it EDIT: I tried asking if they could make the mac salad like they use to and they just couldn’t understand what I was saying, but I feel like they have been doing a better job lately so I’ve boosted it to a 4 — not to mention its VERYVERYCHEAP! O and did I mention they deliver?

I believe I got some chicken with my oil. Wait, isn’t it supposed to be the other way around? They were nice, and it didn’t kill me, hence the second star. But if I don’t wake up tomorrow, can someone take away a star for me?

Ah braddah, I’m hungry, but I’m lazy. Let’s order in… k’den? An hour later… Finally the food has arrived, let’s grind! Mmmm Chicken Katsu. The portion was planny, enough for two. I was hoping to say«da buggah was ono», but unfortunately, the meat was rubbery. The spam musubi had WAYY to much rice, which I had to scrape off. The BBQ chicken was standard, definitely not onolicious. So what broke da mout? The spring rolls… they were about the only thing that was good. Da price was right and the portions are generous, but I don’t think it’s worth it.

Dakine’s Hawaiian food is the express train to fat-ass. Seriously the shit is coated in fat and sprinkled with sugar, then sprayed with lard. That being said, it can hit the spot when it’s 11:30 and it’s the only thing open So if you are a sumo wrestler or just don’t care about ever having sex with anyone attractive ever again, come here and order up some 5000 calorie combination plates.

Matt and niece were in the Outer Mission for an early lunch. Despite of the jagged neighborhood, this Hawaiian place is one of Matt’s bookmarked locations. Looking at the menu from this Chinese family operation, the meals are reasonably affordable. Matt had the #10 Loco-Moco Meal and she had the BBQ Beef lunch plate. Both of our meals cost $ 6.00 each. Matt’s meal contained 2 hamburger patties cooked Hawaiian style, 2 eggs prepared sunny side-up. Her beef plate had diced up beef prepared with the Teriyaki-twist. Both our meals came with rice and a scoop of potato-salad. We had a small bottle of water. We were enjoying our meal while watching the restaurant’s television, which had ESPN at the time. We didn’t enjoy watching the funeral of Sean Taylor, but we did watch greatest plays from last weekend. Niece loves to watch rookie-sensation running back Adrian Peterson making dazzling zig-zag moves to the end zone. Notwithstanding, the restaurant is in the outer-Mission, the workers and owners conversed with us like a family. And we enjoyed coming here and feel welcomed.

This may be a case for Detective Steve McGarrett of Hawaii Five-O…because right across the street from the glorified lunch counter that is Hawaiian Drive-In #28 is this place. It’s the case of the dueling aloha eateries, brudda… but take it easy, man… choice is good. DaKine’s has a bigger menu — full of your standard Hawaiian island plates and saimin bowls plus a full slate of milk teas, slushes and snows. It may look more like a rejected Orange Julius stand, but it’s cleaner and the staff is a lot friendlier. Of course, I ordered the DaKine’s Special Saimin for $ 4.85, which had shrimp, onions and fishcakes along with the noodles and hot, hot broth. It was good, still not Island-level…but it’s the best I’ve had in the city so far. All the regular-sized island plates — loco moco, kal-bi, mahi mahi, spam & eggs — hover around $ 6, and they offer mini versions that are a little more than $ 4. They also have bigger plates like the Kahlua pig for $ 6.95 and the seafood/BBQ combo for $ 7.25. I have to tell you the best part was when I ordered the lychee slush with the chunks of lychee at the bottom. Very sweet and refreshing stuff for about $ 3. This place is in the way-Outer Mission, kind of a pain unless you’re in the area. But definitely try it if you have an island hankering. Book ‘em, Dan-O! FOOD — 3.5 stars… good saimin, better slush AMBIANCE — 3.5 stars… cleaner and more spacious than the place across the street if that’s any consolation SERVICE — 4 stars… fast and helpful TOTAL — 4 stars… the lychee slush tips this one over… I could see McGarrett, Dan-O and Chin Ho here, but I think Wo Fat would be more comfortable at the Drive-In
