Dagwood has good sandwiches that hit the spot when I’m at work. They have some creative italian style sandwiches and they cut the meat fresh when you order it. Two major plusses. Only neg is the bread – which is fine, but it feels more like the store bought bagged bread than bakery fresh. I recommend Dagwood.

I was going to go somewhere else, but they were closed by 4. Not from SF, I was looking for a place close to 21st and Hampshire. This place popped up as the closes place Open, and I’m glad it was because this place is good. I got the Holy Mole toasted. Bomb. The little Wow cookies too.

The sandwiches are tasty so go there if you are nearby and craving a sandwich. I used to go here a lot as it is practically a neighborhood institution but stopped going due to bad service. I have had one of the guys make me the completely wrong sandwich and then tell me that I didn’t know what I ordered. Another time a guy leaning on the counter wouldn’t take my order; simply saying«I’m on break» after I said hello. While another guy scooping ice cream barked«no sandwiches» over his shoulder. They have a great selection of drinks and snacks as well. Now that Pal’s is closed its a good option for a good sandwich. So I’m not saying don’t go here. Just don’t be me and go here I guess.

The service: I asked for my sub not toasted, and then I heard the guy who took my order ask the other guy why he put it in the oven. They tried to pretend like it didn’t happen, and then when I said I asked for ‘not toasted,’ they had an attitude about it. The sandwich: An 8″ sub with one slice of cheese? One tomato? Three thin slices of turkey? A ton of filler lettuce? The bread was definitely filling, but I came for a sandwich, not for bread. The sandwich counter at Safeway is way better. And cheaper.

My sandwich is subtlety wholesome and tasty. Prices were very affordable. A wide variety of awesome snacks to select from too! Solid!(I ordered the holy mole on wheat roll)

I got my sandwich and guy who made it didn’t wash his hands, didn’t wear gloves, was handling my food with his bare hands and then touching his phone while he was waiting for my bread to heat up and then went on touching my sandwich! So gross

Nice place, friendly guys, great price and size of portion — but I got the Rasta and it wasn’t really that good. It was okay. I’m gonna go back sometime and try a different Sammie.

I like the Early Bird, Dagwood, and the Muffalata here! I have yet to try the others. Sandwich bread should be toasted :)

Walk a little further from SFGH to try this sandwich shop out. I ordered the ragin cajun sandwich and I did not like it. The flavors of the sandwich did not go well together. The sandwich is composed of turkey meat that has the creole spice throughout each slice, creole spread on the bread, and banana peppers. So no lettuce, tomatoes, or any other sandwich veggies. The sandwich was too spicy for me andI like spicy food, but not to the point that I can’t enjoy the taste of what I am eating. Furthermore, the taste of the spicy turkey with banana peppers did not go well together. Maybe if this sandwich had the regular sandwich toppings(lettuce, tomatoes, etc) the taste would balance out, but as ragin cajun is now, it is a sandwich full of overly spicy meat mixed with uncomplimentary tastes. The sandwich is big and fitting for its price, service is good, place is clean, has space for you to sit, and the shop is easy for you to find. Maybe I will return for another sandwich or just for ice cream.

Awesome food and awesome staff! Best damn muffalata that I’ve had in a long time! To top it off, while I was eating my sandwich, one of the staff gave me a complimentary tasting cup of one of their signature milkshakes to enjoy! Now that is class!

Tasty? Yes. Artisanal? Not really. Reasonably priced? Yes. HEY, that’s becoming a rarer an rarer thing in SF, take it when it comes. I will and do take it. And eat it. Ordered from here via Eat24 after another sandwich spot was closed early due to kitchen staff issues(I’m looking at you St. Francis Fountain) Ordered: Not So Reuben Sandwich & Just Beef It Sandwich Someone called immediately after the order to say they didn’t have the sourdough rolls we requested so, what other options would work. We re-selected sweet rolls. I was impressed with this level of service from a sandwich shop. These guys strike me as perfectly crafted deli sandwiches with just the right ratio of meat to «crunchy thing» be it, pepper, slaw or pickle. So, I mean is it a «16.50, your-cow-was-named-Imelda, served on rosemary and sea salt encrusted focaccia covered in the finest Gruyère, with individually placed pickled baby carrots in a complex brine» sandwich? No. But, it’s still good. And someone else on 24th street can provide that«other» kind of experience for you, if you need it. tl;dr: Their delivery was speedy and nice(pretty sure the guy that delivered was the same that called me to pick roll replacements). Their sandwiches and service good. And they have Mitchell’s. Who doesn’t love Mitchell’s? Solid lunch option all around I would say.

Doesn’t the name sound like a detective buddy TV series from the ’70’s? I can almost hear the bouncy theme song penned by Mike Post, something that sounds like a mix between«The Rockford Files» and«Magnum P. I». The opening credits would be a montage of images showing how Dagwood is the straight-laced one who does everything by the book, while Scoops is the comically slovenly womanizer who always gets the two of them in trouble with his wild-eyed shenanigans. Well, that was certainly a long, irrelevant preamble to this popular sandwich shop on 24th, but I’m not sure how else to describe a place that makes Ike’s-like creations while offering a half-dozen flavors of Mitchell’s ice cream on the side. The overhead sandwich board was pretty robust with at least twenty signature sandwiches listed plus daily specials as well as the option to build your own. It was all too much for me to absorb on my virginal visit, so I impulsively decided on the reasonably priced $ 7 Bay of Pigs since it sounded like a Cubano, which I usually like. The sandwich had slices of smoked pork loin, ham and Swiss cheese in a pressed ciabatta roll slathered in Dijon mustard and stuffed with dill pickles(photo: ). It was pretty good although nothing that outstanding compared to other Cubanos. I didn’t have room or time for the ice cream, but I’m sure Scoops would have stuck his head in there while Dagwood would look on in horror. FOOD — 3 stars… a decent, sort-of Cubano shows sandwiches that provide some satisfaction AMBIANCE — 3 stars… just a sammie shop with a great name SERVICE — 2.5 stars… a bit matter-of-fact in their approach TOTAL — 3 stars… I think they’re remaking Dagwood & Scoops as a streaming series on Netflix

Worth trying but not necessarily returning. The sandwiches were good but not great, fresh ingredients and well prepared but nothing knocks your socks off in terms of flavor. I had the Dagwood on Dutch Crunch and also tried the pastrami on a soft roll and both were just OK.

They have decent sandwiches, but nothing I’d go out of the way for. I’ve tried their Big Bird and Not So Reuben, and neither was memorable enough that I’d want them again. Structurally nice and tight sandwich, but the flavors weren’t there for me. Although the two sandwiches are very different(one turkey based, one pastrami/salami), I didn’t get a signature feel from either of them. Both need more meat maybe. Ice cream offerings are a plus, but I’d still opt for a thing of three twins from one of the corner stores nearby. Anyways, they keep a clean, tidy shop and are friendly! It could just be my personal taste. Give them a try.

Ahhh Dagwood. Named after Blondie’s Dagwood Bumstead, a dagwood sando incorporates a variety of meats, cheeses, and condiments, and is sometimes so massive, it requires a handscrew clamp to smoosh it all down to bite-able size. And let me tell you, folks, Dagwood & Scoops does not disappoint. Though you don’t really need a handscrew clamp to eat these bad boys, they do fill you way up, and leave you satisfied. I first went in a couple months ago with Mal G and we split the Muffalata sandwich: ham, mortadella, salami, capicola, provolone, olive spread, Italian dressing, marinated peppers. I had doubts at first since I usually stay away from marinated peppers and olive spreads in general, but I wanted to try something new. The meats were fresh and savory, the bread was soft and warm. It was an instant hit with both of us. We paired it with Sweet Onion chips. Perfecto! This time around my boy and I did a repeat with the Muffalata but on a Sourdough roll, and also got a Big Bird(roasted turkey, roasted garlic, pesto, white cheddar, lettuce, tomato) to share. He liked the Big Bird more because he’s a fan of pesto. Me? I thought it was dec at best. I don’t care for how they cut their lettuce: shredded, the smell of it reminded me of old Subway, no bueno. We both got chips to share also. He went with Zapp’s VooDoo, I got Dirty Jalepeno. Upong biting in, we looked at each other like, «ummm whaaa??» as each bad of chips had a distinctively odd flavor, like they had been either sitting on the shelf too long, or they had been involved in some kind of nuclear attack and stayed in their bags, quivering with fear. Not sure why the chips tasted off, but you can’t win ‘em all. If I had to do it again, I’d probably just get chips from the store across the street. Overall, Dagwood is a solid sandwich shop, the guys working there are very nice and totally local, and they offer treats to finish your meal off in decadent sweetness. We were eyeballing their selection of Mitchell’s ice creams but had to catch the bus over to Blackthorn to watch the Giants win game 4.

Just Beef It Sandwich on Dinner roll Roast beef, horseradish, white cheddar, dill pickles. Paulie’s Dagwood on Dutch Crunch Roast turkey, black forest ham, salami, roast beef, Swiss, provolone, marinated peppers, mustard, mayo, dag sauce, artichoke hearts, lettuce, tomato. I thought they were both just ok. Nothing special. The bread wasn’t that great on either. The flavors were just Ok for everything else. The potato salad and macaroni salad were just whatever as well. The potato salad was super peppery. All this average food for $ 25. I guess the Dagwood was big but I didn’t eat it all because it was just not that great.
