I was in San Francisco this weekend for work and my hair was driving me crazy. I’ve been growing it out in order to donate it and it was finally long enough. I searched for salons with good ratings as I was making a drastic change. I also needed a place I didn’t need an appointment for. I was so very lucky to find Hooch! He was phenomenal, did a great job on the haircut and was extremely kind as well. I would definitely go to him again if I lived in the area.

Hooch has been coloring and styling my hair for about 10 years now. I wouldn’t consider going to anyone else! My hair always looks natural and is styled beautifully. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Joy B. San Francisco, CA

It was one of these days I really felt like cutting my hair and needed to have it done NOW. Hooch was the 5th salon I called, he was available I met him 10 minutes later. I know I am pretty daring. I LOVE him and the result I am so happy to have found my hairstylist. I am a cheap ass and if I can pay $ 20 for a haircut I don’t see the need to spend $ 65. Well let me tell you: You get what you pay for and I am so so happy with what he did! I have asked for years my $ 20 lady to do what he did and she always said your hair is to thin, too curly etc. He did it and I adore him for that. I will see you soon Hooch.

I am a huge fan of Hooch. Some of the best pricing in downtown San Francisco, but the service and care of top-notch salon. Like most people, I can be fussy about my hair. Hooch takes extra time and care to get the haircut just right… even if a touch-up a week later is needed. Highly recommended!

I’ve been going to Hooch for about a year now and followed him to his new location on Drumm Street(inside Peninsula Beauty Supply). I have weirdly thick wavy hair(think cowlicks all over the place) and flat-iron it often, but he does indulge my need to go «au naturel» at times so he gives me a cut that works for both wavy and straight. I actually trust him so much, I just go into a zen state and close my eyes and wake up with a new do! He is also a true professional. I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for him — 99.9% of the time I’m in and out in 45 minutes(cut and blow dry). This means a lot to me as I only have an hour lunch-break and previous downtown hairstylists have kept me waiting for up to half an hour which is not good for keeping my boss happy. Also, Hooch is great fun to talk to. He has a wicked sense of humor, and is funny as hell!

Years ago Hooch helped me fix a burnt scalp problem that I got from the most expensive salon in town. He knows color and cut, and won’t overcharge you. And, he always cracks me up!

I have been going to «Hootch»(Hooshang Davanloo) for many years, since the Jackson Street days. Every time I try someone else my friends remind me that Hootch does it best. I have fine thinning hair and he makes it look full and strong. His prices are fair and conversation is good. He is the«yellow pages» of my life. Whatever I am looking for or whatever the problem, he has a contact or a solution. A true professional, really enjoys making everyone look good. I wish I could have him do my hair every day.

I agree with the other reviewers. Hooch has been cutting my hair for more than six years. He’s willing to follow detailed instructions(and normally remembers any specifics) but if you just let him do his thing, the results will be good. Fun conversation makes his speedy styling seem even faster. He also gives a good price and definitely great value.

I have been a client of this salon, throughout its many reincarnations, for the past 15 years. Right now, the salon is a one-man operation, manned by the owner/stylist«Hooch» who is located inside the Akimi Hair Gallery. Hooch has everything for everyone… he can do traditional/conservative cuts as well as contemporary fashion-forward styles as well. He can follow your instructions to the letter if you are very particular about what you want, or, if you’re clueless and devil-may-care(like me) he will unleash his creativity on your head and surprise you. In a good way. He does a fantastic job with highlights and his cuts are top-notch, as for my short hair the biggest test is how the cut grows out and looks after a couple of weeks. And, I kid you not, I get stopped on the street all the time… by people who want to know where I get my hair done. The last time was a jogger who ran past then did a 180 to stop me. This was at 7am when I was sneaking out in my jammies to put the netflix in the mail.(Wow, was my bed-head looking that good?) A couple of other things: for you people on the move, the man is fast. Shampoo, cut, color and style? No problem, you’re out the door in little more than an hour. For you people who need recommendations on certain hair care products, Hooch will be able to answer all your questions. For you people on a shoestring budget… his prices are super reasonable and he gives free bang trims/touch-ups. What more could you ask for in a stylist?
