Got food delivered at home. Nan was uncooked at some parts. Veggie dish had masalas that tasted raw too. Looks like a few people have mentioned about the raw tasting food! Overall food was one star quality. Not ordering again.

Like the food, but 1 ½ hour wait time for delivery on a Tuesday? Food was cold and it does NOT come with rice, although we didn’t see a regular side of rice option on the menu to order. Really disappointing.

I’m not giving this place one star because of their service, they were great. Nor because of the food, the food was also great. But because of their ventilation system. I came out of the restaurant smelling like food(curry, fried food etc.). My hair, clothes, shoes even wallet all smelled of the food. As soon as I got home I had to take a shower to get the smell out of my hair and skin. I hung my jacket and clothes in the backyard to air them out but two days later they still smelled. I ended up washing everything to get the smell out, including my boots, wallet and credit cards. So long story short, if this place can get a better ventilation system, they would be awesome but until then, I’m not going back.

I like Indian food. And this place just confirmed this. Recommended tika masala, naan. it’s really delicious. Will come back soon. Rice desert, kind of complementary, was good. Thanks, guys.

We went for dinner and food was average/below average. The waiter wasn’t rude, but wasn’t nice either and tried to get you to order as many items as possible. Also, beware when you order rice/naan. You have to explicitly say the number of orders you want otherwise they’ll get each one of you in the table an order even if it doesn’t logically make sense given the amount of servings on their entrée. We will never ever go back to this restaurant.

The worst meal I have ever had, period. I’ve eaten at their buffet before, which is fine. However, after my dining experience last night, I won’t be coming back. We ordered the garlic naan and chana masala with rice. The naan was slightly undercooked but the flavor was alright. The real disappointment was the chana masala. It was so bitter we could not eat it. The spices must have been off because something was clearly very wrong with the dish. Absolutely disgusting. The waiter was rude, but that has always been the case for us here. Bottom line, I would avoid this place. SF has too many excellent options for Indian food for you to waste your money here.

Ordered take out. The moment I walked in, the restaurant felt so open and clean. All the employees looked up, smiled and greeted me. They also served me some good Indian Chai tea while I waited for my food. Overall service is good. I had the garlic and onion Naan with chicken vindaloo extra spicy. And oh boy, they don’t joke around when u ask for extra spicy. I will definitely come back to try some their other items.

One of the best, delicious Indian restaurants in Bay Area. If you love Indian food, then this is the place you should visit. I have been in a lot of Indian restaurants, but this place is special, because most the Indian restaurants have problem with sanitation-cleanliness, but this place is the exception! Vindaloo, Tikka Masala, Samosa, Nan…

These guys don’t know how to cook Indian food specially when Bay Area is so famous for Indian food. We order onion bhaji OMG it was horrible, Chana Masala was half cooked !!! Bad service … Bad food. Stay away !!!

Took parents here for lunch, nice vegetarian selection for mom and dad, food could have been warmer for the buffet but we did get there at the tail end. Did I mention all the waiters were all super cute? :)

Very good food. We have always had a wonderful experience here and would recommend the food here to anyone. The staff is caring, and an integral part of the community of West Portal. Do yourself a favor and take the time to experience a local treasure.

This place is pretty good food. I have been a handful of times over the years. Here is what you need to know. Pricey — This place is expensive even for a Indian restaurant which is going to be more money for a dish then other cuisines. Tip: Eat during lunch buffet which begins at 11am most days i believe. It is only $ 12 rounding up not including tip. Food quality: Hit or miss. Lunch buffet has yet to fail me but other times i was dissatisfied with the quality especially considering the price and location.

As we walked past Paradise Pizza & Pasta on our way to Clay Oven, I noticed it was packed. I was fearing the worst as we rounded the corner. But apparently pizza is much more popular than Indian in West Portal, and we were the beneficiaries. There were plenty of unoccupied tables. We were directed to a table against the front window. I looked through the appetizers. I’ve eaten chicken, fish, cheese, and vegetable pakoras before, but I’ve never had Calamari Pakora. So that’s what we started with. $ 8.95. The Hydrabadi Chicken Curry caught my friend’s eye. It sounded interesting, so we decided to give it a try. $ 13.95. I love lamb, so I also ordered the Lamb Korma. $ 14.95. Then we added on rice and naan for two. Rice Pilav: $ 2.95, plain Naan: $ 2.00. We received complimentary papadams. They were disappointing. For one thing, they were not served hot, much less warm. There were also some dark and charred regions on both pieces. I just ate around the bad spots. The Calamari Pakora was excellent. I love squid, and this was cooked to perfection. The pakora coating was light and did not taste greasy at all. I tried not to eat too much of it for fear of spoiling my dinner. I can safely say that I have never tasted anything like the Hydrabadi Chicken Curry before. It was cooked Hydrabadi style(not sure what that meant) with spices, apricots and potato straws. I could really taste the sweetness of the apricots, but not the potato straws once we mixed them in with the sauce. The chicken was just a little overcooked and dry. I liked this dish, although I’m not sure I would order it again. The Lamb Korma was good and bad. The quality of the meat was high, and it was also boneless. There were plenty of meaty chunks in the bowl. But the sauce was disappointing. It was a lot thinner and less creamy than I liked, usually I tear off pieces of naan to get the last remnants of sauce out of the bowl. I didn’t bother this time. But I did like the mound of almond garnish on top. Service was outstanding. Members of their staff were very nice and friendly. They checked on us regularly, without being obtrusive. Our server was even nice enough to box up all our leftovers when we were finished eating. Prices are a tad on the high side.

I really hope that the food I had this time would be their norm — I don’t know what happened, but I am beginning to think that the first time I had their food some of the employees in the kitchen were playing a prank while the boss was not there, or something like that… There is no way the cook from tonight’s meal was the same person as my last meal from this place. Chicken tikka masala — the chicken was a little dry, but the sauce was delicious, with great spice. Chicken saag — the saag was great, flavorful and plentiful. Aloo gobi — fresh yummy and spicy goodness! Red daal and yellow daal — I love daal, and these were so delicious and fragrant, I kept thinking maybe my last order was hijacked by their competitor that wanted to make these guys look really bad??? I appreciate the owner(?) or manager Norm, for convincing me to try their food again. I just really really hope that this is their real side, that they would be consistent with their quality, just like today’s! When I try again next time I will be able to confirm that :)

Fathers Day Family dinner at Clay Oven was an event. Great food, service and a friendly atmosphere. Our favorite was Sag Paneer. Our daughter loved the nan and Chicken Curry. Delicious Chai Tea. The copper serving dishes are a really nice touch. They also gave us complimentary rice pudding in honor of the occasion. In all a great experience.

I came in for the lunch buffet and loved it. I was a little hesitant because of the 3 star rating but it was the closest indian place and I am really glad I tried it. The buffet was amazing. There were many options and it was neatly set up in copper buffet pots — Id never seen this before but totally awesome. The food was spiced better than most places, I love really spicy food and I can tolerate much hotter food than anyone I know. It wasn’t very spicy but it had the right amount of spice to still be flavorful without burning your tongue. The waiters were a little awkward when we walked in, and not super friendly. My mom kept commenting to them how delicious the food was and they didn’t really even acknowledge what she was saying. The place was completely empty when we walked in, a party of 5, and the two waiters came over to the door and asked if we had a reservation. We all just kind of looked at each other and said«No, do we need one?» Very much enjoyed our lunch though!

I’m a huge fan of Indian food, it’s my second favorite food next to Spanish food(from Spain). Came here because I love west portal, and I like this place a lot. The food is fairly priced, the service is very speedy, and everything we ordered tasted awesome. I got lamb vindaloo, which is usually too spicy. But, this one was great. My partner ordered chicken tikka masala, big surprise, it was also great. We even got a complimentary rice pudding :) happy customer over here. I also got the veggie samosas, they’re alright.

I have a favorite Indian place where I order delivery when I’m lazy. For some reason they don’t deliver Sunday nights when I’m craving Indian food! So I’ve been on a hunt to find a new go to Indian place. There are a couple of contenders, but I’m also addicted to trying new places, so I decided to order from Clay oven indian restaurant. I had an $ 8 off promo code so I thought why not?! Delivery came super fast! Vegetable samosa($ 4.95) — The filling had a nice consistency and the Samosas were fried nicely. Tasted great with the cilantro dipping sauce! Chicken tikka masala($ 12.95) — Spicy hot. I love spicy curry and this had a nice kick! Chicken was still moist and the sauce was full of flavor. Chicken vindaloo($ 12.95) — Spicy hot. The container was overflowing with curry, meat and potatoes. When I opened the container, curry starting leaking out since it was so full. Yay I’m getting a deal right?! Wrong! The dish was bitter tasting! We basically just threw this away. It wasn’t edible. Garlic naan($ 2.95) — Wished there was more garlic flavor, but the naan had a good amount of chew and wasn’t too oily. Good for dipping in the curry! Onion kulcha($ 2.95) — Was a little oily, but had lots of onion flavor! Good with the tikka masala. So another delivery fail! Even though I enjoyed the tikka masala, there is not excuse for how bad the vindaloo was! Never ordering from here again. There are better places for the same price or less. At least I got $ 8 off thanks to my promo code!
