I hate crowds. I hate lines. I hate people. there are crowds, lines and tons of people at OTG — Fort Mason but I would push my way through all that human mess just to get at the lamb birria at this booth. My boyfriend dreams of it.. . and word on the grid is she is slingin’ a hella legit mac n cheese option.. . I will cut a bitch to get at that!

I got to try Chica over at Off The Grid Fort Mason and was really blown away by their food. It’s a great take on Mexican-American fare. They had four items on their menu at OTG Fort Mason, one of which is their Fort Mason exclusive(see below). Each item is served on a choice of either a fresh soft roll or on a bed of brown rice. For my first visit, I tried the La Flaca and the Cochinita Pibil La Flaca(OTG Fort Mason Special) — Andouille sausage, spam, ham, black beans, smoked mozzarella, fried egg. As you can see from the picture. This was a loaded sandwich which was essentially breakfast in a roll which is always a good thing to have at any time of the day. Definitely for the carnivore folks since it has a huge portion of meats. I liked their bread! It was soft, buttery, and managed to hold together all those ingredients very well. I wouldn’t mind having this over rice either. Cochinita Pibil — Braised pork in achiote & spices, beans, avocado mash, cabbage, honey-chipotle drizzle. I opted to have this with rice. It was a very good decision for them to use brown rice as it added more substance and balance to the flavor-packed Pibil. The pork was so good! Tender and had some added sweetness from the honey-chipotle drizzle. This was my first time having Cochinita Pibil so I really have nothing to compare it to, but I must say that this was a very good interpretation. Loved the addition of the avocado mash as well. I’d definitely go back for this again in a heartbeat! This is one of the things I love about OTG Fort Mason. Providing up-and-coming chefs with a stage to shine and make a great impression. And Chica has definitely made a great impression on me with their food. Now I’m craving for some more Cochinita Pibil!
