Quaint little spot on the corner with great vibes. Service is fast which is a plus in the mornings! Tried their chai latte, and it was one of the best one yet, give this place a try!

I walked here with my best friend from the place we were staying in SF several months ago. It was early in the morning and cold and this was the perfect place to warm up. We had no complaints about anything — prices, service and variety were all great and the food quality was above average imo. Definitely the best chai tea latte I’ve ever had as well.

Masoud is the sweetest café owner! He always greets me with w smile and warm hug! Everyone in this neighborhood knows and loves him! He has a kind warm heart and reminds me so much of my dad with his hospitality and kindness! To top it off the coffee, baked goods, smoothies and sandwiches are all delicious! I highly recommend Chats anytime!

I’m usually really picky about my coffee(I was a barista for 4 years), and didn’t expect much when I ordered an iced coffee, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was delicious! Nice and strong. Not watered down at all. Their bagel sandwiches are tasty and reasonably priced(for SF), and the service was friendly and speedy. Also, the lentil soup is delicious. The place has great character and a homey feel that makes a hung over Saturday much more tolerable.

This place is the perfect place to go on a rainy day to get some work done and drink good coffee. The owner is so friendly and kind. Free wifi with purchase and enough space to work. Coffee is affordable(!!) and just as good as other coffee places! I will definitely be returning soon!

Sorry. The owner is really a nice man. I want to support small stores like this over chains. But the help is mind-numbingly slow and they apparently can’t make espresso drinks. I tried, and waited for a long time, but three times out of the four I ordered before I gave up I had to through the drinks away because they were inedible. To his credit the owner wanted to make it right and offered a replacement each time he was aware of it, but I had run out of time. A nice vibe, but not for me.

I just love this place. It is unassuming and the owners are very nice. When a kid walks in, you should see how the old guy brightens up. He puts on a big smile and disarms even the shy ones with his candy and bearded smile. Everyone here sincerely wishes you to «have a nice day», which is heard often if you sit for a while. Now, for those of you that have been and know my reviews, you may be saying, «why 5 stars? You are usually so much pickier.» And to that is say, «character» my dear friend, character. These people have evolved their roasting business to survive on individual orders to supplement their bulk tea and coffee sales, which by the way they have some incredible strong coffee if you like. There are plenty of delicious baked goods and other snacks in addition to some great sandwiches. You’ll be happy. And, they take Square!

Came by for coffee the other day and was impressed. Service was friendly by the staff and the mocha was tasty at $ 2.75. They accept credit cards too via Square!

Not bad. Drink was ok, atmosphere ok, free wifi. Minus points for failing to tell me what coffee/beans he uses and instead becoming super defensive/grumpy, as if asking what I’m about to consume is greatly defensive and inconvenient for him. Definitely will choose different spots in the future for coffee fixes. There’s plenty of em’.

The quiche was inedible, and they couldn’t care less. Plus, this place has a bathroom that’s straight out of a horror movie. Avoid!

Really great no-frills neighborhood coffee shop with cheap coffee and great service. They have delicious breakfast burritos, too, which are now a part of my weekend morning ritual: $ 2 coffee, breakfast burrito, and enjoying Potrero Hill’s gorgeous city views.

The man behind the counter(Chat?) has a warm, genuine smile. He also sells coffee for $ 1. This is half the price of most coffees in town. Not the best brew I’ve ever had, but definitely serviceable — and a great deal.

My star mainly go for the cheap pricing and free wifi here. Other than that, I don’t see myself returning. I generally like to chill at cafes for the good tasting coffee, and chill atmosphere. I also really like supporting local coffee shops. But what I got from chat was just a dirty, awkward, meh, and all over the place feel. Drinks– Pretty cheap I’d say. Coffee for $ 1? Now that’s not something you see outside the McDonald’s dollar menu often! Got myself a cappucino and my drink was less than $ 3. However, for the more important factor: Taste– it was mehhh. Nothing special, and I didn’t get that aromatic scent of espresso I enjoy. Service– There was only one worker, and he was not lively at all. I think you need some caffeine mr. barista! Felt like I was ordering from a rock. Atmosphere– this place looks really run down, and can use some cleaning. Just go to their bathroom, and you’ll be led to a backroom that looks like overstuffed garage. And it doesn’t stop there. Once you get to the bathroom– hold your pee for elsewhere if you have a fear of claustrophobia! The most small and crampiest bathroom ever. After seeing the backroom, it made me question how clean and tidy they keep this café… and how clean and sanitized the equipment they used to make my coffee –_– Had I saw how messy and dirty the backroom with, I don’t think I would have gotten coffee here. Just sayin. (lol and no I did not sip some haterade before typing this. just being honest amigo)

I try to support local coffee places — and had just left Whole Foods from around the corner, and opted to try a place in the neighborhood. I checked out Unilocal, and it led me here. Argh. I walked in, and it was disorderly and dirty wasn’t busy at all. The pastry case was the only thing that looked good, but I came for a latte. So, I ordered it, and before he rang me up, he started the espresso shot(didn’t watch it) and also started steaming the milk(not holding the canister). Then, while those were buzzing along by themselves, he rang me up. Took the two off of the espresso machine and poured into a cup. I thought… why not… I’ll give it a shot… even though I was thinking, hmm… even Starbucks as mechanical as they are, still watch everything happening! It was the WORST latte ever. So not only was the place dirty, they don’t care about the quality of their beverages. This is not how a latte is made. The coffee was super bitter — and my best guess is because he overdrew the espresso. And the milk tasted, eck. I am thinking I could have had a better one from McDonald’s where the latte has been perfected by machines(they don’t watch it, but everything is timed perfectly — similar to Starbucks, but without the barista factor). I sound like a snob, but shit… at least pay attention to my $ 3+ drink.

Cute little coffee and pastry place in Protrero Hill. My americano was made well, and there was plenty of seating and they didn’t rush me out(I had time to kill, sue me). The pastries all looked good and I was tempted by the ice cream but decided to save that for another day. As others have mentioned, you have to ask for the Wifi password, but they’re not a pain about it. Minus a star for not having a bathroom. After I finish off my Americano, you know, nature calls :-)

Chat’s is a cozy, comfortable, family and dog friendly place. They greet and welcome everyone who wanders in. They have books and toys for kids and free treats for dogs. The owner chatted with many of the customers(regulars?) I settled in with my laptop for a few hours and it was a good place to work — not too noisy, free all day parking, power outlets, secure wi-fi with a strong, stable connection, decent coffee, and breakfast and lunch items. They only have four small tables though, so you run the risk of not snagging a table. The pastry case has a wider variety than the typical coffee shop. I spotted a dozen varieties of muffins(e.g., lemon poppyseed, pumpkin chocolate chip, chocolate cheesecake), croissants(3 types), scones(5 types), cinnamon snails, morning buns, dessert bars, pumpkin chocolate chip bread and cookies. They also have bagels with spreads, breakfast burritos and fruit cups. For lunch you can get homemade soups and sandwiches. For dessert, they have Mitchell’s Ice Cream. I had a medium latte($ 3) with an egg, black forest ham, American cheese bagel sandwich($ 3.99). Very reasonably priced. The latte was strong and decent though nothing special. The bagel was toasty and chewy but the sandwich was very salty. The egg looked like it had been nuked. I think I chose the wrong thing? I still want to like Chat’s. The pastries looked good(they’re from Raison d’Etre).

I always enjoy visiting a good, worn-in coffee shop. A daily selection of roasts, cute(but few) tables for a small group or couple, and the service was friendly. Atmosphere: Sunny, close-quarters and sits nice on the street corner. Crowd: Entrepreneur woman doing business on a macbook at one table, late-twenties couple at another table, elderly man complaining to himself about the stock market at another Cost: $ 2 for 20oz iced tea

So what’s a non-coffee drinker like me doing in a coffee house? I had about thirty minutes of free time while waiting for the doors at the Thick House to open so I decided to drop in for a snack. Chat’s is located just up the block from the Thick House. I love the smell of coffee. I’ve just never adapted to its taste. The coffee smells great inside Chat’s, but I had tea instead. I had a big 16 ounce serving of tea in fact. The teas are loose and they create a homemade tea bag with the tea of your choice. I had a peppermint tea( ) which had a really strong peppermint aroma to it. The tea had excellent flavor too. Very relaxing. Very soothing. There are fresh bagels and assorted baked goods in the bakery case( ). I had a berry and peach scone( ) to go with my tea. The outside of the scone was crumbly but much to my surprise was not dry. The inside of the scone was quite moist with large pockets of blackberries, blueberries and peach. Being located in a residential neighborhood, the atmosphere inside is very mellow. There are several wooden tables to sit at. Besides the coffee, tea, and baked goods Chat’s also serves Mitchell’s ice cream.
