Great place. Tasty beers. Nice vibe. Bring a first date to impress… or a bunch of friends and dominate the window seat! This isn’t a super toned down wine bar. Its mellow for sure and you can have good conversation… but you don’t get the same lame music as in other yupville spots. That makes a huge difference! The guys that run this spot are awesome.

Whyyyy do I always end up back here?! Its a wine bar. I like hard liquor. There, I said it! Nothing good ever happens when I come. Mostly from my own group. I think we just get pre-drunk or something. Just bad stuff. The place itself is fine. Kind of quiet. A few tables along the side. Has a wide selection of wine, but I felt it was very bevmo quality. One of the earlier times I was here, the bartender suggested a wine for us. It was ok, but not really great. At least he tried. The servers here are good. They just don’t work with very much… It has the feel of wanna-be classy, but isn’t. Oh, and 1 unisex bathroom. Yeah… no bueno. Sink got broken on New Years eve… genius.

Pretty empty on Friday night around 11pm when I went. This place is dim and filled with pretty good wine and beer selection. The bartender was pretty nice and helpful. Super chilled place.

This bar is awesome. What other bar has a «I love what I do and you can come here if you want» type attitude? They play 90s metal and grunge, they serve good beer, they serve good wine. Good beer on the menu… im not into wine but, it looks like good wine. Small production stuff all the time!

Seriously large pours. They’re always playing some heavy metal playlist which is cool by me since I never listen to that type of music and it mixes things up. Despite the music, its a chill atomsphee. Good service. No beer on tap though :(All around good place.

Was here last night for a AIDS. Charity event and was quite surprised! This little gem is a great spot for a nice glass of wine or a fabulous Belgium beer! Friendly staff and located close enough to Polk St. so you can start your night off right!

Checked this place out last Friday and it was surprisingly quiet in a good way. They had some rocking heavy metal music(Tool while we were there) which made for a great conversation with the bartender and also had a good selection of beers. We didn’t have to fight for a table which was great and they have a nice group sitting area towards the front if you are able to land that. They also give very generous pours of wine. They have a limited food menu which I didn’t try since I had dinner right before so no review to give there. Free breadsticks were a huge plus.

Hell yes. I almost don’t want to pile on the praise here, because this feels like a hidden gem and I don’t want it to get mobbed. Basically, it’s pretty much the perfect wine/beer/snack bar. Let’s run down the list, shall we? Black Sheep is laid-back, unpretentious, not overcrowded(but also not barren), and filled with a cool crowd. The prices are reasonable, the drink menu is eclectic without being overlarge, and the bartenders are friendly(they even gave us free breadsticks and extra chocolate!). Basically, when you’re here, you feel welcomed and at ease. This is the perfect place to swing by, grab a drink, and relax for a while. Stop on by.

I would come back for the bars low lit décor and interesting art work on the walls. Even though most people come for the wine, I found the beer selection memorable. I love Anchor Steam Old Foghorn Barleywine and like it when I find it on a menu.

So here we are again, another review on defining the«good» bar. If you read my previous bar reviews, you already probably have some idea what I’m going to say. In short, bars are irritating. The noise level, difficulty of ordering a drink, no way to reserve a table, etc. Black Sheep is no exception. There’s lack of lighting, to a level never experienced before. No waiters. Overcrowded bar. A bartender that can hardly see you waving(since there’s almost pitch dark in at Black Sheep)…Either way it was not our cup of tea.

It’s a wine bar but without the snooty, nose-in-the-air, vibe. Waltzing in after a few glasses at Bell Tower last night, we were greeted with the soothing vocals of Linkin’ Park. Oddly, heavy metal seems to suit this small-ish spot on Polk. It’s unique, that’s for sure but the best part about this place isn’t it’s choice in music; it’s the bartender’s heavy pour. There’s nothing worse than paying $ 15 for a glass of wine only to get like, 4 sips of wine. Not here, no sir. You’ll get your money’s worth.

Seriously everyone, if you can’t handle music that is a little loud and rockin’ at times… then you need to grow a pair! After all, does every single wine bar have to have the exact same trendy, ambient, downtempo music?(which BTW I do enjoy) But come on, there’s nothing wrong with some variety and a random playlist. The wine list is impressive, I had an amazing Sancerre that I will continue to go back for. My friend had a great glass of Pinot Noir. They did a good job assembling the wine list, its concise yet offers a varied selection of high quality wines. The ambiance is so relaxing and laid back, the bartenders are attentive and generous with their pours. Everyone else there was also very friendly. Its a fun neighborhood bar where no one is pretentious, and a great spot to catch up with friends. Last but not least, it’s the only bar within a 5 block radius up and down Polk that does not smell like a sweat lodge. Bonus!

I’ve walked by here a million times and recently noticed that it changed ownership. I was never enticed to check it out until recently. Something about the new set up seemed a little more approachable and appealing. It’s a little chic, but still laid-back. Overall, it’s a nice spot to grab a glass of wine and chat with friends. It has a relaxed atmosphere where you can sit for awhile and not feel rushed to leave or close out your bill. I’m thinking that I’ll be back soon.

Tucked off the corner of Broadway is a little wine bar called Black Sheep. I came here with a friend to just chat, have a glass of wine and catch up. They have a pretty decent selection, we both had the sparkling Rose. Very yummy. They also seem to have a decent collection of brews. The staff was helpful and friendly. Checked in on us at our table to make sure we were doing okay. The music is cool in this dark cross between a bar and a lounge. Not a destination spot, but a nice place to catch up with a friend over a drink.

i’ve been eyeing this spot for a few months. it looked like a wine bar that had gone out of business. a few days ago i noticed that it had a new sign ‘black sheep’ -(reference insert: «you can get with this, or you can get with that!») turns out this is a cool wine and beer bar. i really liked the solid wood rectangles at the back used as benches and tables. wine is often paired with food, the two compliment each other. similarly i feel bars should be paired with music. i wasn’t a fan of the budget audio system or the ipod selection. we listened to the entire weezer red album while sipping rose.

Black Sheep is a nice refresh from The Wine Bar before. The layout is similar but the little changes make the place feel more relaxed overall. Have no doubt it’s still a wine bar but it’s just got a more laid back feel to it now– perfect for drink and conversation. Black Sheep was our final stop on Polk and it was a nice change from the bars before. You’re not sandwiched here — none of that«meat marinating in sweat» type of feeling. We actually managed to get a table and space around us which was really nice. Add to that a wonderful menu of beers, and we found ourselves a great place for our nightcap. On the topic of beers though, the Black Sheep does have a great selection of beers to boot. In fact, the back of the 3-fold beverage menu is pretty much beer so don’t fret if you’re not in the mood for wine. Decent selection of Belgians from Affligem and Chimay to more unique brews. They also have a pretty lengthy list of domestic micro-brews. Top this off with a nice bartender and we were all set. I like the Black Sheep. It’s a chill bar to get away from Polk when you’re not in the mood for the festivities down the street. Here’s another check on my list of places to consider for after work drinks.

Big improvement from the last place both in décor and selection. They now have a great selection of beers, Belgium to be specific. Friendly staff and a great crowd. I’ll have to report back on the wine and cheese selections. You can get with this or you can get with that… just had to put that in there.

Sigh. so much potential. could be such a sexy place. We were just walking by on our way somewhere else and i noticed the sign and the simple interior for Black Sheep. We noted it and came back after meeting our friends down the street. First thing I noticed: the music. Loud, blaring, and some sort of hard rock. Not sexy. Second thing: the crowd. Kind of grungy, not super sexy. Not that I mind that kind of crowd. It’s just the décor is so chique and nice, you would expect just a classier time. We walked out within 1 minute. Not sexy enough for us.

Yep, they’re already open… though I believe it’s a soft opening until January. Much improved from the previous occupant, The Wine Bar. The décor has been changed– random junk has been thankfully removed from the walls and the place is been repainted a deep maroon(similar to nearby Amelie, actually). Same cozy little tables and bar stools. I like it. The wine making roommate was satisfied with their wine list, which is good enough for me. Glasses are between $ 10 and $ 13 and pours are generous. We didn’t try the food, but we spied cheese plates, charcuterie, and panini on the menu. Looking good, Black Sheep! We will be back.
