The have a few regular tables and also the teppanyaki/hibachi tables. They are almost always busy, but have really great service for being in a little strip mall. I was skeptical at first but their sushi tastes great and they are friendly!

I rate Okawa only 1 star because the food wasn’t good at all. In my opinion it was disgusting It has a grill where they cook in front of you and when he tried to get the fire going a huge flame came in our faces I think he realized that he had done something wrong! I ordered the Western roll(shrimp, avocado, and cucumber) and it was very bland and not good. It needed much flavor and salt. I had to ask for spicy mayo, and I had to cover the whole thing in it if I wanted to eat the roll. I also ordered the Hibachi soup(onion soup) which was good, but it only had one piece of mushroom in it. It is priced just right, but personally I will never eat there again.

We have so much fun at this place. The kids love it here and the cooks make sure they are part of the show. We make sure to call in a reservation as it does get crowded weekend nights. Once seated drinks are brought out quickly and the orders taken. Depending on how large your group is you might get seated with others. We have always been fortunate to have really nice people to sit with. The food here has always been great and the chef puts on a nice show. The kids get food thrown at them to catch with their mouth and that’s always a crowd pleaser. I get the steak and scallops most times. It comes with fried rice and noodles. Also before your meal you get miso soup and ginger salad. Parking here is ok, You might have to walk from the other end of the strip mall but you will always find a spot. The servers are really nice and the place is clean. If your looking for a fun place to enjoy food, friends and a cooking show this is it !

Sat at the bar. Always fun to watch the Itamae prepare the sushi\sashimi. Had the Sashimi Appetizer($ 10); then 2 piece Ebi($ 4); and finished with Vegetable Tempura($ 5). All washed down with Sapporo($ 8). Yum. Domo arigato gozaimasu Alex & Cleo.

Ambiance is just like any other hibachi place. Food was a little bland to be honest. I asked for any sauce other than soy and what I got was a watered down, semi-chunky(spoiled), sauce. They said they closed at 11 on Friday night yet they started standing in top of the grills right next to us cleaning the vents at 10. I went here about 4 years ago and had a great experience. I’m not sure if management had changed or what, but I we’ll not be returning.

Went for birthday dinner. Food was average at best. Fans don’t work so we got smoked out from grills and had to move seats. Chef forgot to cook out shrimp appetizer. Scallops were gross. Steak was poorly cooked and cut into chunks too big to eat. Chef was just as pissed as we were and said after multiple complaints manager doesn’t care. Very disappointing. Will go to Kobe next time.

This is our go-to place for hibachi. Cheaper and better than the normal chains. We have sat in the bar and at the hibachi grills and both experiences have always been great. Have tried everything from their filet, chicken, shrimp to their sushi. Everything is always great and the services is great as well. Avoid the chain hibachi restaurants and come here!

It was a nice dinner. But I still have my fav. Normally these dinners take 2hrs. We were in n out in 1HR. I did the lobster n filet. The lobster was a little tough and had a piece of shell still attached. The fried rice was not the best but my kids loved the fried rice and the noodles they give. I love how all the chefs are Asian and they interacted nice with the kids. Let them so egg rolls on the spatula.

I don’t venture out to this area much but was in search of good sushi. Had the Las Vegas. Crunchy, spicy and yummy. Shrimp, avocado with thinly sliced jalapeño on top.

Id have to say all the way around it was a great Sunday Brunch and family get together. Everyone seemed to enjoy the«show» and all the food we ordered. We had the Seafood Combo for two, with fried rice which was more than enough food for the two of us and my seven year old daughter. They also kept a cake we had brought in in their cooler and brought it out after everyone was done eating, as well as the plates, forks and three candles for three birthdays. That was a great touch. Thank You.

Love coming here. Nice local version of Benihana’s. Fairly reasonably priced and much closer if you live in East County. Sushi is actually really good to.

I generally like this place. We were there on Saturday. We were seated at 8 and didn’t get any food until 8:50(we had to ask for it). The ambiance is nice but the service is a bit slow. I don’t like the way my clothes and hair smell when I get out of there but I think it’s expected in such places.

I made a call to Okawa for a great lunch takeout today, and placed an order for 1 Chicken Fried Rice, and 3 orders of Shrimp Fried Rice. Fortunately, I live close by and found out that we received 4 orders of Chicken Fried Rice… I was PISSED! Do you open all orders and check through each order for shrimp or chicken… I didn’t. I then placed a call for the correction and they apologized, and gave me 3 Shrimp Fried Rice on top of the mistakes. I was a happy camper!!! I know humans make mistakes, it’s how you react to the mistakes that make a 5 Star restaurant. Hats off to Okawa!!! I will check from now on. Fo Sho!

Food was okay. Salmon hand roll to start off with was fantastic. Our chef was pretty boring, albeit talented. I think you have to find out who the cool chefs are. Will try again.

I’ve only tried the sushi and never sat at one of the grilling tables, but everything I’ve had has been phenomenal. This is my favorite sushi place in Santee so far. It seems to be an extremely popular birthday spot… Every time we’ve gone, even for lunch, there’s always a group celebrating.

I rarely come to Santee. One of the reasons that I even make the drive is to come eat here. The price and quality of the food is worth the drive. They have good service as well. I normally get the filet mignon and chicken hibachi. It comes with soup, salad, rice and noodles. I share with my son and we can’t finish all the food. Last time I came we had the crunch roll and it was very tasty.

3 With all the great reviews, I expected slightly more. When we walked in front door, we were greeted by nobody. We just stood there for about 3 minutes or so looking around wondering; do we sit anywhere or ??? We looked over to sushi counter corner and there was about 4 employees standing there, no one making eye contact with us. Maybe it was the obnoxious screen in front that blocks the view of people coming in, but if thats the case; take it down.(You’ll understand this comment once you walk in.) Then we ordered a few beers and sushi once we sat down at a table.(Not the community tables) We had two different waitstaff at our table whom kept asking us the same thing over and over. We were so confused, we actually almost left we were so uncomfortable. We finally got our sushi & we were pleased with the quality of fish and the tasty rolls. We really liked the spicy garlic edamame as well. The service got better as the meal went on, but it really REALLY needs work. 3 stars was purely food, had service been better, maybe it would be a better star rating for me.

I came here for sushi not realizing that they also had hibachi tables. Since I already had my heart set on sushi, we sat down at one of the regular tables by the sushi bar. For the size of the restaurant, I was pretty surprised by how much seating they had. There are 6 hibachi tables that seat 8 each, a small sushi bar, and a few small regular tables. We started off with the spicy garlic edamame and the pork gyoza. I didn’t think the edamame was terribly spicy until we got to the bottom where the sauce had settled, then it had a nice kick to it the. The gyoza were flavorful, but I personally thought they could have been cooked a bit longer. It certainly didn’t slow me down on eating them though! For the main event, we ordered the Las Vegas roll and the Dancing Lobster roll. The Vegas roll is covered in tempura and served up with a spicy mayo topped of with a thin slice of fresh jalapeño. They were nice enough to take the seeds out, so the roll had a nice kick to it without being too spicy. I actually thought the spicy tuna on top of the Dancing Lobster roll was more spicy than the Vegas. Either way, I would have both of them again so if they look good give them a shot. Next time I come in I may have to try the hibachi, because it looked and smelled delicious! The service here was quick and friendly. I liked that all of the servers seemed to work together to get everything turned around quickly. There’s nothing worse than waiting 15 minutes for your server while others are standing around. Kudos for the teamwork!

Its your typical«Benihana» faire, but don’t think that it’s just a copy with sub par food and entertaining chefs. He was very good, and I’ve never seen an egg get juggled so much. They aren’t afraid of the flames either. The food is delicious. They really lay on the garlic with the fried rice(which isn’t a bad thing). We had sushi as well, and the Vegas roll and the baked salmon roll were great. They are also decently priced, which is a nice break considering how expensive places like this usually are. We don’t frequent this area of town often, but when we do come back, we will be sure to come back here.
