Hands down, the most amazing baklava I’ve ever had in my 32 years of living! Personal favorite is the cinnamon walnut. Do yourself and have some ASAP!

I can’t be friends with you unless you have a muffin top. There. I said it. I mean that in the sincerest way as this season has been ALL about not working out and ALL about eating. Kidding aside(kinda), I’ve been letting myself enjoy a few carb dessert items here and there this season. I recently drove to Santee to buy a few pastries directly from Baklava King. I blog about food so I figured their baklavas would be a fun topic for a holiday post. I was humbly surprised at how genuine yet intense the wonderful bakers are here at Baklava King. Baklava King is located in an industrial area so you have to drive to the very back of the buildings to get to them. There’s one entrance and it’s gated shut after you open the glass door. I heard a voice yell out that someone will be with me soon. Sarka, one of the bakers and I believe owners, greeted me and took me immediately to the back. I took a bunch of pictures that day(with permission). It felt like controlled Christmas baking chaos in their kitchen. I was so excited. There’s a hustle & bustle with the close knit bakers here. I heard laughter and I felt the intensity of these female-only bakers that afternoon. There is so much to choose from. They have the standard triangle baklavas or the rolled burma baklavas. There are three nuts used here: pistachio, hazelnut, and walnut. The sugar water used here consists simply of filtered water, sugar, and lemon I believe. I asked Sarka if it makes a difference if the baklavas are eaten cold or room temp. She said it’s a preference and that’s it. Her kids, for example, enjoy eating only cold baklavas whereas others enjoy them fresh out of the oven. The samples I had were cold and I must say that I prefer them that way. There’s something about the cold phyllo dough with the almost bottom heavy thick layer of sugar that makes me incredibly happy. My favorite item I sampled that day was the pistachio burma. I bought their 10 item sampler for $ 10. I so wanted to bust open that pack and try the chocolate burmas. Next time. I plan on re visiting this week to buy their ensemble pack($ 32 for 32 pieces) for two holiday parties this weekend. My goal is to make everyone have muffin tops so we can all be friends this season.

I didn’t go into the bakery directly, but enjoyed… and let me stress the JOY part of that word, their dainties twice from coffee shops who serve their goods. MMMMMMM I love that it’s not TOOSWEET, like some are. The rich butter and nuts flavor comes through amongst the crisp delicate leaves of fillo. Yum. You mean I could have gone to their bakery and partook in samples? Oh man, I would have flown home with a couple of boxes, to be sure. Next time I’m in San Diego… beeline to 9932 Prospect.

Growing up, I swore baklava was a filipino dessert… my mom used to make it all the time. Then I found out it was Turkish and learned how to eat it like the Turks do… this baklava is decadent, moist and crunchy all at the same time. We got a variety pack and I thought I would only like the traditional pistachio, but each one was as delicious as the next! May not have been the best choice for my pre-holiday trimming, but I’d definitely order it again.

Some of the best baklava ever. You’ve probably even had some, as they sell to a lot of businesses and restaurants who then resell them. You may think you’ve gotten the address wrong when you arrive. It’s an industrial building, basically where they setup shop for a commercial kitchen. Don’t turn around and drive away! Keep going into the parking lot and they’re one of the last doors. My wife and I looked like a couple of bumbling idiots, because we weren’t sure if we were allowed to go in. There are all of these ladies in the back baking away. But the Baklava Queen welcomed us in, helped us out, and she was super nice and accommodating. You can sample everything they have available and get boxes of 32, or a smaller box of 10 in whatever mix you want. They’re $ 1 each, and delicious! She even took the time to label each type we had chosen in our box. From then on, you just order whatever you want online and come pick them up. We will definitively be ordering more.

I discovered this bakery while looking online for treat places. I wanted to get a gift of sweets for someone. I was immediately greeted by friendly staff and samples! My boyfriend LOVED it so I knew this would be a hit. Everything is fresh, and they do not just make baklava, they have other great treats as well! I was just a walk-in, but their selection was great and if you order online, you can get whatever you want(will definitely do that next time!) Super great find!

Found this place through Unilocal and was having a baklava craving. The lady who helped me was super nice! She gave me some samplers to eat while I waited, which was delicious! I bought the variety pack and can’t wait to dig in!

Having known the challenge of creating fine pastries on a consistent basis for those who can distinguish the difference, I must share with you a real find. Baklava King. Baklava King. Baklava King. I was offered a generous sample of their ‘gourmet’ baklava from the owners as we train their handsome young puppy some basic obedience. I thought to myself, what a kind gesture from two fine people, but didn’t get my hopes up for a ‘gourmet’ experience since that term is often used without merit and have high standards since I used to make pastries for a living. Sure, they looked good but. .. I shared a few with a co-worker and decided to have one with a cup of tea that evening. Oh my. .. oh my. They were devine. Delicate texture, perfect level of sweetness at the peak of freshness. As much as I appreciate my wonderful co-worker and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I would never have shared one of those suckers had I known how fine they were. True gourmet, worthy of the title. Do yourself a favor, order some, for whatever reason, as soon as possible.

Love their baklava reminds me of when I visited turkey. I usually order the pistachio burma it’s delicious and little easier to offer for my parties and client appreciation nights.

Great customer service. Went to their offices in Santee and received some samples so I knew what I was choosing. We ordered their Baklava along with Luna Catering for a work event and it was a hit. I enjoyed the baklava and it was easy to set out and let people grab what they wanted. When I picked it up it was packaged nicely and service was friendly. I’d order from them again.

Thank you Unilocal! If it wasn’t for Unilocal I wouldn’t have found Baklava King. I was in search of a baklava bakery who made deliveries. After seeing the good reviews Baklava King received, I wanted to give them a try. I went to their website and was amazed by how many baklava and burma selections there were. I am familiar with the traditional Pistachio and Walnut Baklava, but they also have Cinnamon — Walnut Burma Baklava, Walnut Chocolate Burma Baklava, Chocolate Pistachio Burma Baklava, Almond — Pecan Burma Baklava, and Hazelnut Burma Baklava. What to choose?! I ended up purchasing the baklava ensemble which includes ½ box of Asst. Burma(16 pieces) +½ box of Walnut & Pistachio Triangles(16 pieces). The website is very easy to navigate and you can customize which flavors you want. After making your selection and right before you make a payment there is a comment section where you can write when(day/time) you want the baklava delivered. I was advised that no matter how early you place an order, they will always make the baklava fresh. They delivered right within the time frame I requested. The delivery cost is very reasonable. I had a chance to taste their burma and it was absolutely delicious, unfortunately I didn’t taste the baklava, but from what I heard from others it was amazingly good as well. The baklava and burmas were packaged very professionally and pleasing to the eyes. Since I ordered the assorted box, they provided labels indicating which baked good was what. I was beyond pleased with the service at Baklava King. I will definitely keep Baklava King in mind for my next big order!

I was curious to try this place out ever since i came across it here on Unilocal but had never gotten the chance of going until today. a spontaneous trip to santee for this delicious treat. at first i was a little skeptical because ive always had bad experiences with baklavas in the past being that they were all way too sweet and drenched with sugar until i finally came here. i didn’t call in advance or did any ordering on their website as recommended by others since it was already too late to order so i just winged it and see what they have left and to my surprised they still had enough left for me to purchase. the owner was super nice and brought me to the back where the magic happens for these yummy baklavas. she told be the price and showed me the box for an order of 32. which came out to be $ 30 even. and a smaller order of 10 pieces for $ 10.she also offered me to sample anything that was laid out for purchase to be sure if i could like it or not. after a bite of the walnut baklava i was in heaven!! it was sweet but not overly sweet like others and had to get a box of 32 pieces. i could not resist. plus the sweet aroma of fresh baklavas baking away in the oven did not help my temptation. i walked away with a box of goodies and happy i finally tried them out. for sure i will be back and to order in advance. i recommend them to anyone that loves baklavas. this place did not fail me.

Wanting to make sure I got my baklava fix, I called in ahead to see if it was possible to drop in to purchase items instead of going to their website(as some other reviewers have noted). Jeff, the owner, was super curteous and helpful over the phone and told me that day of orders would require a 4 hour notice so that the baklava would be fresh upon picking up, or, I could come and choose from what they had left over after fulfilling other orders. Because I called much later than expect, decided to just stop by and wing it. Although the location is discreet and hard to find, when you open the doors to Baklava king your nose fills with butter baked deliciousness. Jeff wasn’t there, but his wife(didn’t catch her name) very quickly and politely ushered me to the back where I could choose which items I wanted to purchase. Ended up with a mixture of 10 for $ 10 — chocolate walnut, hazelnut, pistachio, almond/pecan, cinnamon walnut… it was heaven! Normally I don’t like the rolled types(that look like cigars), but the ones at Baklava King looked exceptional. and tasted even better. Overall, a very happy customer On top of that, Jeff’s wife gave me free reign to take a few as samples. Excellent customer service, amazing products, and the owners are fantastic people. This will be the only place I buy from!

I stumbled upon Baklava King via Unilocal while searching for good eateries(i’m new to SD) and was intrigued by all the positive reviews. I tried looking for the building yesterday, but for some reason couldn’t find it(the business building threw me off) so I went home to look through their website. To my surprise I was supposed to order online first and then call to schedule for delivery or pick-up. No biggie. The next day I did just that, picked up my box of assorted baklava rolls w/a couple of free samples, drove home, and the fatty in me devoured 4 rolls in half an hour! The baklava rolls are AMAZING! Crispy outside, moist inside! The pistachio is definitely my fav! Mmm yum! You gotta try Baklava King… like, right now!
