Just loved it! The signature dish was to die for! Service was okay. I was with a friend at the bar and didn’t need much of a waiter. I am all about quality of fish when it comes to sushi. They definitely have good fish !

Im a sushi snob. Ive eaten at 2 michelin rated sushi places in SF and some of the best in LA. I also have eaten at places in Hong Kong and a few other countries. A friend of mine recommended I try this place out as the main owner often works as the chef and he’s apparently a genuine sushi maker. I usually judge sushi restaurants on 3 things. Miso Soup, Sushi Quality, and Atmosphere. The miso soup was some of the best i’ve had, if not in the top tier, the atmosphere was great and the staff was welcoming, and the sushi quality was way higher quality than expected. Would highly recommend and will eat there again soon! I only wish they had an all you can eat menu!

I have been here twice and my favorite dish is their Sukiyaki($ 14.00) OMG! It is sooo good. I also like their appetizers — including their shrimp martinis. The restaurant is very clean, and the service is efficient, but not very friendly. We don’t go here very much because it’s clear across town. We’ve also become addicted to Vietnamese food, which there are two restaurants close to where we live.(Simply Vietnam, and Kettles) If I were in the mood for Japanese, I would come here or to Hana in Rohnert Park. Both offer upscale, modern Japanese food.

One star for the hair in my food that I paid for Three stars for the food quality I was dining with a business contact for lunch, toward the end of the meal I realized there was a black hair in my food(I’m blonde). The hostess came to check on us and I pointed out hte hair. She was very apologetic and said she would tell Gary. She came back to the table with the bill and said she had to charge me for my meal. It was hard to understand her with her accent but it sounded like she said that because they couldn’t really be sure where the hair came from they were going to have to charge me. In the end I didn’t feel my $ 11 meal was worth the argument so we paid our bill and left. With a policy of charging customers for inedible foreign objects in their food I will not be dining at any Gary Chu restaurants in the future. Beware of any«extras» you may be receiving in your next meal.

If you want the best sushi, you come here. Hands down one of the best places you can eat. Sit at the sushi bar and tell Gary«Omakase» and get ready for one of the best meals you’ve ever had. If you don’t want to go big try the martini prawn, cowboy roll, Utah(order it with Marilyn sauce) The Kobe beef is outstanding.

Osake is my favorite Japanese restaurants in Sonoma County! The food is always fresh and delicious. My favorite are the Lisa Roll and Utah Roll. This is one of the few authentic Japanese restaurants that I’ve been to, and I’m lucky that it’s a short drive from where I live. The menu is diverse with the typical items that are found in any sushi restaurants mixed with some creative items that really make Osake stand apart from the other restaurants in this area. I’ve been going to Gary’s Chinese restaurant in the downtown area for years and can say that I love the food here just as equally.

Well, first off, I’m shocked! I LOVE Asian food, and don’t like sushi, and I’ve never thought of this as a sushi restaurant. I’ve liked everything I’ve had there, and of course enjoy traditionals like miso soup and edamame. The two things I order every time are the tempura prawns and the fried banana dessert. I know something’s really good if I look around to see if I can get away with licking the plate! Not all the servers are very friendly, but I just think of that as «quiet» — not rude.

Been coming here for a while really enjoy the place. Very yummy food! I would say I am not to thrilled with the chicken teriyaki :/The prawn martini is to die for along with the the dumplings. Enjoy looking at the big fish tanks!

One of the best places for sushi. Very creative and crazy fresh . Great service and food always on time. The best place is the bar where Gary can give you one on one service.

Pretty solid sushi joint. Excellent ambience, quick service and delightful sushi. Those martini prawns are freaking redonk. That’s the only way to describe them. REDONK! I could just eat 5 servings of that and die a happy lass. Their sake selection is also top notch. Meibo is excellent if you’re looking for a recommendation. Good stuff, Osake! Please pass go and collect $ 200 dollars.

I have recently rediscovered this restaurant– and am so happy I did! The food is fantastic! Fresh, creative sushi dishes in addition to «must try» cooked items like the lamb chops, Lobster tempura and sashimi, and what we call«the really good soup» with wagyu beef and truffle oil. Be sure to try the«universe» dish– land, sea, Sky and heaven represented on a platter!

Went here one time because I thought it would be like Sake O in Healdsburg. I was very disappointed with this restaurant. The food was presented well but was not fresh. The textures and flavors of the fish were not good at all. I won’t be returning to this establishment. Sushi is too expensive to not get fresh fish.

The food here is fantastic. From the martini prawns, to the Utah roll, all the way to the lemon chicken, nothing compares yet. The only reason why I rate it 4 stars and not 5 isn’t because of the food but because of the service. Sometimes they are very attentive other times you will wait for awhile to be served even when you are the only one in the restaurant at 1500.

This Japanese restaurant is pretty decent. The tempura udon is great. Basic sushi rolls(without crazy sauces/glazes) are perfect. The«specialty rolls» come with crazy sauces, they taste good, but the sauces seem to drown the actual roll killing the freshness of the fish/seafood. Wait staff are extremely friendly and my water was never left half way or empty for long. Restaurant is really clean. It’s a bit on the dark side, not enough natural light or lighting for that matter. Inside seems a bit upscale, doesn’t seem very kid friendly. It feels more for business lunches, intimate dinners, not family oriented. I felt coming in and wearing jeans and a sweater wasn’t dressy enough!

The word that comes to mind when I think of Osake is pretentious. Way overpriced and completely over the top. Simplicity goes a long way, and I think Osake focuses more on presentation and drowning everything in sweet or spicy sauces, rather than serving simply made sushi. At least, that was my experience… I ordered the martini prawns, the horizon roll and the stuffed mushrooms. The martini prawns were pretty good, although drowned in so much of the spicy aoli sauce that it’s hard to taste anything else. The horizon roll was essentially a shrimp tempura roll served with a curry mayo sauce and«drizzled» with soy honey. The roll was stacked rather than laid out across the plate, making each piece of sushi stick together. Trying to grab one piece was near impossible since they clumped together into one, mushy lump of rice. The majority of my plate was filled with a massive puddle of the curry mayo and honey… so much of it I needed about 20 more of the horizon rolls to sop up what was on my plate. The mushrooms were stuffed with crab salad, avocado and jalapenos, fried, and in a shallow bowl atop another puddle of overly sweet sauce. The flavor of the mushrooms were okay, nothing special really. It was hard to taste any flavors other than the sweet sauce seeing as the mushrooms had soaked up a lot of the sauce they were placed on top of. Not impressed, Osake. Guess I should have asked for the bowl of sauce on the side so I could actually taste the sushi. I wish that I could rave about this place like everyone else seems to, but it just didn’t do it for me. The prices are ridiculous and the service was pretty awful as well. I don’t think I’ll be going back to Osake next time I have a hankering for some good sushi. Another reviewer mentioned Kyoto for great sushi, and I couldn’t agree more! That place is reasonably priced and delivers with authentic flavor and freshness. Thankfully Sonoma County does not lack in great sushi restaurants to dine at, but this ain’t one of them.

Good sushi, very fresh with beautiful presentation. Dragon Roll and shrimp tacos are dishes to try, along with the Dynamite Roll. Nice ambience, wait staff was friendly & attentive.

Osake is owned by a Chinese man who knows that Japanese food sells. Catering to westerners — the food is both inauthentic and expensive; that’s why there are few if any, Asian patrons. Having eaten there twice, I now understand that Gary over charges his caucasian clientele for mediocre food that he touts as Japanese. Meanwhile, we Asians also have to pay a dear sum for food that has no taste, is too sweet or salty and is priced expensively for lunch. Suggestion? Check out Kyoto Restaurant in Rohnert Park and you’ll notice the difference in the quality of food, taste and price for the real deal. You won’t be disappointed!

This place is pretty consistent and has a really creative menu. The owner, Gary Chu, does a great job at creating fun rolls that anyone will like! Not to mention their other dishes are delicious as well. As many other people have said, the martini prawns are a must and the asparagus wrapped in steak is another can’t miss! Sushi, as always, is more on the pricey side but it seems that Osake is pretty fair when it comes to that. Great, if not best, Japanese restaurant in SR.
