I can’t believe I’ve never been to this spot, and it’s been here since the 70’s! All the great reviews in Unilocal brought me in and I’m glad I came. I got the French dip and my friend got the turkey dip. We ended up splitting both. Not to mention, the sweet potato fries, we’re amazing. I can’t wait to try this place for breakfast(which they serve all day). The owner is super nice, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I’ll definitely tell my friends about this gem and come back many times. Thank you!

Very solid deli tuna melt. I liked that the tuna salad was chunky and perhaps even a bit fishier than the norm. The side salad for $ 1.50 is a steal for the size and comes with a lot of random beans to help fill it out. I’ll try a club sandwich next.

Wow, this place is awesome. I ordered the eggs benedict and substituted out the hash browns for the corn beef hash and it was all to die for! Loved it! Will definitely be coming back here over, and over, and over again. Well done Mac’s!

Great classic deli! Nothing fancy, just good quality sandwiches. Service was quick and polite and the price was pretty reasonable. Their sandwiches are pretty big, so if you are looking for a light lunch you may want to share with a friend. But a solid lunch spot all around.

I am always on the lookout for a good Kosher deli in CA. This is not one. If you are from NY or Chicago, you will be very disappointed. I ordered a corned beef on rye. The waitress asked me if I wanted cheese on it. Strike One. It arrived. Very meager portion. Strike 2. Tasted like rubber. Strike 3. The rye bread was more like Wonder Bread with some seeds in it. Strike 4. My quest for authentic Jewish deli continues…

This is a great local gem, I recently began working in the downtown area and have been finding new places. This has been one of my favorites. The turkey noodle soup is perfect for rainy days. The noodles are homemade and amazing. Everyone there always has a smile on their face, it is truly a fantastic place all around.

I love this place! I love that they serve breakfast all day. They are usually really busy in the morning and early afternoon, but any wait is worth it in my opinion. Their sandwiches are all kosher and really delicious. Their beef tongue and chicken liver sandwich is one of my favorites. I also love all of their breakfast options as well. Omelettes are big and stuffed with anything you would want. Their hash browns are also homemade and HUGE(fills half the plate)! If you are like Leslie Knope and love breakfast for every meal, then check this place out! Servers are very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Overall, this is a great place to have a meal any time of the day!

I absolutely love Mac’s. I’ve been going here for over a decade and am never disappointed by the food or friendly staff. If you’re feeling like a sandwich, try out Mac’s because they have dozens of choices. The family that owns the place is adorable. Expect to get a hug upon arrival. Being a local, I have my breakfast place, my lunch place, and my dinner place. Mac’s is my lunch place & I hope it turns into yours too.

I have lived in Santa Rosa for 13 years, and never knew about Mac’s Deli. What the heck? I visited this past week with a work friend who loves the place. Now I do too! It is located on 4th Street, and it would be easy to miss if you weren’t looking for it. Once inside, it is really spacious, with windows facing 4th Street and along the back wall as well. No loud music, and it was very easy to talk to my friend. April was our server, and she was a gem. So funny, attentive, super fast and efficient service. She was a highlight of our visit! I ordered a pastrami sandwich on rye bread($ 6.95). It came with a side of potato salad, cole slaw or fries. Should have gone with the fries, but was trying to be good! The sandwich was piled high with tender pastrami, not fatty at all and excellent flavor. The rye bread was soft and yummy. I put some delicious mustard on it — a jar of Beaver Brand dark mustard, which was on our table — it was the best ever. The sandwich was so big that I brought half home for later, but for most people, you could eat the whole thing at once. The pickle spear was crunchy, crisp with awesome flavor. I found the cole slaw to be so-so. It was creamy, but a bit bland, without much flavor. Would not order it again. For dessert, we shared vanilla ice cream, which was perfect. So 2 sandwiches and ice cream for around $ 25(my friend had a pastrami sandwich with cheese and chicken liver spread on it — a bit more expensive). Not bad. Overall, I am so happy to have discovered Mac’s Deli, even though I was late to the game. Cannot wait to go back.

Unilocaled Deli’s and found this place that has been here for many many many years — looks like a place my grandmother used to take us back in the 1970s and hasn’t changed — LOVEIT. Some call it Retro — this is the here and now for Mac’s employees and customers. This is on the Opposite side of where everything is on 4th Street downtown Santa Rosa. I honestly would not have seen it if I wasn’t looking for the address. It looks like an old bookstore on the outside in my humble opinion. Tough to find but worth it. I picked up 2 Pastrami Reuben’s, 2 coleslaw, and a large French Fry to go. The ladies were friendly and pleasant. The Reuben’s were out of this world delicious. Good tasty coleslaw and hot crispy French Fries — and you get plenty of them. All for about 20 bucks — basically a great deal in this part of the woods!

Really great spot for classic diner food that is also quite yummy. This place is a downtown SR classic. I always order the veggie burger. Sometimes I get a side of fries(super yummy fries) or a side salad(large and nice quality) or a side of fruit. If you are vegetarian, it’s a great veggie burger. I also enjoy the staff. They are very friendly and will remember you if you come often enough. I also enjoy the booth seating. Another cool feature is they have a select location exclusively for takeout food. So if you pickup takeout you don’t have to wait alongside patrons dining in. As a result, takeout is very quick. Prices are decent, especially based on the large portions that can even sometimes be shared. Also a cool spot to have breakfast at any time during the day. Craving eggs for lunch? No problem. Lastly, this spot is always busy(and still quick) and many regular business people come here for lunch. This is a spot that I enjoy visiting when I’m in the mood for a sit down lunch with classic diner food. Yummm!

Vast menu. Seating area is huge, but feels cafeteria like, just without the noise and people. We ordered the pastrami Reuben and the classic Reuben. The pastrami and corned beef were super chewy. I didnt get the oohh and ahh of the fall apart and melt in your mouth experience I was hoping for. The rye bread phenomenal along with their thousand island dressing. It’s worth another shot at something else on the menu. Good news breakfast served till 30 minutes before closing!

When their hash potatoes and fried eggs arrive at your table, the warm aroma of bacon envelops the diner lucky enough to have ordered this gift from the kitchen. I imagine they are well versed in all items on their menu but honestly I’ve only had this one dish. Comes with a fresh fruit cup to boot. Tip: like olives? Walk across the street from Macs to Grateful Bagel and get the super olive for later.

This place was just fine for what we were after. We wanted sandwiches to take to the park, and that’s what we got. We had five sandwiches to order, which seemed rather complicated for the staff. But it was all correct and came out in about 15 minutes. We ordered a menagerie of roast beef and lox and veggie and turkey, as well as a few sides. The good: solid sammies, pickles on the side. The bad: if you’re in a hurry, call ahead.

Most delicious beef tongue sandwich I have had! The bread was so yummy and soft and the tongue was very delicate. I can’t belive I have been missing out on this all these years :)

I kind of expect a lot out of a kosher deli. I LOVE pastrami and corned beef. They seem to make it in house, or have someone custom make it for them. So that’s a plus, but that’s sort where the good stuff stops. Firstly, we were navigated through this diner style maze of tiny to medium sized tables to a booth, since there would be three of us. The waitress was decently attentive, but kind of always seemed like she was rushing us. I know it was a weekday, but both my friend and I weren’t on a time schedule and we were waiting for our friend who was. When we ordered our drinks while waiting for a +1, my friend additionally ordered a water. Our drinks came, less the water. My friend patiently, politely asked again for water and the waitress quipped«Well, I only have two hands … it’s coming!». Um, yeah. Okay. Couldn’t say that a little more politely? As crowded as the restaurant was, I was thankful we didn’t have to raise our voices too loud. There was a lot of «What? Can you repeat that?» though. My friend got a roast beef sandwich plain with mayo on rye. Her companion got, well, I wasn’t sure at first. You see, the ordering system is so, well, freaking asinine/overcomplicated, that even when she was ordering I couldn’t figure out what was going on. «I’ll have a turkey sandwich, um that’s number …» «No, I think you want this number … that’s the other turkey sandwich with this.» «Um, okay, are you sure? Okay, I guess I’ll have that turkey sandwich number …» «Oh, wait, we changed the menu, let me double check …» This continues till they figure which turkey sandwich it was. What the freakin’ fudgesicle!!! I simply looked at her and said«I want a Ruben with corned beef» See, some places, I know weird, serve a Ruben with pastrami. «Yeah, that’s what we serve on it» Like duh dummy, what planet did you come from? «Do you want fries with that?» «Sure.» I say flatly thinking about the dizzying amount of numbers and choices on the menu. They do have about 5 deli salads you could have, but she neglected to mention any of those. And I was STARVING … this was too complicated for a deli. It should be: here are your meat choices, here are you bread choices, toppings? Okay, here are your side choices. Not every choice numerically confusingly put on a menu. One number even has a pastrami, beer, and side. Wait, or was that a corned beef, beer, and side? Everyone liked their sandwiches. I was apparently, the only one who got a side. I was hungry enough to eat my whole sandwich but it was so greasy I kept using my one napkin so the grease wouldn’t get on my face, that my napkin actually had spots that were see through. So I only ate half. I think I would ask for it toasted, not griddle fried next time. I’m sorry, that’s just too much grease for me. The fries were good, sort of an in-between thick cut steak fries and thin cut. A note on the rye bread, it was like slightly denser white bread. It didn’t taste like rye at all. The meat was really good though. I was not disappointed with my corned beef. I just like a bit more seasoning on it is all. The thousand island dressing was so gloopy, that if there was delicate seasoning it would have been overwhelmed. My girlfriend who got just the roast beef, the roast beef was beautifully thin shaved, bright pink, and piled high. Looked wonderful and she said it was the best roast beef she’d had in a long time. And as for the turkey sandwich? It turned out to be a turkey with a darker meat underneath, which at the time I thought was roast beef but it was a different color than the roast beef my other friend got. So truthfully I don’t know what meat it was. And she got cheese on it. She seemed to enjoy it a lot, but this is a place she frequents all the time, so I’m sure it’s already her favorite. Needless to say, maybe I ordered the wrong thing for my taste. For the price and the service not particularly making up for the food, I’m not sure I’ll be back again. I hold a high standard for my sandwiches, guess I’ll just have to go to my standard favs in San Francisco.
