The following review has everything to do with the service. Food and atmosphere were generally fine. Our server went out of her way to be rude. It amazes me that someone, who’s livelihood requires tips, would engage patrons with such a ridiculous attitude. I politely went up to her to ask her to add another water order because we though she didn’t hear my girlfriend ask for one. Before I could finish she interrupted me and claimed that she heard her and had no problem hearing. She then came to our table and let us know that she was not a bad person and would never bring water to a table without considering bringing water for the lady. She made herself out to be the victim. Apparently my, «excuse me, can you please add another water…» Was an attack on her character. No apology. To make things worse, she and another server huddled up and we’re talking about us in an obvious way standing 7ft away from us. For a woman who is probably in her late 40’s or early 50’s I would expect a different way of handling the situation.

My friend and I went there last night and the bouncer was really unpleasant and rude for no reason. He was giving me a hard time for not looking at him in the eyes. He wouldn’t let a woman in bc she turned too fast and bumped into a chair. He seriously needed to get off his high horse. The bar wasn’t busy at all for a Friday night and I think he’s the reason for it. We left after one drink bc the vibe was weird after that encounter. In response to Rick Tavern’s response: your apology is very condescending. Instead of making excuses for your poor service, make changes to better your business. I understand there’s protocol to follow to maintain your liquor license and be in good keeping with SMPD, but your staff doesn’t need to be rude about it.

I don’t mind this bar, it’s nothing fancy but the staff are friendly and the drinks are cold! I’d never go during a game though cause that place gets packed! but I def enjoy stopping in for a drink! in response to ‘Karen b’ and her awful review I call massive bullshit and totally stand by the owners/managers comment! even I know what questions people are allowed to ask when it comes to service dogs and I don’t have one! ! I have actually brought my non service dog here and sat on the patio. both times a staff member came over with a bowl of water without me even having to ask. as I mentioned befor this place gets packed– and when it does its def is not a place to bring a dog, service or otherwise !

SHAMEONYOURICKS! Negative 100 stars for the embarrassment you caused me for my handicap! Went here the other night with my service dog and the treatment towards me and my disability was appalling and they should feel ashamed of themselves and reported. First 2 different bouncers tried to not let me in with my dog but after I repeatedly tried to tell them he was a service dog and showed documentation, then they started hounding me on why I needed a service dog and what service he provided. I tried to explain that my medical history is NONEOFTHEIRBUSINESS and it’s illegal for them to ask me. After arguing with them a manager came over and told me it was fine. Heated in the moment I got a drink and wrote on my receipt«this place was discriminating towards me and didn’t feel they deserved my $ 2 tip for my drink.» 5 minutes later that same manager came running over to me and told me that I WAS being discriminatory(which makes zero sense) and I can’t call them discriminating and kicked me out! WTF?! I get there are people that abuse the use of «service animals» but if I have documentation then NO questions should be asked. My dog is obviously very well behaved, barely even noticeable and we were standing a foot from the patio NOT that any of that should matter! SHAMEONYOURICKS. LEARNTHELAWSOFTHEADA! And don’t make people with handicaps feel alienated and ashamed for their disability! I have no problems reporting you!

chill place narrow and long, lots of TV’s all over for watching the games the drinks were decent and reasonably priced but service was sooo sooo slow, also the bathrooms are so tiny and grimm be prepared to be hit by the door if you’re standing to wash your hands but still will try to give them another try hopefully they can at least improve their service

This sports bar is more than expected. From the pics, here on Unilocal,it looks a little small and dingy. However, it’s quite large; the bar is narrow but long. So there’s plenty of seating here, including tables and at the bar. We went here to watch a basketball game and they have plenty of tv’s that would allow you to watch whatever sporting event you’re trying to watch. The waitress was attentive, nice, and honest about the menu and what we should order. Now, the drinks are quite overpriced but they were good. The food was mediocre. One of my friends got the kale salad & did not enjoy it at all. The brussels sprouts were decent but you could tell they used too much oil. The burger and chicken sandwich were both tasty. It’s kind of weird that fries don’t come with the sandwiches/burgers here, so you have to order them separately. Our main problem with this place was when the bill came and it was almost $ 90 for 2 people. At A Bar. This was bar food and not so special drinks and it was expensive. I just felt like if I’m going to pay that much, I should go somewhere where the food is worth it. The worst, but funny, part about this place was that my friend was charged $ 2 for ice. She ordered a drink on the rocks and they actually charged her for the ice. LMBO. After laughing about it with the waitress, she took off the charge but we were really confused as to why any place would charge for ice in your drink. Needless to say, I would try another place before heading back here. Or I’d only go during happy hour.

This place is far from welcoming. At 1:40am they clearly indicate that they want you out asap, by giving you the«wheels rolling» hand signal and hovering over your table watching you finish your drink. So if you want to go to a bar and actually enjoy your beverage, then choose elsewhere.

Cool little spot in the middle of the Main Street night scene. Classic sports bar with mutiple tvs and various games on simultaneously. Good for sports fans and girls looking to meet sports fans: Rick’s is super low key. Put on your favorite player’s jersey and you’re good to go. Ricks has typical bar food and a full bar!

When people ask me what my favorite bar is, I have no hesitation when I answer Rick’s Tavern on Main Street in Santa Monica. I’m the type of person who loves swanky rooftop bars and dance floors, and despises dive bars. Yet for some reason, the small, brightly-lit, casual neighborhood pub that is Rick’s gets me every single time. Rick’s has a great selection of beers on draft with reasonable prices. It’s conveniently located next to all the other bars on Main Street — across the street from Areal, close to Ashland Hill and Library Bar, walking distance to the Victorian, Finn McCool’s, O’Brien’s, Pink Elephant and Circle Bar. I love Rick’s because of the people. The brightly-lit room inspires people to actually look at and talk to each other. I’ve met friends and dates here, because not only is everyone generally pretty friendly, but it’s not so loud that you can’t actually hold a conversation. The bartenders are also friendly and are the kind of person who will have a drink or shot with you while chatting. Apparently they also have pretty good pub food, but I’m always there too late/preoccupied with drinking to order any.

We came here to meat a friend while we were visiting from all over really. He referred us here so the boys could watch the football games. I tasted and enjoyed several beers and appetizers. This is a nice sports bar like tavern with your standard and local beers on top. There’s a ton of TV’s everywhere with a variety of games always playing. The food is like high-class pub food — definitely not greasy and super fresh. I enjoyed everything I ate, which was almost everything. Will return when I’m down south. it’s a nice $ 5 über or a long walk from Venice or Santa Monica Pier.

Used to be a regular prior to the full remodel and removal of all the stuff on the walls that gave the place character. The last time I went, I was sitting on the seats facing the street having a beer & food with a girlfriend of mine when a server came over to tell us that the owner of the place was going to need us to move because he had friends coming to watch a game. The server said she could just move our stuff to the back, no problem. Really? Our seats weren’t reserved, but I guess its that kind of place. Didn’t offer to cover our beers or burgers for the inconvenience. He was also fine with us just leaving. Zero customer service & he couple of lost longtime patrons. He didn’t care. The server told us he owns Circle bar too. No need to go back, the menu isn’t great. The music is obnoxious & the place lost its charm years ago.

A Solid Bar in Santa Monica, but nothing special. Bar gets pretty crowded so expect a little wait for the bartenders to get your order. Nothing too Special to take this place beyond being an average spot on Main, but it definitely isnt a bad spot either. Check it out if you’re near or if some other spots have lines to get in.

It was all good for a few patrons to eat some tacos on the front patio until some other guy in an Army PT beanie came out and said they needed to move down. One of the patrons said«we are making this place more popular don’t worry about it» and guy with the beanie grabbed up a bunch of stuff and threw it in the trash and said get out of here. If you enjoy butthurt dudes that cock block eating tacos and throws shit, in the trash, come on down and enjoy your time.

GREATFOOD&GREATSERVICE! Dani was our waitress and I recommend requesting her ;) I got the grilled cheese after 10 weeks of dieting and fell into my own personal heaven of grease and cheese! My BF got the chicken avocado on brioche which was super juicy and flavorful(highly recommend). We ordered the nachos which came with a lot of cilantro on top, since I’m allergic to cilantro I didn’t know and politely asked dani if we could get a new one without it. The new order was out within minutes and delicious as well! Great little bar to watch football, enjoy some comfort food, and have a drink :)

Terrible experience. Bad staff. The bartenders are the worst. They got our drinks wrong and tried to overcharge us. When we said it“s wrong they said get the fuck out of here. Horrible experience. Don’t ever come here.

This place was ok. Maybe I didn’t stay around long enough to fully experience it, but it’s just a simple sports bar. Location is great, and it looked like they had a nice back patio(not many people were on there when I went). My friends celebrated their birthday last weekend, and we were told to all meet at Rick’s around 9:30/10pm on Saturday. When we got there, the place definitely had a good group of people, but it’s extremely narrow between the bar and the entrance. For a birthday party location, I would rate this as a 3(which is what I’m giving them) but I’m sure when there’s a big game on or grabbing a bite to eat it might be better. Just not my cup of tea.

It’s time for the owner to take a look at these Unilocal reviews! Almost every single review with a poor star rating is directly related to the service, or should I say the lack there of. Way too many reviews are addressing the rude and unprofessional nature of the staff here… The staff here is incredibly abrupt and about as engaging as a goldfish. Two of my favorite quotes, one from a bartender and one from a male who appeared to be both security and/or a bar back were, «I’ll close you out when I’m not busy», and, «do you have a problem with that?». I’m dumbfounded by the lack of respect and regard for common courtesy here. It seems like a decent place to watch a game with 5 TVs and a full service bar, but personally, I’d rather be in a place where the staff is friendly and welcoming versus pretentious and rude. I wouldn’t recommend this location to tourists or anyone who hasn’t been here before. The bar stools get yanked from the bar to fill tables with large groups, the staff is lacking in both professionalism as well as politeness, and the drinks are made with about 75% of the alcohol typically recommended per drink(this is after watching about 30 drink pours). One server came back with a beer and a complaint from a patron who said the beer tasted flat. The bartender replied by taking a straw and stirring the beer aggressively and sending it back out when a small amount of foam appeared instead of checking the tap it came from. I also listened to her tell people ordering from the bar she was leaving her shift so they’d close out(and tip her) when it took her about another hour and a half of making drinks before she seemed to start her side work. The tipping on the cake was listening to staff members gossip and complain about other(very nearby) staff members. Simply incredible. Poor form and I’ll never buy anything here again.

This is a pretty much your regular Irish pub. What I like about it is the karaōke with Bobby on Sunday nights. Bobby is a great karaōke host and an awesome singer himself. The crowd is fun and you’re not expected to be a good singer. In fact, terrible vocals get lots of cheering! It’s a fun Sunday night hangout spot.

Had a really good time and experience from this tavern. The lovely female bartender and the ginger as I called him, were very friendly fast and kind ! We came on a Monday night and the place filled up pretty quick around 10. They didn’t forget about us though. We had a great time for ladies night !

We came here the other night for a buddy’s get together. Here’s a quick run down of my feelings about this place: — Laidback atmosphere. — Mixed drinks were either ok or had to be fixed. — The beer was on target. — I had to explain what a Dark and Stormy was(not a big deal). However, after explaining what was in it, only two ingredients stuck out and that’s all the waitress remembered. — We had to have a couple of the drinks mixed since they were either lacking an ingredient or not mixed correctly. — It was almost like they make the mixed drinks and don’t taste them. — The french fries were just ordered as something to munch on, but they were damn good. They tasted freshly cut kind of like In-N-Outs. Yes, I said that. — Service was average I suppose. This place is pretty cool to stop at for a while. Anything longer would require more food for me as I wouldn’t like to get my mixed drinks here if I have to constantly have them fixed. If I’m here purely for beer, then this place is no problem to be at for a game(at least for me). My group was not too thrilled with the place and only got one round of drinks and then went to another bar down the block. Maybe others will have better luck with this place.

Came here for Sunday Funday with a few friends. The place is casual. Bartenders are pretty cool and they have a pretty cool selection of beers and liquors. it’s a small bar, with bar seating and a few tables. We had an order of the nachos… very tasty(ask for extra cheese, trust me, you’ll need it).

So this one time my cousin Watler… Kidding. But seriously one time I went and my friend’s friend ordered nachos and put them on the table. I was drunk so they tasted delicious. Then that friend’s friend had a friend who ordered another set of nachos and put them at our table. I almost lost it. Still drunk. Nachos also delicious the second time around. Anecdote aside — Rick’s is down-to-earth, good drinks, easy atmosphere, a narrow bar, with cool bartenders, and karaōke that is just really bad singing(when is it not?). If you want to have fun but a more relaxed fun without a lot of LA pretentiousness, come here. You’ll like it.

This is one of the smaller bars on Main Street in Santa Monica, and it’s a lot more underrated than some others like Circle Bar, Barcopa, or The Victorian in my opinion. I like that there’s a good beer selection at Rick’s that ranges from draughts, bottles, domestic, and imported. I’ve tried some cocktails here, and I’ve never been disappointed. I wouldn’t stay at Rick’s all night though. With so many other bars on Main Street, this would just be a stop in the night for me to get one or two drinks. I also like that it isn’t super crowded most of the time. Space and room to breathe? In Main Street bars? Two criteria that are good enough for me.

Stop 2 on our Santa Monica Barcycle Crawl. This place isn’t new and/or hip, but the dark wood interior was clean and spacious. When our group poured into the place the bartenders got our drink and food orders ready in a timely manner and I enjoyed a pint and some wings(spicy!) and fries crispy!). Prices were also decent(I think we got some special deals for being a part of the Barcycle group, but now positive). Again, not anything really distinguishing about this place; it’s the sort of place you’d slip into if you happened to be right next to it while strolling on Main St and wanted a drink. It wouldn’t be a destination for me. STEPHJUDGEMENT: Spacious oldish bar with decent food and drinks.

Pretty good sports bar in general. Good TV selection, the service is pretty good and I really love their food. Try their chicken cobb salad, it’s really fresh and great. I also love their wings. They are just perfect. A touch spicy, wet and plenty of meat on them. I love the ranch sauce they offer too. Good all around place!
