Esmail and his family are true old world craftsmen. Decades of experience, incredible attention to detail and dedicated to giving you the best experience possible. They have a selection of fine fabrics for every taste and they suit they made me was beautiful. I’m short with odd proportions but it fit me perfectly. Best I ever looked.

So happy to support a small, local family business. Service was great. I brought in some articles of clothing for mending. I was especially impressed by the repairs on a cardigan with a hole in it, a cashmere sweater with loose threads, and a lace shirt with lose threads. The repairs are literally invisible! My only regret is that I didn’t take before and after photos! The bill for 5 items was $ 100– very reasonable! If I ever need repairs or tailoring in the future, I would definitely come back here.

Wonderful place. The young man makes custom jeans. The owner is brilliant. This is the perfect example of a family owned business. I will be back. My wife will be back.

Family owned and run, the sweetest, most lovely guys. I came in with a last-minute dress disaster(and I have zero seamstress skills) they stayed in the store late just to quickly sew up my straps. They gave me tape to hold me in place and were just the nicest, most heartwarming, professionals. A true gem. They’ll help ladies too :)

Believe it or not, I searched high and low to find a tailor who could make button holes in Los Angeles! Quite a challenge! Called many tailors and places that do alterations, until someone said to try a shirt maker, which was also a dying art in Los Angeles. I found this place. Esmail and his son are so helpful! I bought a summer dress that had buttons holes only for the top part of the dress, but the skirt part was made to just hang open. I wanted to have buttons that go all the way down the summer dress. Esmail’s price per button hole was very reasonable and the job was excellent, well worth driving cross town for.

250 $ to alter a reversible adidas jacket, they did a good job but totally not worth the price. I also had an issue when they had a pair of my pants for a week, only for me to come in to pick them up and have them tell me they couldn’t alter it. Pretty frustrating. Both father and son seem out of the loop, and the level of unprofessionalism was surprising at an establishment with this high of a reputation. I’ll be bringing my clothes elsewhere, caveat emptor.

I have a beautiful leather skirt, but unfortunately the seams on the pockets started ripping! :(I literally noticed this as I was walking back to my car on Montana street. I quickly Unilocaled alterations and Montalvo was one block away, so I ran over and asked what could be done. Ismail said he could fix it and the next day and $ 15 later, it was done! Unfortunately, it happened again(not to the same area he worked on, but a different part), so I brought it back and this time he said he would fix it again and didn’t even charge me! It’s nice because you walk in and he immediately remembers who you are and what your item was — no number or tag necessary. Ismail is very personal and skilled — we need more places like this :).

My husband always prefers the unique & individual, including clothing. God knows, we all see the same thing everywhere. He wants to make a personal statement & look his best, and Montalvo’s on Montana makes it happen. Such a wide variety of styles, beautiful fabrics and quality workmanship, limited only by one’s imagination. Yikes. I have to try to keep him away from there, because he could drop a bundle getting his ideal jacket, vest, or custom shirts made. I have to admit, they last longer, look and feel much better, & even my cleaners’ are in love with them! lol I’d recommend their work to anyone. Even just once, go in & talk to Esmail & see what it feels like to participate in creating your vision of the perfect item of clothing. The satisfaction will last a very long time.

Been coming here for years for dress shirts. Good, but expensive.

Sewing and alterations doesn’t do the place credit, but it will have to do. I used to go to the original Montalvo on Montana, which was(appropriately enough) on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. I just moved to NoCal. and haven’t been to new Beverly Hills location, but didn’t want to hesitate to give this place a glowing review, since I’m sure they maintain the same high standards as at the original location. I have unusually broad shoulders for a woman of my height. You may recall when the fashion in womens suits was to have a fairly form fitting jacket. I would have to buy a size 12 or 14 to fit my shoulders, when the rest of me was a size 6 or 8. You can imagine how significant the tailoring was that was required — not just because of taking it in so much, but also because the jackets had darts, etc., so lot of pieces to be taken in. The alterations were not cheap, but WOW did I look great in those jackets, which were practically custom done by the time they were finished with them. And if any of your fine knits have been attacked by moths, they also do a fantastic job with French Weave /Invisible Weave repairs. One final comment. Although I’ve brought a lot of things in over the years, I didn’t go with great frequency. Once, I went after not having been there for 6 – 8 months, and I was shocked when Irene looked up and said«Hi Erica» — How could she have remembered me among the many clients they have, I don’t know. But I *do* appreciate the effort!
