My family had been long time fans of koo koo roo since 1988. Their chicken is by far the best take out pollo I’ve ever had. They also had a cold buckwheat kasha salad which was to die for! Too bad I can’t find the copycat recipe online anywhere… Not sure why this chain failed as it was favored by many celebrities too which I had numerous run ins with. Please come back Koo Koo Roo!

RIP Koo Koo Roo You were dear to me. Delicious skinless chicken, roasted garlic potatoes and cucumber salad. WHY did you leave me? You were loved.

I am sooo sad KooKooRoo is closed. They really did have good chicken and really great green beans all for a really reasonable price. Where to go instead in Santa Monica? :-(BTW, California Chicken Café is more expensive and they don’t have green beans!

ASOFJUNE2014 — KOOKOOROO is no longer at this address. It’s being converted into a FUDDRUCKERS. Too many changes maybe didn’t help it and least of all the Veggie Grill & Poquito Mas restaurants, also didn’t help.

I love their original chicken. That red sauce is great. Can’t believe this is the only restaurant left. When in santa monica I make sure to stop by. Hope they dont close this one

Excelente servicio y sabor, la persona que nos tomó el pedido, de hecho nos hizo darnos cuenta de lo conveniente que podría resultar nuestro pedido haciéndolo de otra forma. Muy amable. Totalmente recomendable!

Just grabbed some take out from this location. Ordered the BLT Roo Burger, got home to find no bacon. So paid the extra $ 2 and got a regular burger. This must be one of the reasons why they are down to only one location from the multiples a few years ago. Prices on the chicken seem way out compared to similar restaurants. Think this will be the last time I’ll be going to KKR.

Update June 15, 2014: Closed to be a Fuddruckers, as the other poster said. Probably my best choices of food in any one place in the area, but darn expensive. When I want the best and have a $ 20 bill that I won’t miss, I go there. When I want almost the best(and the quickest) but the cheapest I go to Taco Bell. This is also the only place I know to get turkey and stuffing any time. And rice crispy treats. Pumpkin pie too, although you can get that elsewhere I’m sure. BBQ chicken salad! Used to pay more for extra chicken, but it can be too much. Best part: Never crowded, even during dinner time.

Last KKR in Cali. Turkey sandwich is the best. I make the drive from DTLA. 5 Stars!

Noooooooooo please dont close! I love Koo Koo Roo. This is the last location in LA, and the food is still great and very reasonably priced. This is one of the only places in LA I can get a decent $ 10 dinner. Staff is friendly, food is great for the price. I don’t understand why this company is going under. I’ll be sad when this location closes and I cant eat here anymore. Until then Im gonna make it point to stop in as much as possible. You should too!

Almost all the other Koo Koo Roo locations are now closed, but the one on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica still stands(as of the time I am writing this review on Jan. 6, 2014). I used to visit Koo Koo Roo(in Marina Del Rey) as a kid and have always loved their rotisserie chicken and their standard sides(mac n cheese, veggies, mashed potatoes, etc). This time, I decided to just order two sides for old times’ sake — I got a side of mac n cheese and a side of scalloped potatoes. They were both fresh and inexpensive — just $ 2 per side! I may have to visit again in the future. It’s a throwback to my childhood. Note that their weekend hours are odd — they open at 11:45am.

Koo Koo Roo, you’re alive! After a 10+ year hiatus, I find myself stumbling back into this once bustling establishment. It was a difficult decision, as CCC is so close by, but my curiosity bested the decision. The YAY’s: — WOW the menu! It’s definitely different than a decade ago, offering additional delights such as meatball subs and the like. — The steamed veggies are unseasoned. Great for people who, like me, prefer their broccoli naked and steamy. Heh. — Baked yams. Ohhh my. My only comment is that CCC a few doors down does not offer this … and I happen to LOVECCC. And baked yams. — Rotisserie chicken WITH skin, please. Deliciously crispy and droolworthingly seasoned. Hello. — My fiancé LOVES their turkey plate with mashed potatoes. My favorite part of his meal is the chunky cranberry sauce, which happens to go purrfect with my chickie. — He also claims their cheesecake can aptly soothe a desperate sweet tooth … The MEH’s: — Their butternut squash — unseasoned btw — is seasonal only. *sniffle* — Parking can be hectic, but WTH — it’s Santa Monica where parking is always an adventure. We always score free parking in the back, but only because we go to Koo at weird times when normal people do not eat(weekend at 3ish) — Their side dish area looks pretty but pitiful. What happened to the overflowing containers of mac n cheese and the like?! Now there sits a few bowls that seem to empty out immediately after a simple order of a pint of steamed broccoli. :/ My love for CCC runs deep, but Koo Koo Roo stiffs them up in good competition. I confess, they are stealing my biz …

I came across this Koo Koo Roo the other day, and was super excited to find it. Most of the local Koo Koo Roos have shut down, and apparently there are only a few left in the LA area. When I looked through the menu, they had some new items that piqued my interest. They now had turkey meatballs! They looked really good, and I was super excited to try them. I ordered a turkey meatball sandwich combo with sides of garlic potatoes and macaroni and cheese. The sandwich was delicious! The meatballs were giant, and came on a very tasty roll to make a great sandwich. I have always liked the potatoes and mac & cheese at Koo Koo Roo, and they were just as good as always. I did notice that they did not have as many sides available as when Koo Koo Roo was a larger chain. However, they seemed to have more main entrees and sandwich items to choose from. They also still had my favorite sides, which I was thankful for. In addition to the food, I like that Koo Koo Roo is a very comfortable place to hang out and eat. It is nicer than your typical fast food restaurant, and has large TVs and free WiFi. I have always liked Koo Koo Roo, and I am happy that there are still a few locations still open. It is fast food that is healthy, tasty, and reasonably priced. I will be back for sure!

I eat here a lot because it’s near my office. Better yet they deliver at lunch time and dinner time for about $ 3. I wish I had known this sooner! LOL I like their rotisserie chicken, chicken noodle soup, tomato salad, green beans, and yams. They used to have hot wings and scalloped potatoes, but changed their menu. Sad face. Good, decent food, nothing fancy. A bit like El Pollo Loco in food and slightly less than California Chicken Café in menu, but good seating like CCC.

I came here this month, for my free birthday entrée! If you sign up for their e-club thing, you get a free entrée for your birthday with the purchase of another! This was my first time visiting Koo Koo Roo. From the review, it seems that people are comparing this place to Boston Market. When I came here, I got their three piece dark meat chicken with one side. The display of their sides is not very appealing. The display is bigger than the amount of sides they offer, so when you look into the case, there are just six or so bowls spread out with sides in it. The 3pc chicken came with two thighs and one leg. There was some kind of sauce on it, but I wasn’t sure if I liked the sauce or not. The chicken here is different, but I still don’t know if it’s a good different or a bad different. I could tell you though that the chicken was not dry. The side of macaroni and cheese was like the typical ones you’d get. and the stuffing I tried was okay too. I would not be opposed to eating here if I were in the area and someone wanted to go here.

Good food, good prices and friendly employees. Problem is that they are never open during posted business hours. Just went there at 9:20 p.m. last Saturday and both their website AND the business hours posted on their door said they are open until 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Were they open? No. This is right after they were«closed» at 8:45p.m. on a weekday even though the posted sign said they were open until 9:00 p.m. Fool me once, and shame on you. Fool me twice? You just lost my business.

after two days worth of SaMo UCLA cafeteria food, we needed a break. this was close by AND open. so i walked the 4 blocks. i know, walking in LA… weird. the place was pretty clean. they were just about to close i think. my fault for waiting till 7p to get dinner. luckily i was able to catch them before they moved all the side items away. i got mama the classic chicken sammy and i got the spaghetti with turkey meatball. i also got us the macNcheese and stuffing. okay, i realize that it is my fault for coming so late. but, i think that if you are open for business, your food should be just as good at the end of the day as at the start. mama liked her sammy and my spaghetti was surprisingly good, the turkey meatball quite moist. however, the stuffing lost all the moisture it ever had and the mac N cheese had none of the cheesy goodness we’re accustomed to from koo koo roo. it seemed like it they had been sitting or have been reallocated from a previous service. but, that’s just what it «seemed» like. not sure. overall, it was an ok meal for all that we liked. the price was fair, the employees were nice and the place was clean.

I haven’t been to a Koo Koo Roo in agesl, so I was delighted to stumble across one last night and just had to pop in for a casual dinner. Ordered the jerk chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. Mmm… the mac and cheese had just the right amount of cheesiness to it and was nice and crispy on top. For food that’s been under a heat lamp for quite some time(I’m assuming), it sure tasted fresh! The jerk chicken sandwich had a great kick to it! I think the dressing on it was mayo-based(not positive), and I wish I would have received clarification on that — especially as I said ‘no mayo’. Hubby had the original chicken sandwich — devoured it — so it must have been good. Mash and gravy had a good flavor. Side of mushrooms was delicious! Nice and warm and seasoned just right. Bit on the pricey side for quick service — dinner for two without beverages was just over $ 20. Plusses, besides the food, are the free Wi-Fi and television that they have, in case you’re dining alone and want some entertainment. The place was virtually empty besides another party or two whilst we were there though :-/Hope this location stays open, unlike the others that shut last year!

It’s been a while since I have been to Koo Koo Roo, but decided to visit this week. I used to go to Koo Koo Roo three to four times a week, but have not been in years. I found that a lot has changed since my last visit. The interior has had an overhaul… still pretty meh… but nicer than most fast food places. The prices have gone up significantly, and I found the menu to be a little more limited than in the past. They used to have carved turkey, and I was confused whether this was still offered or not. It looked like there was a carving station, but no turkey or person carving. It seems like Koo Koo Roo is in the midst of an identity crisis. Anyway, I ordered my usual, a chicken breast and two sides of veggies and the food was pretty much the same since my last visit years ago… pretty good… nothing to write home about though. The employees working there seemed to be very attentive and friendly. Paying almost $ 10 for a piece of chicken and two sides at Koo Koo Roo is a little pricey considering I can pay the same at California Chicken Café up the street… and the food at CCC is better.
